"MULTO NG KASALANAN"
PAGNINILAY NGAYON:January 21,2024 Bible reading Genesis 32)

Devotional Passage

Psalm 63 - ( Enjoy reading your Bible first)
Psalm 63:8 - “My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.”

PRACTICAL TRUTH

When NASA began using a new kind of space telescope to capture different spectrums of light, researchers were surprised at one of the photos. It shows what looks like fingers, a thumb, and an open palm showered with spectacular colors of blue, purple, green, and gold. Some have called it “The Hand of God.”
The idea of God reaching out His hand to help us in our time of need is a central theme of Scripture. In Psalm 63 we read: “Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me” (vv.7-8). The psalmist felt God’s divine help like a hand of support. Some Bible teachers believe that King David wrote this psalm in the wilderness of Judah during the terrible time of his son Absalom’s rebellion. Absalom had conspired to dethrone his father, and David fled to the wilderness (2 Sam. 15–16). Even during this difficult time, God was present and David trusted in Him. He said, “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You” (Ps. 63:3).
Life can be painful at times, yet God offers His comforting hand in the midst of it. We are not beyond His reach.

LIFE APPLICATION

Beneath His watchful eye
His saints securely dwell;
That hand which bears all nature up
Shall guard His children well.

God bears the world’s weight on His shoulder, yet holds His children in the palm of His hand.

Blessed Saturday to you and all.

January 14, 2024 MORNING DEVOTIONAL

"No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you."—John 15:15

I saw it was the privilege of every Christian to enjoy the deep movings of the Spirit of God. A sweet, heavenly peace will pervade the mind, and you will love to meditate upon God and heaven. You will feast upon the glorious promises of His word.
But know first that you have begun the Christian course. Know that the first steps are taken in the road to everlasting life. Be not deceived. I fear, yea, I know that many of you know not what religion is. You have felt some excitement, some emotions, but you have never seen sin in its enormity. You have never felt your undone condition, and turned from your evil ways with bitter sorrow. You never have died to the world. You still love its pleasures; you love to engage in conversation on worldly matters. But when the truth of God is introduced, you have nothing to say. Why so silent? Why so talkative upon worldly things, and so silent upon the subject that should most concern you? A subject that should engage your whole soul. The truth of God does not dwell in you.
I saw that many were fair in their profession, but within is corruption. Deceive not yourselves, false-hearted professors. God looks at the heart. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." The world, I saw, was in the heart of such, but the religion of Jesus is not there. If the professed Christian loves Jesus better than the world, he will love to speak of Him, his best friend in whom his highest affections are centered.
He came to their aid when they felt their lost and perishing condition. When weary and heavy laden with sin, they turned unto Him. He removed their burden of guilt and sin, took away their sorrow and mourning, and turned the whole current of their affections. The things they once loved, they now hate; and the things they hated, they now love.—Spiritual Gifts 2:258, 259.

Further Reflection: Is Jesus my Best Friend? If someone were observing me, would they hear me speak about Him more than I speak about my earthly friends?

Bible verse to Live by: LUKE 12:51-53
“On earth peace, good will toward men”

PEACE ON EARTH BUT WHEN? (I)

When Jesus came the first time, the angels announced, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Lk 2:14). But in Luke 12:51, Jesus said something quite different, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay, but rather division.” Is there a contradiction, a mistake in the Bible, in the words of God? If there is a mistake, then who is right, the angels who delivered God’s message, or Jesus, the Message of God Himself? It goes without saying that we who believe in the perfection of the Holy Scriptures, the 100% inspiration and 100% preservation of the words of God, believe in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ and of His angels—both spoke the truth, and there are no mistakes in those words at all!

So, how do we explain those infallible words of the angels and of Jesus? The answer lies in God’s perfect Word itself. Jesus indeed came to bring peace into the world as the angels announced, but peace will only come when certain conditions are met. What are these conditions?

Peace will only come when we make peace with God. People in the world today are looking for peace—peace in the world, peace at home, peace at work, peace in church, but they will find it in vain. The reason why there is no peace anywhere on earth is because of sin—we are a sinful people living in a sin-cursed world.

