We experienced the charming culture of ‘Isaan’ at Recall Isaan Isan Concept at Khaoyai in Khao Yai. ‘Isaan’ is a name used to describe the north-eastern area of Thailand which borders – and has historical and cultural connections – with Laos and Cambodia.

🟠 With lots of Bamboo as well as ‘Isaan’ colors, styles and shapes, the decor is unique and captivating throughout the resort.
🟣 The Lobby & Reception at the resort channel the charming Isaan style artwork and design.
🟢 Rooms are spotless, comfortable & tropically themed.
🟡 The breakfast had a variety of options. Particularly rewarding for us were the Patongo (fried dough sticks served with sweetened pandan and condensed milk) and various Isaan staples like Sai Krok Isaan - (fermented sausages served with a chilli dipping paste).

🟣 The on-site restaurant Isaan Isan Restaurant by Recall was impressive, serving Isaan style cuisine. Pictured inset is Neua Naam Tok - a typical Isaan salad, made with raw vegetables and thinly sliced grilled steak mixed with fresh herbs, lime juice, fish sauce, and chili flakes. In Thai, “neua” translates to “beef” and “naam tok” translates to “waterfall” referring to the blood that spills from the meat as it grills. Not the prettiest image but the resulting dish a perfect balance of spicy, tart, salty, and sweet.

🗺️ Thong Lo, Bangkok

🕰️Jirakaan which loosely translates to “once upon a time”, is one of the few restaurants in Bangkok that offers Halal Rattanakosin Era cuisine (1782-1932).

🇹🇭It pays homage to the flavors of Thailand’s yesteryear that are unfortunately almost forgotten or over-hybridized today. There’s an emphasis on the reign of King Rama 5 and some of his creations, as well as famous and long-lost recipes (some dating back more than 200 years).

🥟 For appetizers, we tried 4 different types of Thai snacks and “Miang Kham Goong Kaew” (wild Betel leaf wraps).

🐟For mains, we had deep-fried deconstructed sea bass and Thai pomelo salad with a grilled river prawn.

🍨For dessert, we had the pandan pudding in coconut milk. Creamy, soft and silky, this delightful and light dessert is refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser to end off your dining experience here on a sweet note.

In this video, we explore some of the Best Accommodation options in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

⛰️The first resort we stay at is 2Someplace Resort.
We stay in one of the circular rooms, which was surrounded by a beautiful mountain range & lush greenery. We also try out a Thai style hot pot and enjoy the resorts peaceful vibes. Breakfast was also included in our room rate.

🌾Our second accommodation option was ไร่นภาดล รีสอร์ท เชียงราย Napadol Resort Chiang Rai in Mae Suai district of Chiang Rai, close to many tourist attractions. They have comfortable rooms at an affordable rate. The property offers a glimpse into country life, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

🧘‍♀️Our third and last place we stayed at was Gita's House บ้านคีตา เชียงราย in the centre of Chiang Rai, conveniently located to many of the cities main tourist attractions. They have quaint rooms & the atmosphere is peaceful. The owner also offers laughing Yoga classes for those interested.

📍Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Rai.

⛰️Doi Mae Salong lies in the northernmost part of Thailand, right along the border of Myanmar. Sitting at a striking 1,200 metres above sea level, the mountain offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, with villages and valleys stretching out for miles.

🇨🇳 Mae Salong is unique in Thailand because it’s home to a large Chinese community living in harmony with local hill tribes. After rebel Chinese soldiers fought against the Chinese government at the end of World War Two, they fled to Doi Mae Salong for refuge and a place to lay down their arms. These former soldiers lived in the jungle for over three decades.

🇹🇭 Eventually the Thai government accepted their presence and negotiated, hiring them to protect the Northern border in exchange for Thai citizenship. This arrangement changed their lives and the culture of the entire region, which has since enjoyed longstanding peace and cultural diversity.

🌸 We had an opportunity to tour the garden of reeds amidst a diverse array of blooming flowers, embracing the cool breeze and warm sunlight in the wintery atmosphere of Chiang Rai.

✨The festival of arts held the theme ‘when you wish upon a star’, symbolizing the journey through a flower towards the stars. How do you think they did?

📍 Wat Rong Khun - White Temple Chiang Rai.

🤍This masterpiece of artistic brilliance is known to Thai people as Wat Rong Khun.
🤍It’s considered a unique temple due to its fairytale-like grandeur that stands out through the white color, as well as the use of glass in the plaster, which causes it to sparkle in the sun.
🤍The white color signifies the purity of the Buddha.
