To celebrate Easter, here's a trippy story about time travel and the resurrection, written by James McGrath, Dr. James F. McGrath, a professor at Butler University where he is the Clarence L. Goodwin Chair in New Testament Language and Literature.

As many of you know, I love a good retelling of a biblical tale. This one does not disappoint!

The Forty Niners and Divine Intervention, from one of our regulars, Bruce Farrell Rosen. Sports and superstition always go hand in hand but this takes it to a new level. Also, it reminded us of his book -- "If You Ever Need Me, I Won't Be Far Away," about his mother, which we love.

What role does divine intervention have in the Superbowl? Read and find out.

In my 20s, I got a tattoo to link myself to my grandmother and her Auschwitz tattoo. When I tried to remove it in my 40s, I realized it was too late. The ink had already left its mark on my son. Here's the latest essay on Substack, part of The Bubbe Tapes memoir-in-progress.

Rowan Keller Smith’s short story, “The End of Days,” struck a chord. I didn’t think I was ready for a post-pandemic read but Smith, a poet and essayist from Los Angeles, tackles it as if we were approaching a mysterious pandemic for the first time and it had me thinking. What if we had to do it again? What would we do differently? Read it exclusively on Esoterica Magazine .

In the End of Days, Rowan Keller Smith warns us about how immune we once were to thoughts of extinction.

The recently passed date of November 22 marked the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. For many of us of a certain age, the memory of hearing that news is etched into our brains like grooves in a record album.

"And of course there was the constant-- that rail overlooking the ocean along the walkway that separated the shops of one part of Front Street from the shops on the other.

It was along this little over pass that many would stop and eat their ice creams, and it would be the place from where many would jump on August 8, some surviving in the water, some not. Some clinging to the rocks, gasping for fresh air, some swimming further out to sea, some surviving and some not."

"The soul makes hardly an appearance in this life. It dreams, and in this dreaming it exudes a second soul, what might be called the operational soul, Spirit, or Self. This is simply an accumulation built up around that hard stone. The soul emanates a Self, the living, thinking spirit that has opinions and feelings and desires. It is the Self that is at the wheel, though the Self, of course, cannot survive death. Caught between an emanation from within, and the limitations exerted by material conditions without, the Self is made, like the conch shell, both armored and beautiful."

"Rebecca had a habit of noticing flora and she was truly keen on cacti for its shapes and threat of pain. Despite her age, she could respect a living thing that developed in such a way strictly to protect itself even if it did keep admirers at bay. There was a cactus on the way to Meesa’s that reminded her of the cross, and she sincerely genuflected when passing by it on the narrow road."
