VCC is pleased to have helped lead the way alongside so many other hard working folks and orgs. We welcome the commonwealth FINALLY recognizing the importance and viability of one of earth’s most perfect plants, and hopefully, soon, another thriving economy for small business, visionary entrepeneurs and responsible users. Be the smart example today. Use responsibly. Let everyone else act like its their first day out. We never needed anyone’s permission to know what was right in the first place.

Victory! But its not over...
A long fought battle is finally coming to a close, but the war isnt won. We have to make sure this new economy goes into the hands of small business and working class entrepeneurs and farmers, not just Big Pharma and Big Corporations.
When we celebrate Independence Day right this summer lets remember to keep up the pressure, bring cannabis out of the closet and makes sure the TRADITIONAL market is a big part of the conversation.

The governor approves the expedited date for cannabis legalization on July 1st, 2021. We are beyond excited and look forward to this becoming official very soon. Thank you to all the folks working hard to make this long overdue shift a reality in Virginia!!!

Today, our friends at Ma*****na Justice, along with 23 other organizations, sent a letter to Governor of Virginia Ralph Northam and Virginia lawmakers, laying out five criteria for ma*****na legalization that will center racial equity and the people and communities most impacted by decades of the War on Drugs.

"Virginia has the incredible opportunity to be the first state in the South to legalize ma*****na, but your job will not be complete if you don’t legalize in a way that rights the wrongs of the disparate impact the War on Drugs has had on Black and Brown communities," stated the letter. "It’s imperative that you consider legalization with a racial equity lens in order to adopt legislation of which Virginians can be proud."

The five criteria include:
1. Repeal the prohibition now.
2. Take no action that will criminalize another generation of youth.
3. Repair the harm done by ma*****na prohibition.
4. Ensure that impacted people and communities have access to the new legal markets.
5. Implement meaningful and specific reinvestment in the communities harmed by ma*****na prohibition.
