Today, The Bank of England has unveiled designs for new bank notes featuring His Majesty The King. They are expected to enter circulation in the UK by mid-2024.

Although the Monarch’s likeness has appeared on coins since the eighth century, bank notes are a much more recent invention. The British Sovereign has only been featured on British bank notes since 1960, making His Majesty just the second Monarch - and the first King - to appear on currency in this way.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is struggling to hang on to power after at least a dozen legislators from his ruling party switched sides ahead of a vote of no-confidence against him.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has been leading a coalition government since 2018 with a thin majority in parliament. In recent days, allied parties have also publicly threatened to part ways over policy disputes, exacerbating the political troubles facing the former cricketing star.
Earlier this month, opposition parties jointly moved up the no-confidence motion to oust the prime minister, accusing him of misrule and mismanaging the economy and foreign policy. The vote is expected later this month or in early April.
Khan and his ministers reject the charges and accuse the opposition of bribing PTI legislators to encourage defections.
The dissidents and political opponents both have dismissed the bribery accusations as an attempt by the prime minister to cling to power.
On Friday, the government announced it will petition the Supreme Court as early as Monday to seek a ruling on whether the defecting lawmakers are eligible to retain their seats and cast a vote after switching sides.
Pakistan’s floor-crossing law states that parliamentarians who vote against their party could lose their seats. Khan’s advisers say they want the country’s top court to interpret the law to see whether it also applies before the defecting lawmakers cast votes.

Traditional Kashmiri carpet weavers are turning to a 21st-century technology already embraced by French winemakers and other international purveyors to boost sales by reassuring buyers that they are buying authentic made-in-Kashmir carpets, not cheap imitations.
The technology, used to authenticate wine from Cabo Verde, watches made in Switzerland, Bashkir honey from Russia and Tushuri Guda cheese from Georgia, combines a digital QR code with geo-locational features to guarantee to buyers that a carpet was actually woven in Kashmir.
Carpets from the region are ranked among the finest in the world because of the fineness of the weaving and the quality of the wool and silk yarn.
Mahmood Ahmad Shah, director of Handloom & Handicrafts in Kashmir, says this is the first time the region’s pashmina or Kashmir silk carpets have received QR code-based geographical indications.
With QR code tagging, Shah expects to attract more clients, benefiting local artisans in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The Ukrainian nuclear power plants at Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia, both now under the control of Russian forces, are being run and managed by their Ukrainian staff, Russia's atomic energy agency Rosatom said Saturday, according to the RIA news agency.
Rosatom's statement said an external power supply was being restored to the defunct Chernobyl plant, site of the world's worst nuclear accident in 1986, with the help of Russian specialists.
It also said activities to ensure safety at the plants were being carried out in coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Ukraine had warned of an increased risk of a radiation leak from Chernobyl if its high-voltage power line, damaged in fighting, was not repaired.
The Ukrainian state nuclear company Energoatom said Friday that staff at Zaporizhzhia, Europe's biggest nuclear plant, were under strong psychological pressure from the Russians present.
The IAEA said this week that it had lost touch with remote systems monitoring nuclear material at Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia, and IAEA chief Rafael Grossi voiced concern that the staff might be working under undue pressure.

Facebook said Thursday that because of the invasion of Ukraine, it has temporarily eased its rules regarding violent speech.
Moscow's internationally condemned invasion of its neighbor has provoked unprecedented sanctions from Western governments and businesses, but also a surge of online anger.
"As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have temporarily made allowances for forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules like violent speech such as 'death to the Russian invaders,'" Facebook's parent company Meta said in a statement.
"We still won't allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians," it added.
Facebook made its statement after a Reuters report, citing the firm's emails to its content moderators, which said the policy applies to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Facebook and other U.S. tech giants have moved to penalize Russia for the attack on Ukraine, and Moscow has also moved to block access to the leading social media network as well as Twitter.
