Lai Mohammed denies asking Obi Cubana to loan Nigeria money

18 July 2021

Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has denied asking Cubana Group Chairman, Obi Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana, to loan money to Nigeria.
The Ministry of Information and Culture on its verified page on Sunday placed a ‘Fake News’ stamp on a news item claiming that the minister made the statement.
The news which was published by an online medium read in part, “Obi Cubana has this kind of money and Nigeria is borrowing money from China. Cubana should borrow us money, Nigeria is collapsing- Lai Mohammed”.
Obi Cubana has been trending on social media for the last four days for hosting a lavish funeral for his mother in Oba, a town in Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.

Several videos emanating from the event show people spraying money indiscriminately while a concert was held after the burial and was attended by musicians Davido, D’Banj, Phyno among others.
The ‘naira rain’ at the event has led to several memes asking Nigeria to borrow money from Obi Cubana instead of China.
The country’s debt has risen by N20.8tn to N32.92tn since the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), took over.

The Senate last Thursday approved Buhari’s request for ongoing external loans to the tune of $8.3bn and €490m under the 2018-2020 External Borrowing (Rolling) Plan.

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu cheery, preached unity in DSS custody -Lawyer

18 July 2021

IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Aloy Ejimakor, the Nigerian lawyer of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, says the separatist is cheerful in the custody of the Department of State Services.
He made this known in a tweet after meeting the IPOB leader in the DSS custody.
According to him, Nnamdi Kanu stressed the importance of unity and tolerance on all sides.
The lawyer said the meeting lasted about four hours.
“Today, I met with Onyendu at the DSS. We spent nearly four hours. My interaction with him was fulfilling.
“He’s cheery and looks forward to overcoming this predicament sooner than later. Again, he stressed UNITY and tolerance on all sides. He has you all in his thoughts,” he tweeted.

Kanu, who is facing an 11-count charge of treason, treasonable felony, terrorism and illegal possession of fi****ms, among others, jumped bail in 2017 and left the country.
The former London estate agent disappeared in 2017 after being released on bail, only to re-emerge in Israel and then in the United Kingdom.

He was re-arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja and ordered to be remanded in the custody of the DSS, while the case was adjourned till July 26 and July 27.
The Federal Government said security and intelligence agencies were on the trail of Kanu for over two years before he was re-arrested, adding that the head of the outlawed IPOB movement was detained again on Sunday – without giving details on the location of his arrest.
Kanu was initially arrested in late 2015 after calling for a separate state for Biafra, in South-East Nigeria.

His detention sparked mass protests and clashes with security services.
Election offices have also been attacked by suspected members of the group. However, IPOB – which agitates for a separate Igbo state – has denied being behind the violence, accusing the government of a smear campaign.
The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that Kanu’s Nigerian lawyer Ejimakor delivered two forms to the IPOB leader on Wednesday during a visit to the office of the Department of State Services, where he is being detained.
Ejimakor told our correspondent that the development would open up a new chapter in the trial of Kanu, adding that the Nigerian government would be served with summons to bring him to the United Kingdom, where another case would be heard over the manner of his rendition to Nigeria.
He said, “I went to visit him on Wednesday and went with two forms. One was the consular consent form that the British High Commission required that he signs to consent to consular assistance.
“There was also a form from his counsel in the UK. The firm is known as Bindmans, one of the largest law firms in the UK.
“The forms will open a whole new chapter of legality, including the filing of a Writ of Mandamus against the Nigerian government in a UK court to compel it to produce Kanu, because his detention is illegal under the British law.

Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria is now associated with terrorism, as many cases of insecurity can be traced to them. This herdsmen has led to many security crisis in Nigeria, they have killed people, destroyed people's properties including farm lands, they kidnapped people and so many other crimes relating to them. These are one of the reasons why Sunday Igboho, Yoruba activist issued an eviction notice to all Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land.

