Had a great couple days of 3D practice. We’ve been working hard over the past couple months even though I haven’t posted it on social media. So I guess that means it doesn’t really count. We are definitely getting used to the new bow and the new ASA class we are shooting this season. I have wanted to break stuff less and less over the past couple weeks, which means progress to me.

The “hang and hunt” setup has evolved over the course of the summer and early season, but here is a look at what I’ll be running for the rest of the season.
- Novix Helo hang on stand with backpack straps. Have also put some stealth strips on the platform to limit metal-on-metal contact.
- Novix mini double step sticks with 20” cable aiders from EWO
- Titan gear straps for a super secure attaching of sticks to platform. I use one for each side
- $18 Fieldline pack from Walmart to keep things fairly light. Even though I don’t care about weight, this small pack is the perfect size to carry the gear I need for this setup.

My #1 target buck for this season hit the ground last night and I couldn’t be more stoked. My shot on this buck broke during the last minute of legal shooting light. It was dark, he was hard quartering to me, and I could barely see my top pin so I was unsure of the shot. I saw the arrow was covered in blood, so I backed out immediately just to be safe. We went back about 3 hours later and it was a perfect double lung shot. My arrow hit its mark, crushed the scapula, and passed through. This buck ran 50 yards and expired quickly and painlessly. This hunt was the result of a lot of scouting, but mostly patience. I knew the general area this deer spent his time, and thought I knew where he was bedding. Even still, I knew I needed the absolute perfect conditions to catch him in daylight. After almost a full month into the season, this day finally came yesterday with a significant temperature drop and NW wind. I have to credit the hinge for helping me make the most controlled shot I have ever made on a deer. I knew this buck would be my biggest with a bow, but I trusted my shot process and didn’t allow target panic to set in. 2 years ago, I would have had a lot of anxiety in my shot process and sent my arrow who knows where. Last night at full draw I was incredibly calm, found my anchor on the bowmar nose button, and pulled through the shot. I got a surprise release and a super clean break, and that was all she wrote. Lastly, huge thanks to Doc . Can’t say enough about their operation, customer service, and for always fixing the stuff I break🤘🏽 Super pumped about this deer, and I’m super blessed to be a bow hunter.

I was super blessed with a great weekend at the Cullman, Alabama ASA Pro/Am. My 3D journey started less than 6 months ago and I have been super happy with my steady progress. My first ASA event in London, KY several months ago ended much differently than this one. I shot rounds of 200 and 197 to finish 28th out of 63 and three down for the weekend. Fast forward through two months of grinding and practicing, I knew I could win this event. Not only was I shooting my bow really well, but I was continually progressing in my knowledge of the 3D game. Both of my rounds were scheduled for Saturday, and I was able to put together rounds of 214 and 218 and take the WIN. Lastly, I am super proud to compete for and wear a Harvest Archery jersey. I’ve been visiting Doc and his crew since the beginning of the year, and I can’t thank them enough for sharing their knowledge and always going above and beyond. Go give them a visit if you’re anywhere in the East TN area!

Solid first round this morning at the Cullman ASA. Got off to a super hot start, had a couple miscues in the middles, but was able to finish well. I’ve shot my bow and put in the work the past two months and I can see a huge improvement. One more round to go this afternoon, hoping to do even better.

🏹 Progress🏹

Since my first ASA round back in February, my goal has been progress. To learn more and take something from each round. One month ago I shot my personal best ASA round of 200 at the Pro-Am in London, KY. It was a milestone for me, and I was stoked. This morning, I shot a 20 target round of 218 (or 18 up). The ASA 3D game is unlike any other aspect of archery. The learning curve is steep, but that’s what makes it rewarding.

Deer season is a few short months away, so it’s time to start dialing in the new “Run and Gun” setup. I’m running three climbing sticks from Muddy, and the Lil’ Ambush hang on stand from . Truth be told, the sticks will do for now, but they’re nothing special. However, I can’t say enough about Out on a Limb and their product. This stand comes in super light at 8.5 pounds and measures 13.5” by 21”. It’s super compact, and fits great on my frame pack. One of my goals for this hunting season was to explore a more mobile hunting setup, and I’ve found it. I was able to get some reps with the setup last night, and am super stoked to use it in the field.

Finally got the new rest and sight on the rig. These two upgrades are going to give me so much more micro tuning adjustments and I’m pumped for that. This is the trinity hunter pro rest, and the ascent verdict assault. I’m looking forward to getting to know my equipment better and using it to my advantage. I’ll be using the week to tune my rest and get my sight tape setup. I love the process! Also, big thanks to for taking the time to help me out this morning. Doc runs a great shop in Dayton, TN, so go see him if you’re in the area!

