GLOBAL MONEY WEEK

Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 11th edition of the Global Money Week, with the theme: “PLAN YOUR MONEY, PLANT YOUR FUTURE’’.

The line-up of events by the Bank commenced on Monday, March 20, 2023, with a walk from the old parade ground to the Bank’s Headquarters in Abuja.

Students from various Government Secondary Schools in Abuja were part of the walk, which ended with a tour of the Bank’s Currency Museum, a lecture on financial literacy and a Quiz on savings culture.

Banks are disobeying Supreme Court orders.

The banks say they have not received any new supply of the new naira notes.

Tinubu send message to "obedient" and others that didn't vote for him.

Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, has sent a message to people who didn’t vote for him during the February 25 general election.

Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday, told them to believe in the country.

According to the ex-Lagos state Governor, he is seeking a better Nigeria for all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.

“I ask that we work together as Nigerians for Nigeria. Those who voted for me, I ask that you continue to believe in our policies and plans for the country.

“I also ask that you reach out to your brothers and sisters who did not vote as you did. Extend to them the hand of friendship, reconciliation, and togetherness,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC was announced winner ahead of Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to the Vanguard, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said on Monday that the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes will still be used as legal tender until December 31, 2023.

Isa Abdulmumin, a spokesperson for the Central Bank of Nigeria, made the announcement in a statement, underscoring that the apex bank has instructed commercial banks to start issuing and accepting deposits of old Naira notes.

The statement says: "Deposit Money Banks operating in Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court ruling of March 3, 2023" in accordance with the "established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle" that characterizes the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and, by extension, the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as a regulator.

As a result, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) held a meeting with the Bankers' Committee and decided to let the old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes serve as legal tender alongside the new ones until December 31, 2023.
