Tinubu’s food emergency: Zulum visits Baga, shares food to 23,000 households

About 23,000 households on Monday received food palliatives at distributions that were directly supervised by Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum in Baga town of Kukawa Local Government Area.

“Distribution of palliatives is one of the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He (Tinubu) has declared an emergency on food security, and in line with this objective, Borno State Government is distributing food items to communities. We have provided food and non-food items to over 20,000 men and women (today)” Zulum said.

While working on permanent livelihoods through revival of commercial activities and farming, Governor Zulum frequently distributes food palliatives to beneficiaries who could not farm in substantial quantity to feed them year round due to over 10 years of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Zulum’s latest intervention in Baga reached 13,000 households in Baga town itself, 3,500 at Cross Kauwa, a town near Baga and 6,500 in Doro Baga, another community, making 23,000 households in total.

Each of the 23,000 households received bags of rice, spaghetti and maize grain with women getting a wrapper each.

In Baga the 13,000 households were made of 4,000 males heads of households who received a bag of rice and a bag of maize grain each, and 9,000 females, each of who received a carton of spaghetti and one wrapper each.

In Doro Baga, 3,500 male heads of households received a bag of rice and maize grain each, and 3,000 females received carton of spaghetti and a wrapper.

In Cross Kauwa, another 1,500 male heads of household received a bag of rice and maize grain and 2,000 females received carton of spaghetti and a wrapper.

Borno’s palliative task force Chairman, Engr Bukar Talba, and Dr. Barkindo Muhammad Saidu, Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) led officials to Baga on Sunday to begin the distribution before Zulum joined them on Monday morning and completed the exercises.

The distribution had other participants who included the member, Mamber house of representatives for Kukawa, Abadam, Guzamala and Mobbar federal constituency- Babagana Malam Gana Kareto, Member representing Kukawa at the Borno State Assembly- Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujbawu, Executive Secretary of the Borno Geographic Information Services (BOGIS), Engr. Adam Bababe and the Executive Secretary, Borno State Primary Healthcare Agency, Professor Mohammed Arab Alhaji.

Zulum returned to Maiduguri on Monday night after the successful humanitarian trip.

Borno Governor His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Mni Fnse, alongside H.E Umar Usman Kadafur and entourage attended Wedding Fatihas across Maiduguri Metropolis.

Among the Wedding Fatihas graced by Gov. Zulum include that of Alhaji Abba Yusuf Permanent Secretary Ministry of RRR, Daughter, Son of Deputy Party Chairman, Alhaji Kalla Maina Monguno, Younger sister of Alhaji Garba Mulima, and that of Alhaji Zanna Ngaddama Daughter.

The Governor was accompanied by Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, APC State Party Chairman Hon. Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori, Members of National and State Assembly, Head of Service, Barr. Simon Malgwi, Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte Hussaini, Hon. Commissioners, Senior Special Advisers and Assistants, Special Assistants and others top Government officials.

Boko Haram: Borno unveils Zulum’s 25-year Development plan

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum led administration on Saturday unveiled a 25-year strategic plan with immediate, medium and long implementation phases, through which Borno targets to become world class after fully recovering from impacts of more than $6 billion worth of destructions caused by Boko Haram.

Zulum announced that all activities of Government will henceforth be executed according to the development plan.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed did the formal launch at an event hosted by Governor Zulum in Maiduguri. The gathering was physically attended by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, former Governors of Borno State, Kashim Shettima and Ali Modu Sheriff, serving and former National Assembly members, traditional rulers led by the Shehu of Borno, representatives from the international community, members of Borno assembly and executives, party leaders and diverse stakeholders, some of whom joined through the webinar.

Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and NNPC’s GMD Mele Kyari were among high profile persons who joined via a zoom link that was well publicized ahead of the event that held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri,

Zulum, a University professor, had directed a team, led by his Adviser on Sustainable Development, Partnerships and Humanitarian Responses, Drm Mairo Mandara, to interact with all stakeholders including the grassroots, Ministries and Agencies of Government to collate views on immediate, medium, and long term needs of communities in all the 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State, as well as how the State can speed up its recovery from destructions caused by Boko Haram, and explore its full potentials to become world class in years to come.

