It is with so much joy that we are announcing our next title, which is an enchanting debut by Uma Padmasola.

When we first read the manuscript, we were so captivated by her imaginative prose and storytelling that we knew we had found our next book.

Over the past year, it has been such a magical process for us to work with Uma, and we have been marvelled at each step by how beautifully she uses language, weaving together this stunning tale.

Stay tuned as we unveil this witchy, gothic, fantastical world over the coming weeks.

"Through the 116 pages of The Heart Flutters at Night, a novella from 2022, you’d want to stretch your hand out and caress Sarah ever so gently," and so begins this review, so thoughtfully woven together by Cris for TheNewsMinute as she delves into the very soul of the book.

Through the 116 pages of The Heart Flutters at Night, a novella from 2022, you’d want to stretch your hand out and caress Sarah ever so gently. Her name appears in the very first page, when she is 'caught' by a grief that comes unannounced. Mariam Henna, the author, plants Sarah unobtrusively into...

Our books are now available at The Dogears Bookshop :)

We are pleased to introduce two lovely books published by Magic Mongrel Publishers /, a relatively new imprint that's been launched by Mariam Henna/, and /. Founded in 2020, Magic Mongrel Publishers is an independent publishing house that seeks to publish novellas and collections of short-stories that explore the nuances of literary craft.

The Heart Flutters at Night follows a writer’s journey of rediscovery as Sarah travels back and forth in time, negotiating the spaces of memory and reality to piece together the story of a child whose voice had been silenced. The second book, Love in Seven Easy Steps, is a novella in prose poetry that celebrates the ways in which love charms, defies and lingers in us.

Both books are available at The Dogears Bookshop, and can be shipped worldwide. For more details, contact us here, or whatsapp 98503 98530.

We are excited to share the first review of The Heart Flutters at Night which appeared in Asian Review of Books. Many thanks to author Susan Blumberg-Kason for capturing the book in her thoughtful review and for appreciating the descriptions of place and setting.

Mariam Henna’s debut, The Heart Flutters at Night, comes with the tagline “A Campus Novella”. This campus happens to be in South India. As it opens, Sarah, in the aftermath of the breakup of a long…

When the second wave hit, we decided to pause all sales and shipping of our book. For a new and small indie publisher, having brought out our first book in Feb 2021, this meant that we could not help our book reach new readers.

We ran our first print run for 500 copies, and in the small window of sales since the release, we were able to sell 70 copies of our book. :)

For two months, we somehow floated, subsisting on small gigs and freelance work that would come our way. During this time, we also decided to reprioritize our focus (from sales, shipping and marketing) to the production of our upcoming titles.

Three days back, we opened up for sales once again, and we are truly overwhelmed with the support and generosity of our friends and family. In the span of three days, we received around 40 orders for the book, and we couldnt have asked for a better restart.

As we gently find our way back into bringing out more books, we thank all those who have continued to support us in this journey even when we didnt have a story to share.

For any of you wondering how you can support our future publications, well, you can support us by buying our first book. You can DM or whatsapp us for your orders.

On another note, we have made a conscious decision to use more sustainable packaging and reduce paper waste.

With love and gratitude,
Mariam and Abhishek

"Love in Seven Easy Steps begins as love stories must, with the meeting of two hearts. The couple are in their early forties, separated by geographical distance, and they soon find out what all lovers do — to fall in love is often easier than claiming it, or nurturing love to strength. They mean well and they are probably great for each other, but love falters, and unable to take the leap of faith, the couple must part." - Gayathri Prabhu talks about the writing of the book in a conversation with writer/journalist Cris Here.

Many thanks to Cris Here and TheNewsMinute for this feature and this insightful engagement with Love in Seven Easy Steps.
