POLY IRESI RECTOR LEADS ASUP PAPER PRESENTATION
Abdullahi Salaudeen

The Rector of the Polytechnic Iresi, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE led the paper presentation of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Kebbi Chapter in the opening of her 8th Biennial National Conference.

The conference which started today, Tuesday 16th and will continue till Thursday 18th 2021, focuses its major deliberation on “Promoting Technical and Economic Innovation in Post-Covid19 Nigeria: The Role of Polytechnic Education.”

Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru FNSE, Rector, The Polytechnic Iresi presenting the lead paper at the ongoing 18th National Conference, ASUP Birnin Kebbi Chapter
During the opening ceremony of the conference, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Oluwatoyin who is known for his influential contributions to the growth of Polytechnic education opined that the roles of technology as the backbone of economic development in any Nation can never be underestimated.
In his paper, the Rector unraveled the roles of Polytechnic education in the promotion of technology innovation in Nigeria. “This education is designed to institute the promotion of industry technology, technological development and transformation to serve as a change agent for both technical systems and societal changes.”

He also noted that “to promote the technology in Nigeria, there is the need to upgrade the standard of educational practice in all the Polytechnics because the needs of the industrial sector are on the increase.”

In order to accomplish the promotion of Polytechnic education, Engr. Kadiri, therefore recommended the creation of National Polytechnic Commission (NPC). The commission, if established, will be charged with various responsibilities to include committing the government towards proper funding of Polytechnics, “additionally, this needs to be backed up by a serious political will, promotion of respect for technical education and commitment of training students in the technical domain where they can graduate and be self-employed.” Graduates of Polytechnics will therefore not only be self-employed, but also employers of labours as this will go a long way in curbing poverty and lack of technical skills in Nigeria.
The Polytechnic Iresi Rector in his paper presentation, also emphasised on the necessities to overhaul the technology curricular which should “reflect the real needs and roles in Nigeria society.”

The innovative Engineer, Dr. Kadiri, also discussed the essence of establishing highly equipped modern-day technical workshops, as well as training and re-training of technologists for continuous impart of the technical education from one generation of students to another.

Dr. Kadiri, while rounding up his speech declared that “financing Polytechnic and technical education effectively becomes a determinant factor for human capital investments towards both innovative and economic development in Nigeria.” He therefore recommended that “the government as a matter of fact, should continuously promote technical and vocational talents through research projects, scholarships and project sponsorship”.

THE POLYTECHNIC IRESI NOT 55TH IN NBTE RANKING
The attention of the Polytechnic Iresi Authority has been drawn to the rumor going round that the institution was ranked 55th in the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) ranking of the best Polytechnics in Nigeria.

The Authority of the Polytechnic wishes to state categorically that the rumour is malicious, untrue and baseless.
The NBTE recently released a publication of the approved and accredited private Polytechnics as at April 2021, of which the Polytechnic Iresi is one of the private Polytechnic that made the list.

Erroneously, some students of the institution were of the thought and misinforming their colleagues that the Polytechnic being the 55th on the list is tantamount to the institution being ranked 55th of the best Polytechnics in Nigeria.

However, the publication made by the NBTE has nothing to do with the ranking, but based on the alphabetical order of the names of the all the approved and accredited private Polytechnics in the country.

Moreover, the Polytechnic Iresi during 2019/2020 admission process was ranked among the best 10 private polytechnics in Nigeria that conform with the NBTE admission quota policy. Likewise, during accreditation process of the institution in February 2021, NBTE affirmed that the Polytechnic Iresi is endowed with competent and group of polymathic lecturers as well as modern facilities which give the Polytechnic immense opportunity to compete with other high-profiled Polytechnics in the country.

In view of this, it is palpable that the rumour being circulated is nothing but a fallacy and should totally be disregarded.

The Management therefore enjoined the Polytechnic students to always be law abiding and be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic at all time.

The list of all the accredited private polytechnics as released by the NBTE is given below
