Every school in the county's valedictorian or salutatorian was an athlete this past season.

Louise - Imanol Mendez (valedictorian, state champion power lifter)
Boling - Kenna Gibson (valedictorian, played basketball, softball, volleyball) Emma Jones (salutatorian, played volleyball)
East Bernard - Abby Hudgins (valedictorian, cross county and track athlete, played softball, basketball and volleyball) Megan Gasch (salutatorian played softball)

!!Big changes from the UIL!!

The postseason for baseball/softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer will look different next season.

The top four district seeds in the playoffs will be split with the two higher enrollment schools going into a Division I bracket and the two lower enrollment schools going into a Division II bracket.

Going forward, each classification will now have two state champions.

Two Wharton County baseball/softball teams are STILL alive in the playoffs.

East Bernard softball plays Franklin in the regional semi-finals at Waller High School in a best-of-three series. Game 1, Friday at 6 p.m. Games 2 & 3 (if needed) Saturday starting at noon.

El Campo baseball plays Boerne in the regional quarterfinals at Sinton High School in a best-of-three series. Game 1, Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 & 3 (if needed) Friday starting at 5 p.m.

El Campo and East Bernard baseball teams both split their game one & game twos. They will be back in action Saturday looking for the decisive final wins to move them on to road three.

The East Bernard Brahmarettes took a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three series with Orangefield last night. They play a double header tonight.

The East Bernard Brahmas and El Campo Ricebirds had their respective best-of-three-game series paused after weather delays forced postponements. The finish of game one and game two will be tonight. El Campo will be Bastrop and East Bernard will be in Navastoa. If game threes are needed they'll be in action on Saturday.

ROUND TWO BASEBALL & ROUND THREE SOFTBALL UPDATES

East Bernard baseball will play Diboll in a best-of-three series back in Navasota. Game one Thursday at 7 p.m. Game two Friday at 7 p.m. Game three (if needed) Saturday at 2 p.m.

El Campo baseball will play Wimberley in a best-of-three series in Bastrop. Game one Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Game two and three (if needed) Friday starting at 5 p.m.

East Bernard softball will play Orangefield in Crosby in a best-of-three series. Game one Thursday at 6 p.m. Game two and three (if needed) Friday starting at 6 p.m.

East Bernard starts off the UIL track championship strong. Brahma senior Christopher Kopecky wins second place in the 3A 3,200-meter run.

Wharton County teams are competing in 18 different events today in Austin.

East Bernard and El Campo start their playoff journeys this week.

El Campo will play West Columbia in Palacios, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in a do-or-die one-game series.

East Bernard will play Onalaska in Navasota in a best-of-three series. Game one, Friday at 7:30 p.m. Game two/three (if needed) Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and 30 minutes after needed.

El Campo and East Bernard softball are moving on to round two of the playoffs.

El Campo will play Fredericksburg at Marion in a best-of-three series.
Game one Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m.
Game two/three (if needed) Saturday, May 4, starting at 1:00 p.m. and 30 minutes after if needed.

East Bernard will play Kirbyville at Anahac in a best-of-three series.
Game one Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m.
Game two/three (if needed) Saturday, May 4, starting at noon and 30 minutes after if needed.

Boling, El Campo and East Bernard start the playoffs this week.

Boling will meet Anderson-Shiro in the first round of the playoffs. They will play a best-of-three series with game one Thursday in Columbus at 6:30 p.m. Games two and three, if needed will be in Navasota starting at 11 a.m.

East Bernard will get Tarkington in the first round of the playoffs in a best-of-three series. All games will be at Cy Springs High School, with game one one Thursday at 6 p.m. Games two and three, if needed will start Friday at 6 p.m.

El Campo will play the Sweeny Lady Bulldogs in the first round of the playoffs on Friday and Saturday in a home and home best of of three-game series. Game one will be at Legacy Field on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday and game three if needed will be afterward.