That is why we need a Savior, and that is why Jesus had to come. That is why our Savior's name is JESUS for He has come “to save his people from their sins” (Matt 1:21). So, in order to have peace, we need to be reconciled to God, and be born again (John 3:3). Yes, unless we are born again, we will not experience peace in our life, we will not have the peace which passes all understanding which only God can give (Phil 4:7).

QUESTION:
Is my heart restless or peaceful?

My Morning Minute With Jesus

“Since you have not believed my words, which will come true at the appointed time…”

Today’s readings announce the birth of Samson and John the Baptist, two biblical symbols of God’s special intervention in Israel’s history. More importantly, their conception and birth were through the special intervention of God. Both mothers were barren and past the age of childbearing. God broke the rules of nature and opened their wombs. Indeed, with God, nothing is impossible. The readings also highlight the importance of faith in working with God and the way in which God accomplishes his purposes in our lives. The contrast between the first reading the gospel is glaring. Samson’s mother got the same message that Zechariah got. She, an ordinary woman, believed in the power of God to restore her fertility and later gave birth to her son, Samson, in fulfilment of the word that came to her from God. Zechariah, though a priest and should therefore have known better, lacked that kind of faith but rather mocked the message of the Angel. He definitely knew about the precedent of similar biblical incidents, where God’s intervention defied the natural order, namely, the birth of Isaac and the birth of Samson, yet, he doubted and questioned the validity and integrity of the angel’s message. Although his doubt did not stop the process since God’s work does not depend completely on his approval, he suffered the consequences of his unbelief. When we face difficult and near impossible situations, we must always remember that God, in his own time, neutralizes such conditions and blesses the one who has enduringly longed for relief and restoration. Waiting for God’s appointed time when we pray and present our petitions to God is another good Christian virtue that we must cultivate. Nothing can frustrate God’s plan when the appointed time dawns. So, we must be patient and persevering in our prayers, in addition to being faithful.

“O Root of Jesus, set up as a sign to the peoples, come to save us, and delay no more.” Amen.

✝️Gospel
John 1:6-8, 19-28
6 A man named John was sent from God.
7 He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.
8 He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light.
19 And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Messiah.”
21 So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22 So they said to him, “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?”
23 He said: “I am ‘the voice of one crying out in the desert, “Make straight the way of the Lord,”‘ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24 Some Pharisees were also sent.
25 They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize,
27 the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”
28 These things were done in Bethania, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. –
Matthew 11:2-11,
John 1:19-28,
Luke 3:10-18

Again, this Sunday, we are given the glorious witness of St. John the Baptist. This passage above is from Year C of the liturgical cycle, but Years A & B also present us with John the Baptist.

In this sermon of John, he says that Jesus will come and baptize “with the Holy Spirit and fire.” The image of being baptized “with fire” is a good one to reflect upon. It especially reveals to us the deep purification Jesus desires for our souls.

What does it mean to be purified? For one thing, the purification of our soul hurts. But it hurts in a sweet sort of way.

SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE REVIEW.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2023.

TEXT: JONAH 2 V 1 - 10.

THEME: REPENTANCE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

I want to sound a note of warning as we are reading this post, please do not wait until you hit the rock bottom of the sea before you repent of your sins or before you are ready to obey the Lord.

The reason is that we all have measures of grace and grace differ from person to person and you cannot change what God has made.

The grace given to brother A may not be the same grace given to sister B because our destinies are different and you cannot question or charge God for what He did.

It is unfortunate that some people are taking God's grace for granted and continue drowning in sin until water cover their neck.

I told us yesterday that for me what Jonah attempted doing is committing su***de by asking sailors to throw him into the sea.

Su***de has never been a good option for anyone to cover his/her sins because even after you took your life you must face the judgement of God for the sins you committed and killing yourself which will lead you to hell fire.

But God's grace and mercy led Jonah to go and do the work He assigned him to do which is to proclaim the gospel of repentance to the people of Nineveh.

It was at the bottom of the fish where God prepared a bedroom for him that he realized that God's grace has found him and he began to pray and repent from his disobedience and agreed to do the work God.

I ask you a question, when will you repent and start obeying God's word, is it at your dying point when your grace has elapsed?

