The Badger Family | Finished Commission
Thank you, Tiffany, for asking me to create this piece for you. I had a lot of fun making it. The little baby badger is my favorite. 😁

WIP - Sleeping Fox
WIP cartoon fox drawing. Should I stick to more traditional colors for the fox—oranges and browns? Or should I do something different? Let me know in the comments.

Adobe Lily digital coaster design.
I spent some time going back into my archive of recordings and artwork, and I forgot to put this video together!
A quick tip for drawing flowers from different perspectives. Draw a circle first. Make a dot for the center. Lastly, draw the petals coming from the dot, and use the edge of the circle for the ends of your petals. If you want to draw a flower from the side, start with an oval shape instead of a circle.
Enjoy! 😁
Did you enjoy watching the video? I start by blocking out the colors for the artwork. Once that is finished, I go back in and do all the detail work. In this piece, I gave extra attention to light and shadow. It came out great. I hope you enjoyed it!
Have a great week.

Did you enjoy watching my time-lapse video of Johnson's shut-in artwork? I hope so. It was fun to create but also had some challenges.
----
The water was very intimidating to create at first. I wasn't exactly sure how to do it. But then it clicked. It all comes down to light and shadow.
- First, I worked on the shadows. The darkest areas depict rocks that the water is rushing over.
- Second, the mid-tones show the rocky areas that are completely covered by water. It also makes the river look like it's cascading and winding around this rocky terrain.
- Third are the highlights, which appear on the tops of rocks or in places where the water is rushing over rocks that are hidden underneath.

Who or what inspires you? For me, it's animals and nature. This is Ember, one of my puppies. I have two little puppies that we got from the same litter. Ember has two blue eyes, and Bacardi has one brown and one blue eye. They are so cute! 😍

A little about Ember Girl!
Ember is hyper and extremely loving. She loves pulling the fuzz off of tennis balls and knows how to get all the treats out of her Kong toy. We will have to make it more challenging for her. 😂
Do you want to see Bacardi next? Don't worry, I will have it done here soon! 😁

A series of stills I took of the solar eclipse yesterday in Bloomington. Enjoy! :)
Time lapse video of the robot artwork.
My favorite part to draw on this piece are the pine trees. They are simplified forms, but also have enough detail and shading to create depth.
To create the pine trees, you start with a triangle shape. Next, you break it into smaller shapes and add jagged edges to create branches. After that, start with your darkest color and lighten it as you move up each section. Lastly, add shading under each section and small triangle shapes from each of the other section colors plus yellow.
Have fun!

How I create digital art:👍
First, references and research. I find many reference images and materials for all my art pieces. A few places I look for references are Unsplash, Wikimedia Commons, and USGS. It's important to make sure your references are free to use for commercial purposes or that you purchase the images you want to use. The three websites listed above have several images that are free to use, in the public domain, or in under the creative commons license.
Second, layout the scene using the armature of a rectangle. If you are not sure what that is, I encourage you to look it up or look back at my previous posts for information. I use it when I have lots of elements in an artwork. It helps me organize and put elements in places that are pleasing to the eye and provide good flow.
Lastly, I make the art. I take the linework, make swatches to help me focus my colors, and then digitally paint.
Do you want to see how I completed the Usherwood logcabin artwork? Check out the short time lapse video of how I did it.
First, references. I took several pictures of the house and objects.
Second, line work. I start by drawing the house in the scene. The reference pictures help me get the house just right. I also use my reference pictures to sketch specific parts.
Third, swatches. I start all my images by creating swatches for different parts of my artwork. By making color swatches, I make sure the colors I choose look good together. I also tend to saturate my colors more.
Lastly, I digitally paint the artwork. It took me over 15 hours to draw this piece.
Enjoy!

Time lapse video | Red Elderberry Coaster 👀
You can watch how I digitally paint my artwork in this video.
The red elderberry shrub is covered in green, lace-shaped leaves. Around April–July, the plant makes tiny clusters of white flowers that develop into little red fruit in July–August.
Enjoy!

Time lapse video | Kayaking on the River
Video length: 1:30
Real time: ~12hrs
Client prompt: kayaks on a river with lots of color.
My solution: two kayakers paddling out near sunset on the river. The foreground shows part of the river bank with purple cone flowers and lightning bugs. While the background consists of trees, bushes, and cliffs. The water reflects the warm colors of the sky.
Enjoy the time-lapse video of my Water Witch digital painting.
This digital illustration took me about 8 hours to complete. The background scene is created using a one-point perspective.
You can create a one-point perspective by drawing a point on your scene and making all your objects relative to that point. All surfaces that face the viewer will be drawn as their "true shape" with no distortion. You can create most of the lines using horizontal and vertical lines. Any surface that travels away from the viewer will converge to your vanishing point. Each line you create will angle towards the vanishing point. Keep in mind that the closer you get to the vanishing point, the farther away your subject is.
Good luck and enjoy!
