RE- MY THOUGHT ON YOUTH ENGAGEMENT IN NATION BUILDING - BY Musa Abdu Ibrahim
Wonderful piece my friend.
Concise and detailed.
Unfortunately, Nigeria has it differently, when it comes to determining who a youth is and at what range of age.
Developed Countries have this range at 15-24, thence why by 30...a youth would've garnered enough confidence in leadership skills and diplomacy to lead even a Country!
Whereas in Nigeria, this age range majorly captures (for the educated) people just finishing high-school and or in their first or second year in College. Having had delays crossing over the WAEC/NECO conundrum.
(For the uneducated, this basically sits on whether you are married or single)
These are dependent Nigerians that Nigeria doesn't take seriously because of their inability to be 'productive' as per Naija definition....how unfathomable!
Forgetting that the disregarded youth is always the ethno-religious crisis participant and perpetrator of political thuggery!
In addition to the great lines you wrote on trainings and mentorships, I believe it would go along way also, if ethno-religious tolerance, people and leadership skills are inculcated into the final 3 years of high-school syllabi. This way, they will come out as Nigerians who see beyond their immediate tribe and religion.
Great work buddy! Try to channel this piece of yours through to the government 👍🏽
Regards.