Jonah said, when his soul fainted within him, he remembered the Lord and his prayers went to Him.

This is the time your heart should prick you to turn a new leaf and pray to God to forgive you and decide to do His work, time is short.

Prayer:
Father, please help me not to repent when your grace will not accept me.

HEAVEN: THE BELIEVER’S GLORIOUS INHERITANCE (3)

When we speak about Heaven, we usually refer to the dwelling place of God. The phrase “heaven and earth” generally refers to the whole universe – the world we live in, the world created by God: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen 1:1). We are told in Acts 17:24 that “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands.”

However, there are other notions of the word “Heaven” (adapted from Easton Bible Dictionary).

1. The firmament where the “fowl of the heaven” (Gen 7:23 cf. Gen 2:19; 7:3; Ps 8:8) and the “eagles of the heaven” fly freely (Lam 4:19).

2. The starry heavens (Deut 17:3; Jer 8:2; Matt 24:29). The word may also refer to the stratosphere or ionosphere – what the astronomers term “the Milky Way” with its galaxy of heavenly bodies (the sun, moon, stars and the other planets) spread across outer space. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” (Ps 19:1).

The old patriarch Abraham was directed by God to look to the heavens: “And he (God) brought him (Abraham) forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be” (Gen 15:5). In the same way, Job was told by his friend Elihu to “look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou” (Job 35:5).

THOUGHT:
What attributes of God do we see in the heavens?

PRAYER:
I praise Thee, O God, that Thou art the Creator of Heaven and Earth.

HEAVEN: THE BELIEVER’S GLORIOUS INHERITANCE (2)

Heaven is the eternal abode of the redeemed – those who have been bought by the precious blood of the Savior. There is no way one can enter Heaven but through Christ alone: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). None can save himself by his own merit or good works for “there is none righteous, no, not one” (Rom 3:10). None can ever get to Heaven but by the grace of God alone (Eph 2:8-9).

Our hope of Heaven is founded not on speculation or wishful thinking, but on our Savior's words of authority. Think of His wonderful promise of preparing a place in Heaven and His return for us: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2-3).

In his epistle, the Apostle Peter assured the suffering brethren that God in “his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Pet 1:3-4).

On our own, we cannot make it safely to Heaven. But our gracious God does not leave us to ourselves. He has given us the Holy Spirit who inclines our hearts heavenward that we may set our affections on things above (Col 3:1-2). The Holy Spirit – “the earnest of our inheritance” (Eph 1:14) – has sealed us “unto the day of redemption” (Eph 4:30). Our earthly sojourn may be long and hazardous but the Spirit of God sees to our safety till we finally reach our heavenly home.

THOUGHT:
“One way to reach those pearly mansions, Jesus is the only Way.”

PRAYER:
Lord, lead me safely to my heavenly home.

📖 1 Corinto 13:1-13 ASND

Bible Reading: PSALM 16

Bible verse to Live by: EPHESIANS 5:1-13
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

PSALM 16: “A GOLDEN PSALM” (2)

2. Warnings against idolatry

David warned against hastening “after another god” (v 4). This might have reference to King Saul who had consulted the witch of Endor when he was deeply troubled by the invading Philistine hosts. His inquiries of the Lord had brought him no answer (1 Sam 28:5-6). In doing so, Saul had transgressed his own edict against “those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards” (1 Sam 28:3).

“Often we hear of Christians who, in moments of desperation, yield to their friends’ suggestion to visit mediums and ‘bomohs.’ The end result is disastrous” [Meditations from Psalms by Rev (Dr) Timothy Tow]. In the case of King Saul, he paid with his life for the folly of seeking “after another god”: “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it” (1 Chron 10:13).

“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god” (v 4a). Those who worship idols will have their sorrows multiplied, and will bring upon themselves judgment from the true God whom they have forsaken. Their cherished idols will become bitter portions, causing disappointment and sorrow.

Brethren, let us learn from the psalmist. Determine to have no fellowship with idolators: “Their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips” (Ps 16:4b). Separate from them and “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness” (Eph 5:11).

THOUGHT:
Are there idols in my life that I must forsake?

PRAYER:
Lord, may I love and worship only Thee.
