Set aside political colors, stop seeing an activist, but see instead a mother.
Just that; a first-time mother, excited and all.
Here we have the case of Reina Mae Nasino. 11 months ago, along with two other activists, she was arrested for alleged possession of guns and explosives after a "raid" was done in their office of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan in Manila.
During her detention, she asked the Supreme Court to temporarily release her on humanitarian grounds due to being considered high-risk of contracting the coronavirus disease for she was seven months pregnant then.
The decision was slow, the baby was quicker. She gave birth during detention, to an unhealthy, underweight baby.
Consequentially, her lawyers sought for the Court to temporarily allow her to stay in a hospital with her child until she turned a year old, for rea*ons that she could breastfeed her, crucial in providing antibodies to the childβs earliest years.
Her pleas were junked. She was advised instead to give the baby to a relative that could take care of her.
To contrast, we have the case of Juan Ponce Enrile, who in August 18, 2015, was allowed to post bail in his plunder and graft charges for alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam. This court decision was based on Humanitarian grounds. This was never done before by the Supreme Court, but they created this new doctrine to save a 91-year old's(that time) wrinkly ass. In addition to that, Imelda Marcos, ex-first lady, literally a devil wearing Prada, and Patron saint of Threaders, used this same doctrineβHumanitarian Grounds bullsh*tβto post bail for 7 counts of graft charges for a multi-billion, record-breaking corruption.
As you might have recalled, a pregnant woman dreading a deadly virus used that "Humanitarian grounds" card and to no avail, failed.
In an unfortunate Friday night, the worst-case scenario happened. After hearing of the news that the baby is diagnosed with pneumonia, Nasino's lawyers filed a Very Urgent Motion for Furlough for rea*ons, "that she may be with her baby during her last days.β
But a Very Urgent Motion, wasn't able to catch up to the speeding death that came to the 3-month old life, hours later after the motion was filed.
The furlough came nonetheless, along with a tiny coffin. Too fu***ng late.
On October 13, a Tuesday morning, she was granted a 3-day furlough to attend the wake and the burial of her lifeless child. It was to begin on October 14, Wednesday, and end in Friday, the date for the burial.
The most Unfortunate of unfortunates, the baddest of bad.
But before you grit your teeth in anger and be sad in her behalf, let me just say...
"But wait, there's more."
On Wednesday, as she attended the wake and mourned, Manila City Jail Female Dormitory wrote the presiding judge for the furlough decision to request that Nasino's furlough be shortened. Let me rephrase that; they requested that her furlough be fu***ng shortened! Their rea*ons was that they lacked manpower, they don't have enough personnel to guard one handcuffed, female inmate.
They also cited the jail manual in asking that Nasino be prohibited from joining the funeral procession, and that she "shall not be allowed to stay more than 3 hours in the place where the remains of the deceased relative lie in state."
To contrast, we have Jinggoy Estrada; accused of pocketing P183.793 million in public funds after diverting his PDAF to "non-existent" and "unaccredited" non-government organization which failed to deliver the assistance to beneficiaries. After his arrest, on April 19, 2017, The Sandiganbayan granted his request for a furlough to attend his father'sβErap Estradaβ80th birthday party. So they could eat cake.
In addition to that, we also have Budots King Ramon B**g Revilla Jr., also a suspect in the pork barrel scam who allegedly pocketed P224.5 Million worth of kickbacks. Way back 2017, after his arrest, he was granted by the court to visit, numerous fu***ng times, his ailing and dying father.
Our courts have shown humanity for these allegedly multi-million plunderer sons just loving their fathers, but couldn't care less for the grief of a childless activist mother.
A bunch of politicians with plunder cases, worth up to millions, and a human rights activist who allegedly possessed hand grenades and hid it in a cardboard box just beside the bed.
Ewan ko kung napapansin niyo rin, pero I really think yung Hustisya sa Pilipinas ay pang-mayaman lang.
My deepest condolences to a mother's heart, to an innocent child, and to Justice.
May they rest in peace...
And may we be fu***ng pi**ed.