Second time on a 3D course and I shot my first 12 ring. This came a couple targets after a complete miss, but we won’t talk about that. We’re learning more a more each time we step on a course, and that’s my primary goal. I have a feeling my 3D journey is just beginning🤘🏽🏹

🏹 RECAP 🦌
2020 deer season was a memorable one for me. It was the first season I had more than one archery kill, and I can most definitely attribute that to the amount of work I put in. Two arrows and two dead deer is a huge victory in my book. I shot thousands of arrows in 2020, and I plan to shoot even more in 2021. Furthermore, I was able to fill both buck tags in Tennessee. One during the rut, and one during the late season. I logged over 30 sits, and saw a ton of deer. Ultimately, my last set of year ended with a filled buck tag, which was due to me getting out of my comfort zone and scouting during the season. I learned it’s important to be fluid during the season, and if you’re not seeing deer, you have to find out where they are. All in all, Huntin’ TN season #1 is in the books and it was a huge blessing. I also want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has followed along the way!🤘🏽

The scout holster from .retention is such a great addition to my hunting gear, and it would be to yours too. Season is over, but I had it with me on a recent scouting trip and I put it under my bino harness. I never even knew it was there, but it was if I needed it. Code “HUNTINTN” if you wanna pick up any of the sweet CUSTOM holsters they have to offer!

After a few weeks of shooting indoor, I had my best round this morning. I shot a 292 with 11x’s and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress. My goal was to shoot an entire round (10 ends of 3 arrows) and keep them all in the yellow. I accomplished this goal, and I’m looking forward to the accomplishing the rest of my goals in 2021.

This trail camera holder by is one of my favorites! It allows me to get my trail cameras above deer eye level, and also gives me the ability to put my camera on any tree I want!

Tagged out in TN✅
Second buck of the year is down. A decent 6 with no brows, which is a first for me. Yesterday around lunch, due to my frustration with the lack of movement I had been seeing, I decided to do some in-season scouting. During this time I was able to locate 2 brand new scrapes and a fresh rub in the middle of thick pines. This was a no brainer to me, as it was the freshest sign I knew of as of yesterday. I found a tree I could use a climbing stand with, dropped a pin on BaseMap, and got out. Luckily, the wind was PERFECT for this setup this morning, so I got there early, eased into my spot, and took my time setting up as quietly as possible. Around 8:45AM, this buck came cruising through. I caught a split second glimps of 3 on each side, and had to make a quick decision. I pulled the trigger as he was walking through the only gap I had. The shot was through a ton of brush, but it hit its mark. A quick death for a beautiful animal, more meat in the freezer, and another memory in the whitetail woods.
Moral of the story for late season hunting:
1. Hunt the thickest area you can find in the mornings
2. Hunt the best food you can find in the evenings
3. Don’t be afraid to scout during the season
4. Adjust your tactics as the deer adapt to the pressures of hunting season
5. Wait until the wind is perfect

Burned my first buck tag of the season this morning. I pulled the trigger at 9:26 A.M., and sent one perfect shot through both lungs. This buck was down in seconds, and is going to provide amazing protein for me and my family.

This season I have kept a journal of every single hunt. I put them in a folder in my phone, and note things such as date, time of day, wind, thermals, what deer I see, when I see them, and where I saw them. I’ve enjoyed this so far, and believe it will help me make important decisions in the upcoming years. Do you this or something similar?

Hey guys, super pumped to announce my new partnership with Northwest Retention Systems. They make handmade, custom holsters for many types of handguns. In this picture, I am wearing the “scout” holster in the woodland camo pattern. It’s a chest holster that is incredibly comfortable and perfect for many different applications. I have taken this holster running, hiking, and hunting. The best part about this holster is the “positive click” you get when you holster your weapon. It’s not going to accidentally fall out, it’s completely locked in until you need it. If the scout isn’t for you, go check out the many other different types of holsters they make. ALSO, for me and my followers they have hooked us up with the discount code “HUNTINTN” so you can get free shipping at checkout!

09/11/2020

Had a great hunt this morning. Had action before I had shooting light, and ended up getting to full draw twice this morning with multiple deer within 20 yards. The second time, however, I was able to let one go. If you’ve bow hunted long enough, you know the feeling where the arrow is almost in the air, but they take a step... Unfortunately, this is what happened. She took a step and the arrow hit further back then I wanted. I was sick to my stomach, but very relieved to have this much blood on the arrow. I knew that it was either liver (most likely) or that I got lucky and actually did hit lungs. After about 60 yards of tracking with great blood, I found what I thought might be a bed. Maybe I jumped her and she wasn’t dead? In the second photo, you can see some very dark blood that was in the bed which made a liver hit more likely. I immediately turned around and went to the truck. I knew it was lethal, but that she could possibly still be alive. On a liver hit, 3-4 hours is plenty, and because it was hot I went with three. We went to the last blood I found, which was where she bedded down. We found very spotty blood for 15 yards, and then NOTHING. Eventually, I stumbled upon her about 1 hour into our grid search. She doubled back toward the stand and was piled up. To my relief, she had been dead for hours and likely didn’t suffer long at all. Which is exactly what she deserved. I’m very thankful I had the presence of mind to back out when I did, and that I have many pounds of meat to butcher and process this afternoon. I’m thankful for bow hunting and the challenges it presents. The whole time during our search I was giving myself a hard time for not bringing my muzzleloader which was sitting in the back of the truck. I guess there is something about the challenges of bow hunting that makes it so worthwhile. Now, hopefully this weather will cool off and we can get a mature buck on the ground🤘🏽🦌
