The graphite producer is developing a material production plant and mine in Canada as it looks to capitalize on Inflation Reduction Act-induced demand.

Nouveau Monde Graphite will supply the battery maker with 18,000 tons a year of the material from its mine in Quebec.

The most significant project was Cummins, Daimler Trucks and Paccar’s plan for a $1.9 billion battery manufacturing factory in Mississippi.

The investments, which came from four companies, add to the now 234 manufacturing projects announced since the Inflation Reduction Act passed.

$ENS - Battery maker EnerSys will build a lithium-ion cell gigafactory to advance battery production in Greenville, , according to a Feb. 14 press release.

The Greenville facility plans to start operations in 2027 and is slated to reach a an annual production capacity of four gigawatt hours.

Cleveland-Cliffs claimed it was forced to close its facility due to the International Trade Commission’s recent decision not to implement anti-dumping and countervailing duties on tin mill products from Canada, China, Germany and South Korea.

Cleveland-Cliffs will shutter its tinplate production plant in Weirton, , in April, laying off approximately 900 workers, according to a company press release.

The steelmaker will lay off roughly 900 workers after the International Trade Commission opted not to implement anti-dumping tariffs against steel imports.

The funding is the third and largest award so far made under the CHIPS and Science Act.
