Ministry of community development takes in 13 rescued girls

The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services have taken over the welfare of the survivors of abduction following the completion of their medical examinations.

The 13 young ladies who were rescued from the abductors last week had been undergoing medical check ups in Lusaka to ascertain their health statuses and establish the extent of their s*xual exploitation and abuse.

The victims aged between 17 and 28 are currently in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare who have provided a place of safety as mandated in the provisions of the Anti-Gender Based Violence Act No.1 of 2011 and Anti-Human Trafficking Act No. 11 of 2008.

Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Doreen Mwamba has disclosed through a statement that the traumatic experience of the abductions has huge psychological effects on the mental health of the survivors, hence the need to subject the young ladies to a trauma and psychosocial therapy in a place of safety as part of the healing process.

"The Case Management processes which will be carried out by the social workers from the ministry alongside other professional psychologists from Chainama Hospital, will focus on psychological wellness and general welfare on case-by-case basis" Mwamba has said.

She has further said that the families of the survivors have since been informed of the planned interventions, and Government has requested for more time with the survivors before they are eventually reintegrated into their families.

She also disclosed that the families that travelled from other towns outside Lusaka to see their daughters will be provided with support by the ministry through the Lusaka District Social Welfare Office until the survivors are discharged from the Place of Safety.

"The families will also undergo counselling to ensure that they are in good state of mind to provide care and support to their daughters.

CATHERINE PHIRI SUSPENDED FOR TWO YEARS

Zambian 🇿🇲 Boxer Catherine Phiri has been suspended for 2 years from any boxing activities by the World Boxing council for using a prohibited drug prior to her last fight with Zimbabwe's 🇿🇼 Kundakwashe Chiwedire.

Catherine has admitted using Furosemide drug for “body slimming” purposes and says she did not know it was prohibited and has since apologized to all boxing fans as she did not mean to use the drug to enhance her performance in a fight which she lost.

The boxer who was being tipped to retire will now be away from the ring for the next 2 years after being found guilty of violating the WBC’s Anti-doping rules.

STATEMENT BY THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ON THE ABDUCTED MOBILE MONEY AGENT PAMELA CHISUMPA AND OTHER TWELVE FEMALES.

With a sense of relief I would like to inform the nation through you the press that today the 3rd October, 2022 we have managed to safely rescue Pamela Chisumpa together with thirteen other ladies that were held captive in a house in Chalala area of Lusaka. The following are the names of the other twelve female victims:
1. A female Juvenile aged 17
2. Grace Siabeula aged 22
3. Felistus Hachintu aged 18
4. Ruth Banda aged 21
5. Nalukui Macwani aged 21
6. Agness Kapwaya aged 21
7. Docus Chungwe aged 24
8. Priscila Mapulanga aged 23
9. Honester Lungu aged 25
10. Rosemary Chibwe 25
11. Faith Muluti aged 28
12. Paxina Chanda aged 22
This was after a long protracted investigation that we have continuously pursued since April this year when she was abducted along Cairo road in Lusaka. All the victims have been taken to a medical facility for quick Medical attention. We have apprehended one suspect who is in our custody to help us with Investigations.
We would like to call for calm amongst the general public as we wait for the victims to recuperate and further our investigations. A comprehensive statement will be issued in due course.

Man in Mindolo women s*x video just fine

POLICE in Kitwe have dropped the charge of having carnal knowledge of a person with mental illness on the three Mindolo women because the man at the centre of the case is of sound mind.

Thandiwe Phiri, 34, Kangwa Chembeye and Mary Mugala were arrested last month after a video of them having s*x with a man was leaked online.

Initially, it was thought that the man was mentally challenged but those that know him said he was just fine, with his only problem being that he drinks too much alcohol and sometimes fails to take care of his appearance.

10 die in UNZA accident

TEN people have died on the spot in a road accident that happened this morning at the University of Zambia -UNZA- junction on the Great East Road in Lusaka.

Six others who are critically injured are admitted to the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.

Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA has confirmed to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

The accident involved a Public Sevice Vehicle -PSV- Hiace Minibus and a Zambia National Service (ZNS) Lowbed Truck.
