The Henrico County Division of Fire wants to remind residents about water safety this summer. The Henrico County Division of Fire Water Rescue team recommends following these simple guidelines to stay safe:

-Always wear a PFD (Personal Floatation Device) while on the water
-Recomand replacing your PFD every 5 to 10 years
-Inspect your PFD before using it.
-Avoid swimming if impaired, as it affects your ability to swim
-Planning ahead and have a communication plan

Henrico Fire will be staffing their water rescue team during the James River's peak hours, allowing for a quicker response to water-related emergencies.

The evening this event was held, June 20, Henrico Fire and Chesterfield Fire were called to a water rescue involving a beached boat. Taking these safety steps today can make a significant difference tomorrow.

5918 Andrew Place, Newport News Structure Fire, Engine 7 arrived on scene of a single story residential structure. Heavy fire showing from the A side of the structure. Units are in defensive mode using truck 7’s aerial to apply water from above.

Richmond Shooting, 2100 Harwood Street, Engine 13 on scene of a single male with a gun shoot wound to the chest. Richmond Ambulance Authority has care of the patient and transported him to a local trauma center. No further information at this time.

Our condolences to Chief Dyers family, friends and the Richmond Fire Department.

We are mourning the tremendous loss of Battalion Chief Earl Dyer. While at work this morning, he experienced a sudden medical emergency. Chief Dyer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated by emergency medical staff. Unfortunately, he did not recover.

Chief Dyer began his career with the RFD in September of 1983. So he just celebrated his 40th anniversary, an incredible and honorable accomplishment.

“Chief Dyer is remembered as a man of the highest ethics, integrity, and possessing a strong moral compass,” said Chief of Fire Melvin D. Carter. “He brought his own values to the organization in ways too many to enumerate. A dedicated public servant not only with RFD but also the U.S. Army. A true patriot who survived Desert Shield/Desert Storm and three tours in Iraq. A consummate professional, both in and out of uniform. But he treasured, first and foremost, his relationship with his family and friends. His loving wife, Anna, was by his side when he took his final breath.”

Grief counseling and peer support are available to those who need assistance during this difficult time.

Yesterday afternoon, Metro Richmond Police Agenices (Richmond Police Department, VCU Police, Capital Police, Virginia State Police, and Henrico Police) and Richmond Fire Department reponded to the Altria Theater for a mass shooting.

At this time, there are 2 dead, 5 people shot, and several people taken to the hospital for other injuries.

The 2 dead, were 18 year old Shawn Jackson and his father, 36 year old Renzo Smith.

There is one 19 year old comfirmed in custody following the shooting. According to Interm Police Chief Rick Edwards, police will charge the 19 year old with two counts of second degree murder, with more potential charges to follow.

People Injuried:

9 year old girl: Hit by a Car
14 year old male: non-life threatening inuries
18 year old male: Shot and killed
31 year old person: Life-threatening gunshot injuries
31 year old man: non-life threatening inuries
36 year old man- Shot and Killed
55 yeear old man- non-life threatening inuries
58 year old man- non-life threatening inuries

Following this incident there were two other shooting in Richmond last night. A 15-year-old child was unfortunately shot in the abdomen on R St., and another person, who remains unidentified, was shot on Mosby St.

Our condolences to all families involved in all shootings. This violence has to stop.

he Henrico County Division of Fire swiftly responded to a reported structure fire at 12427 Poplar Forest Drive. Upon arrival, units were met with a distressing sight as heavy flames engulfed the rear of the building. Acting promptly, Henrico County fire units initiated an aggressive offensive attack. However, during the course of their efforts, the roof unfortunately collapsed, weakening the structure on the C-side of the house. Fire units were able to managed a successfully cat rescue from the home.