While some people are busy chasing the Fulani herdsmen away, because of issues relating to security, the school security guards of Abia state University, Law Campus Umuahia, continues to let these herdsmen inside the school, for grazing purposes. I don't know if the Herdsmen gives them some allowance, for them to permit the Herdsmen into the school environment.

The Law students in the Campus are always frightened whenever they sees these herdsmen inside the school, which has led to many of them leaving the school environment whenever the Herdsmen enter the school.

AFTER COLLECTING 1.6M AS RANSOM, FULANI WORKERS STILL KILLED THEIR EMPLOYER, shocking story.

If people should understand that nothing everly remains hidden on the surface of this Earth, then they will reduce the rate of criminal acts. Most criminals today commit a lot of atrocities, thinking that no one would ever know about it; but nature always have a way of unfolding secrets especially on the favour of innocent lives.

The killers of Oluwole Agboola may have never believed that their evil secrets would lie open one day, but since nature always speak for Justice, the suspects which include Dahiru Usman, 35, Muhammed Ahmadu, 32, and Ibrahim Mamuda, 20; have finally been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command.

This innocent man, Agboola is a business man and a farmer who is said to be a graduate of University of Ibadan. Agboola was running a piggery farm and have employed some Fulani workers who work for him in his farm.

Agboola being so kind to his Fulani workers, never believed they could plan evil against him; but it's quite unfortunate that they later paid him back with evil, despite his kindness to them.

As reported by TORI, his Fulani workers were said to have connived with kidnappers to come and kidnap Agboola in his farm. On that faithful day, Agboola got news that one of his pigs gave birth to 10 piglets. He was really excited and decided to check on his farm by 1.00pm.

That was when gun men with AK-47 surrounded him and took him away, even in the presence of his Fulani workers, who are said to the suspects.

The kidnappers contacted his family the following day and demanded for N50m ransom. But after negotiation, they later agreed to collect N1.650 million, of which his family paid them immediately.

But the most touching side of it is that Agboola was still killed even after his family paid the ransom they demanded. His decomposing body was later found where they killed him, after two days.

One of the Fulani workers while confessing said, he regrets the action as Agboola, their employer had been so good to them. He said he gives him N1000 occasionally outside his salary; and also gave him a portion of his land to always farm for his personal use.

So why this evil act despite Agboola's kindness to them?

If I may ask, why killing him even when he paid the ransom? Hope all they needed was money, and they actually got the money, why wasting this young man striving to add value to people's lives?

The world is really evil, no one is safe; if one is not hustling to make money, people will call him lazy one. But when he starts hustling hard and being successful, his life will seem to be a target to these heartless criminals. Where can we actually stay to in order to be safe?

May God Help His People!🙏😢😩

Four people were on Sunday, burnt to death while 10 others escaped in an accident in Ogun State after a 14-passenger bus was engulfed by fire.

The incident occurred at about 11.50am, at Atoyo inbound Ogbere, along Ijebu Ode/Benin Expressway.

According to eye witnesses’ account, a tanker laden with Black Oil was spilling its content on the road due to a leakage and the driver had to stop when fellow drivers drew his attention to this.

To avoid the unforeseen, the traffic officials in the axis had to divert and re-route traffic so that traffic inbound Benin can join the outbound traffic section to save other vehicles from having contact with the spilled content which had covered the length and breadth of the inbound section.

It was gathered that the driver of the bus which was travelling on top speed allegedly disobeyed the warning at the diversion point and chose to drive on the Black Oil not minding the consequences.

In the process, the vehicle was said to have lost control, and ran into the bush hitting a tree.

The impact of the accident was said to have resulted into the vehicle being engulfed by fire which burnt four of the passengers to death out of the 14 onboard.

Ten other passengers were said to have escaped the incident before the arrival of law enforcement officials.

At press time, the Divisional Police Command was said to have taken over the matter while the tanker driver was in Police custody.

If You Are In Lagos Or You Have Someone In Lagos, Take This Message Serious
Feb 11, 2021 3:51 PM

The message in this article is for everyone that resides in Lagos, or if you have someone in Lagos, you share the information.

