Alright so, I need to do some music posting and it's all gonna be like, y'know, fun and exciting stuff. Things are going well. But it feels really weird. And I know this is just the world we live in. The absolutely bizarre premise of needing to process and contribute to a never ending scroll of pet updates, natural disasters, gay weddings, literal wars, cute selfies, gig promotion, friends who have lost everything, oooh some nice fall foliage, look at this cool latte art, fascism, t-shirt selling robots, ... this week has felt absolutely surreal online. Not the first time of course. But I just needed to point it out. This is a ridiculous way to process information. WTAF.

So, uh, I guess we just like, keep going? Or something? Give what we can. Try to take care of each other. Try to share things that help and lighten and encourage. Continue to be awkwardly aware that we (and our attention) have all become the currency and not the consumers. But like, also... music! and lattes! and pets! and gay weddings! Yay! The internet is broken. None of this make sense. I just needed to say that. Again.

WNC and eastern TN are so dear to me. Such incredible devastation... it's just such a huge area! I can't get my head around it. So much loss. Of course things will go on and people will help each other through it and we'll all adapt but like, the scale of this is just overwhelming. Maybe just because I actually know this place and these people. I was a teenager for Katrina; I'd never been to New Orleans and didn't know anyone who lived in Louisiana. But also, I think this is actually a really really really HUGE disaster. IDK what you'd even compare it to. North Carolina is big. For those of us in the northeast, the area that's colored all kinds of scary super bright colors in all the info graphics... that's an enormous!!! It's not "just" Asheville. But also, omg Asheville. F**k.

I am so thankful it seems like most of the folks I know are physically ok, at least for now. But I don't think this is the kind of disaster you just clean up after. Do whatever you need to do. Stay as safe as you can. Leave if you can. I am so so sorry fiends. It's beyond devastating.

Ok, so, I'll be posting some stuff about shows and the new Paws album and some fun pics from our west coast tour that just wrapped up. And I'm sorry that it all just gets added to the unending, unfiltered, unorganized deluge (pardon the term) of all the things happening everywhere all the time. I don't think this is how we are meant to process information. And I just needed to say that. Again. Again.

I have made it to Ottawa! Tomorrow is the last show of my run with Tapestry's Postcards from France program which has been a wild fun ride. Tomorrow I meet Noah here for a house concert which I believe is sold out now. But we'll be in Toronto on Wednesday, July 10 for another house concert (details in comments) and then on to Lansing, MI on Thursday, July 11 (details in comments). We end up at one of my favorite festivals of all time Blissfest!

And after that I get to spend a day birding the Upper Peninsula!!!