The team, using an inclusive and participatory approach that included a consultative workshop to define the objectives and priorities, came up with a strategic development plan.

Dr. Mandara in her remarks, gave an overview of the plan which as the slogan: ‘our Borno, our Success’, a document preceded by thorough planning and analysis, with a vision to ensure that in the next ten years, that is by 2030, Borno transforms the insurgency ravaged society into a peaceful, stable and self-reliant society with over 70% productive population, while by 2045, the State hopes to deliver a prosperous society that is a leading regional agri-business & commercial hub that connects & supplies the markets of Central Africa and Northern Africa, reclaiming the glory of Old Borno Empire as the stabilizing power in tropical Africa.

The plan is anchored on five critical pillars of Human Capital Development, Leadership in Agriculture, Healthy Citizenry, Sustainable Environment, and Regional Trade Hub for Commerce that will provide jobs and prosperity to the citizens.

Speakers at the launch of the plan, amongst them Ministers of Communication - Pantami, Finance - Zainab, and former Governor Kashim Shettima, took turns to pay glowing tribute to Governor Zulum, recognizing his bold vision for Borno. Shettima asked participants to rise and give Zulum a standing ovation, which was happily done.

Secretary to Borno Government, Usman Jidda Shuwa, and Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Hussaini Marte, in their separate remarks to welcome, and thank guests, both affirmed the commitment of stakeholders at the executive level, to actualizing Zulum’s lofty goals for Borno.

Highpoint of the occasion was the unveiling and display of copies of the development plan by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, who represented Minister Zainab in Maiduguri while she joined via zoom.

Zulum inaugurates committee to deliver 500 houses; approves 'owner-occupier' sale of 2,787 govt houses

Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum on Wednesday inaugurated a committee saddled with the responsibility of building a new estate of 500 houses to be started immediately in Maiduguri. The Governor also approved the sales of 2,787 houses in five government estates, to persons who were allocated the houses by successive administrations.

Speaking during the committee's inauguration at the government house in Maiduguri, Zulum said the 500 new houses are to be completed next year, (2020).

The high-powered committee, chaired by the state's deputy governor, Umar Usman Kadafur has members that include professional engineers.

The Governor announced that he had approved the recommendation of a different committee, to begin the sale of 2,787 houses made up of the 1,000 and 777 housing estates, the 505, 303 and 202 estates on owner-occupier basis, meaning those living in the houses will be made pay a sum after which they fully own the houses. Under existing condition, the houses belong to the state government while those allocated the houses pay annual rents to government.

Zulum recalled at the brief ceremony, that his administration has entered legal agreement with Family Homes Nigeria Ltd, a private housing developer, for the construction of 1,700 urban housing and 3,200 rural housing in the state. This he explains would be executed through a public-private partnership.

The Governor, at the occasion, paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, for the laudable efforts in increasing access to affordable houses across rural and urban areas of the state.

''My predecessor has amply demonstrated commitment towards the provision of affordable housing targeted at low/middle level income households in urban/rural centres and the reconstruction of ravaged communities'' Zulum said.

The Governor promised that his administration will ensure sustainable rural and urban development through the creation and enforcement of policies that regulate construction in order to guarantee public safety, encourage innovation, maintenance and upgrades of existing housing infrastructure across the state.

Gov.Babagana Umara Zulum Mni Fnse Received World Bank Task Team.

The team which include MCRP,PCU and North East Development Commission called on the governor earlier today at the government House Maiduguri to appreciate his efforts in restoration of peace and development in the state and to reiterates the Bank's commitment in development of various sectors in the state for recovery.

In his remarks the governor thanked the team for the visit and assured them of his government's readiness to complement the efforts of the Bank.

Subsequently the governor directed benefiting ministries to forward progress report as well as areas that needed support.