After the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for victims of ENDSARS granted the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) the permission to reopen the Lagos Lekki toll gate plaza, some individuals felt dissapointed on why the Judicial panel will grant the LCC permission to open the toll gate when no one have been brough to book regarding the incident that happened during the ENDSARS protest last year.

Since the permission was granted, the call for another protest have been gaining weight. Another protest tagged gate was planned to take place this Saturday.

Considering how the ENDSARS protest later turnout the last time, where there was massive loot of properties, destruction etc, the Lagos State government, and the police force have warned that they won't tolerate any more protest after what happened the last time. The Lagos State government have advised parents to keep their children away from the protest on Saturday whether they are against the protest or in support of the protest. That arrangements have been made to deal with anyone caught in the act.

The Lagos State police command have also warned anyone with the intention of protesting that anyone caught will be dealt with decisively.

So if you are in Lagos, try not to get involve with any protest on that day. And if you are not in Lagos and have people/person in Lagos, also share this information. To be safe, avoid going out on Saturday if it's possible.

Nigeria is in war, I just hope that the real war won't happen soon.

Herdsmen Crisis: See What Benin Youths Did To Alleged Fulani Herdsmen in Edo State

Information reaching our news desk now has it that Benin youths have intercepted armed Fulani herders who were wielding assorted rifles together with charms within Benin metropolitan city on Monday, being 8 February.

In a short video clip, which has gone viral on internet, five herders were instructed to sit on the ground and properly questioned by angry youths who also display all they allegedly recovered from the herders but the herdsmen did say anything.

Recall, that some days ago, Edo State Youths issued a 14 days ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen to vacate communities, that have consistent attacks, occasioned by the incessant clashes between herdsmen/farmers in farms, kidnapping, r**e and killing in Edo State.

In recent times, insecurity has been on the high side, due to the nefarious activities of killer herdsmen who have been alleged to be ra**ng, kidnapping, killing and destruction of farms and crops in Southern Nigeria, especially South Western geopolitical zone, which made Ondo State Governor to issue quit notice to Fulani herdsmen living in the State forest reserves

Deadline to link NIN to bank accounts coming
46 mins ago

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami yesterday said the Federal Government would soon announce a timeline for Nigerians to link their National Identity Numbers (NINs) with their bank accounts.

Pantami, who spoke with State House Correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, said the timelines for the mandatory linking of the NIN to bank accounts would soon be released.

The minister had also said NIN would replace the Bank Verification Number (BVN) because the latter was not backed by law.

Panatami had last year set between December 16 and 30, last year as timeline for telephone subscribers to link their Subscriber Identity Module (SIMs) with NINs. The government had warned that ‘violations of this directive will be met by stiff sanctions, including the possibility of withdrawal of operating licence’.

After an outcry by Nigerians over the timing of the directive which had led to subscribers crowding at the few registration centres of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) across the country in disregard to the protocols of COVID-19, the National Task Force on National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration granted another extension.

Three weeks’extension was granted for subscribers with NIN from December 30, 2020 to January 19, 2021; six- week extension for subscribers without NIN from December 30, 2020 to February 9, 2021.

The Federal Government finally gave new deadline April 6, 2021, but stakeholders have urged the Federal Government to extend allow the exercise to run for, at least, six months and even remove the timeline in its entirety.

Pantami said told reporters that the Council also approved about N8.9 billion for a new National ICT Park in the FCT to coordinate public and private ICT hubs in the country.

He said: “The wisdom behind the ICT Park is for it to be a centre where public and private ICT hubs are going to be coordinated by the Federal Government, where young innovators with disruptive ideas will be mentored and all what they need provided for. We will provide enabling environment for them to utilise and come up with disruptive technologies.

“This is the first of its kind in Nigeria, we have so many parks and hubs but they are regional. This one will be central and will be a center of job creation for our teaming youths. It will be a center where technology will be developed and incubated. It will play a significant role in reducing unemployment and the reduce the gap of unemployability.

