PLUR, Love Edition 2021 : Korean Electronic Music DJ/Producer 컴필레이션 앨범

Morhyp 'Damp'
몰입은 제주도에서 석양이 아름답기로 유명한 베뉴 선셋 클리프의 음악 감독이다. ‘Damp’ 역시 석양을 바라보며 스케치한 곡이라고 한다. 수평선을 바라보듯 먼 곳에 시선을 두게 되는 몽환적 소리들이 감성과 노스탤지어를 자극한다. 해외에선 안쥬나딥 등의 레이블을 중심으로 이렇게 치유하는 듯한 하우스 음악들이 큰 인기를 끌고 있다. 그 음악적 계보가 한국에서도 이어지고 있다.

세계적으로 디제이 장비의 패권은 파이오니어가 쥐고 있다. 다른 장비로 디제잉을 배운 사람도 현역으로 뛰려면 파이오니어로 다시 배워야 할 정도로 클럽과 페스티벌에서 보편적으로 쓰이고 있다. 디제이코리아는 파이오니어 디제이 장비의 국내 총판이다. 디제이 장비에 있어 한국을 리드하는 회사다.

디제이코리아 레코드는 바로 이 디제이코리아가 설립한 음악 레이블이다. 한국의 디제이들이 만든 음악을 발매하고 홍보를 돕는다. 안 그래도 언더그라운드의 자립이 어려운 한국에서 일렉트로닉 댄스의 사정은 더욱 열악하다. 디제이코리아는 레이블 운영을 통해 그들이 활동할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공한다. 씬의 약한 고리를 서포트해 활성화를 돕는다. 차준호 대표는 2020년 인터뷰에서 "아티스트들의 자생이 전체 씬을 살찌게 할 것이라 믿는다"고 말했다. 활동할 터전이 없는 음악계는 성장할 수 없다. 디제이 중심의 댄스 음악을 제대로 이해하고 서포트하는 레이블의 존재는 이 분야 디제이 및 프로듀서들에게 안정감과 희망을 줄 수 있다.

상생과 지원 목적으로 시작했기 때문에 레이블의 음악적 성향도 그것과 맞닿아있다. 특정 장르나 흐름에 집중하기보다는 국내 디제이 씬 전반을 포괄하는 넓은 장르를 아우른다. 2020년에 발표된 Vol.1만 하더라도 대중적인 EDM부터 언더그라운드 장르까지 폭넓게 아울렀다. 이번에도 강력한 드럼앤베이스부터 앰비언트 퓨전의 테크노까지 한 클럽과 크루에게서 기대할 수 없는 다양한 장르가 한 데에 담겼다. 특정 지역이나 (강남 or 이태원) 장르 구분 없이 한국 디제이 전반의 성향을 조망하고 싶다면 이 앨범을 들으라고 권하고 싶다.

앨범 제목으로 쓰인 'PLUR'는 평화, 사랑, 화합, 존중의 이니셜을 따온 합성어다. 히피들에게 '사랑과 평화'가 있다면 레이버들에겐 'PLUR'가 있다. 이 문화를 존중하지 않는 사람들이라면 춤 추고 노는 데에 무슨 정신이 필요하냐고 하겠지만 레이버들은 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 음악 파티가 추구해야 할 몇 가지의 가치를 정리해놓았다. 그게 평화, 사랑, 화합, 존중이다. 낯선 사람들과 대규모로 모여 파티를 할 때 어떤 마음가짐으로 음악을 즐겨야 할지 가이드라인을 제시한 것에서 시작되었다고 한다. 레이버들의 이상적 가치를 소환했다는 점에서 이 문화를 제대로 이해하는 사람들의 진정성 있는 음악이란 메시지를 담은 것 아닐까.

앨범의 발매 시점 또한 과하지 않은 선에서 의미 부여가 가능하다고 생각한다. 코로나 바이러스 때문에 2020년의 디제이 씬은 사실상 초토화되었다. 페스티벌들이 일제히 취소되고 클럽들도 가혹한 영업 정지에 시달려야 했다. 백신 접종 비율이 높아지며 파티에 대한 기대감이 높아지는 와중에 앨범이 발매되었다. 비록 4차 대유행으로 잠시 움츠러들긴 했지만 조금씩 공연과 파티가 재개되고 있는 미국과 유럽의 상황을 보면 우리도 머지 않았다는 생각이 든다. 이 앨범의 발매를 디제이 씬이 기지개를 켜기 시작한 신호로 볼 수도 있지 않을까.

As Jeju Island is a representative tourist destination in Korea, it is an attractive place where you can feel the peace of mind while looking at the calm sea all day long.

The life and culture created in the relaxed atmosphere has also developed uniquely to make it Jeju-like, and the DJ scene is also solid enough to be called the Korean Ibiza.

In summer, many DJs fly to participate in numerous parties and festivals. In front of the many seas surrounding Jeju Island, the warm sunshine and wonderful music lead music lovers to paradise.

'The Cliff' and 'Sunset Cliff' are the central points in the Jeju DJ scene. It is not a place where you can enjoy alcohol and food in a simple tourist complex, but a place where you can feel music and people, and it has been a place of exchange for many DJs.

And as the first result of that exchange, we are preparing a compilation album called 'Cliff'. Under the general production of Venue's music director Moryhp, domestic and foreign producers based on Cliff are filling the album with nine beautiful and lyrical tracks that remind you of Jeju Island.

Cliff's compilation album Cliff V.1, which will be released through the domestic underground label davotab, participated by Davotab's producers Bagagee Viphex13 and Pierre Blanche, as well as Gio Vanhoutte & Nathan Fix, GreenNavy, Matilda Eara, Morhyp, and Sun domestic and overseas proficient producers. , In charge of mixing and mastering at Studio Giant Village, the overall sound quality was improved.

The producers made it only for Cliff, different from the music they used to make. This album, made up of Progressive Break, House, Melodic Techno, etc, is good for listening to music, as well as for dancing in a club.

Want to ride the wonderful coastal road of Jeju Island while listening to Cliff V.1 in various songs in a composition divided into prologue, interlude, and epilogue. For a day or so, I lay down my busy life and imagine the sweetness of getting on a plane heading for Jeju.