“The Federal Executive Council has approved the memo and we are going to start of establishing it in Abuja and we hope Abuja is going to be another Silicon Valley in Nigeria,” he said.

Farmer Dies In Ibadan After Fulani Herdsmen Allegedly Set His Cashew Farm Ablaze
The commandant of Amotekun in the state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, confirmed the incident in Ibadan on Wednesday night.

An Igangan-based farmer, Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan, from Gbogi Compound, Isale Akao Area, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government, died on his farm on Wednesday after Fulani herdsmen set his cashew and cocoa farm ablaze.

It is gathered that he died while trying to quench the fire on his farm.

The commandant of Amotekun in the state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, confirmed the incident in Ibadan on Wednesday night.

Olayanju said; "Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan from Gbogi Compound, Isale Akao area, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government, died inside his farm at Itigbo, Apodun Road, Igangan, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

"It happened that his cocoa and cashew farm was set ablaze. He met his untimely death while he was trying to quench the fire. Hee was never attacked by any Fulani nor any other person."

Though Olayinka could not establish who set the farm ablaze in his statement, a source in Igangan told SaharaReporters that it was done by the Fulani herdsmen who are hellbent on destroying Yoruba farmers' properties.

The source said, "Can fire destroy a farm without somebody setting it ablaze? This is one of the reasons behind the notice to quit Yorubaland.

"If Wakili and his men are still operating in Ayete, Igangan and Tapa axis, we cannot sleep with our two eyes closed. Don't forget a similar thing happened in Ayete recently when the farm of Odomofin, Baba Saubana, was set ablaze. All their cashew farms were destroyed."

When will all this crisis end?

Today's Headlines: 80 Fulani Herdsmen Arrested In Ogun State, El-Rufai Disagrees With Gumi & More
Feb 9, 2021 2:45 PM

EL-RUFAI BREAKS SILENCE.

Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday disagreed with prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Gumi, that the federal government should dialogue with bandits, instead of waging war against them.

After meeting with the bandits in the forest in Zamfara State, Sheikh Gumi had asked the federal government to use security budget to address the bandits’ demands, claiming that most of them had lost all their possessions to cattle rustling and extortion

But Governor el-Rufai in an interview with BBC Hausa, said the bandits should not be forgiven for taking arms against the country, stressing that they should also not be compensated.

He reiterated the fact that Kaduna was at war with the criminal elements, pointing out that ” my administration is at war with the bandits and so we cannot negotiate. Eliminating them is the only solution to banditry.”

El-Rufai added that the lack of unity among governors of the north-western states was also hindering the fight against banditry.

NNAMDI KANU REACTS.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s admission to the atrocities being committed by Fulani herdsmen across the country.

The Kaduna State Governor, had in an interview with the BBC Hausa, said that Fulani herdsmen who carry out banditry kill ‘mercilessly’ because they do not believe in religion.

Speaking further, Nnamdi Kanu noted that the entitlement mentality of the North caused the 1966 civil war and warned that the country is most likely to enter another one.

80 FULANI HERDSMEN IN OGUN STATE.

Men of Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have intercepted a truck loaded with no fewer than 80 men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Amotekun corps reportedly stopped the men, who were loaded in a truck, and a quick search revealed some bows, arrows and daggers in the vehicle.

Apart from that, sources told Punch that about 25 motorcycles in the truck also had cows.

Upon interrogation, the men were reported to have told the Amotekun operatives that they were going to Lagos and Ogun States.

The search was said to have attracted residents who trooped to the scene, but to avoid crisis, the security agents were said to have led the truck and its occupants to the police station at Testing Ground area in Iwo Road.

They were said to have been handed over to the police at the station for further interrogation and search.

What do you think should be done to the Fulani Herdsmen that were arrested in Ogun State?

FG To Replace Bank Verification Number 1
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, said the Federal Government had started arrangements to replace the Bank Verification Number (BVN) with the National Identity Number (NIN).

Pantami said he had informed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, about replacing BVN with NIN.

He added that the BVN is a bank policy while NIN is a law, noting that the BVN is only applicable to those with bank accounts, but NIN is for every citizen and legal residents in the country.

Pantami described the BVN as Nigeria’s secondary database while NIN and the database is the primary one in the country.

According to him, the National Identification Management Commission, NIMC Act 2007 provides that all citizens must be enrolled.

Bank Verification Number
Speaking shortly after a tour of telecoms operators and NIN licensees in the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister said President Muhammadu Buhari was happy with the NIN enrolment exercise so far.

FG To Replace Bank Verification Number
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami
Everyevery.ng gathered that Pantami visited the NIMC registration Centre in Gwarinpa, the Zonal Headquarters of MTN, Glo Mobile and Airtel in Maitama to witness the ongoing enrolment exercise.

You will recall that the Minister had announced the extension of the ongoing NIN registration deadline by eight (8) weeks.

Pantami said the Nigerian government had shifted the deadline for NIN registration to April 6 to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to link their NIN with SIM.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde said the process is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s policy to enhance security.

I can finish off Boko Haram without govt support – Sunday Igboho

Popular Yoruba rights activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho has declared he has what it takes to fight against Boko Haram without the government’s support.

Igboho made this declaration in a video interview released in 2020.

He said: “That which I will use in the fight against Boko Haram, I have it already.”

The video resurfaced after the former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, called on the Federal Government to invite Igboho to help drive Boko Haram terrorists out of the Sambisa forest.

Following the recent activities of Igboho, which he said were to rid the South-West region of killer herdsmen, Sani argued Igboho could help end terrorism in the country, particularly in the North-East, if given a chance.

He said the activist should be invited to help flush out Boko Haram sect from the dreaded Sambisa forest in Borno State.

Igboho has been in the news since he flushed out herdsmen in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State, blaming them for the cases of killing and kidnapping in the area.

He also visited Ogun State recently, saying he was in a community there “to help drive out killer herdsmen”.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Sani said: “Invite Sunday to help drive away BH (Boko Haram) from Sambisa.”

The vast Sambisa forest is considered as one of the places the jihadist Boko Haram group uses as its base and keeps hostages.

In the 2020 interview, Igboho was quoted as saying that the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, cannot be effective with government control over the outfit.

He said: “These herders we are fighting against, they are not after money, they only get orders from their leaders. Yoruba freedom fighters should not be kept under Governors, these governors will turn the fight against insecurity to business.

“Oyo State governor is of the Peoples Democratic Party, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos state governors are all of the All Progressives Congress and you want our own PDP governor here to support them, how will there be unity?

“And all the powers in this country belong to someone who is a Hausa-Fulani man. They established Amotekun and put it under a governor, the same governor that will request money from the federal authority.

“Yoruba youths only if we can be willing to fight. I am not asking for anything from anybody, what I will use in the fight against Boko Haram, I have it.

“I don’t need it from a governor because a governor will try to make money from it. He will claim he has spent a certain amount on Amotekun and makes a profit from it. This will not result in something good.

“When they wanted to start Oodua Peoples Congress, was it under any governor? Why is Amotekun meant to fight insecurity in the South-West, under the police?

“That’s rubbish; these people are not ready to fight for the Yorubas, they are simply looking for what to take from who.”

Igboho also said a time would come when people would rise to defend their lands.

He however added that people would definitely lose their lives in the fight while some would remain alive to enjoy the dividends.

He said: “A time will come we will all defend our boundaries. All these governors are betrayers, all they are after is how to make a profit and leave money for their kids.

“There’s no way people will not die when we want to attain freedom. No one can rise and say he wants to fight the government, we should unite. It doesn’t make sense that as freedom fighters, we stay under the government and earn a salary.

“When they started security outfits in the North, did they stay under any governor? Is Boko Haram under any government? These governors are looking for what to eat, they are thieves. They have sold out.”
