The Spaghetti Western spirit is strong in The Mandalorian, Chapter 3: “The Sin.”

This week, we dive deep into the Mandalorian’s crisis of ethics, starting with the Bounty Hunter Guild Code and ending with his loyalty to the Mandalorian Creed.

We also dig into thoughts on:

One of the best parts about (finally!) being in our Mando era is the concept art. I love re-visiting an episode through its stills and seeing the subtle changes from the original illustration to the final shot.

Even better, I love seeing what makes it from art board to screen completely unchanged—perfectly translated from the artist’s vision to what we see onscreen.

It’s here! It’s finally here!

Three and a half years ago, Growing Up Skywalker began a non-toxic, chronological weekly watchthrough of all of Star Wars—with the goal of getting to The Mandalorian.

Now we’re recapping the thoughts of a veteran Star Wars viewer and a new fan on the shot heard ‘round the world: the first Star Wars live-action TV show, “The Mandalorian.”

We often talk about how every Star Wars character’s story forms a tile in the mosaic of the galaxy, and Barriss Offee’s tale is no exception.

In our final “catch-up” episode to get back into chronological order, we’re covering Tales of the Empire: Barriss’s Tale (S1, Ep. 4–6, “Devoted,” “Realization,” and “The Way Out”).

We dive into themes of redemption, the parallels between Barriss, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka, and the archetype of The Crone.

In the Bad Batch finale (“The Cavalry has Arrived,” S3 Ep.15), heroic and monstrous intervention combine to conclude this dark and beautiful chapter of Star Wars.

And with our heroes hanging up their blasters, it’s time for a new generation to take the fight to the Empire.

That’s true for us, too!! We’re finishing our catch-up era by watching Tales of the Empire (Barriss’s Tale) next week.

The two arcs leading up to the Bad Batch finale paint a picture of the Empire’s rising oppression. On close inspection, they also turn into a surprisingly moving statement on anti-fascist work.

On the show, we examine how the Batch is laying a blueprint for the nascent Rebellion and what their fates might mean for the next 10 years of anti-Imperial sentiment. We also talk through the ways in which community is the answer to oppression…until even community may not be enough. (That’s when action is required.)

Over the past two weeks, we’ve covered some of The Bad Batch’s most visually beautiful episodes. (And the storytelling, pacing, and hand-to-hand combat are among the best of Star Wars.)

“Infiltration” and “Extraction” show us the fruits of Rex’s labor over the past two years—and how a single shadow trooper can bring a clone resistance crashing down.

This week’s episodes (“Bad Territory” and “The Harbinger) mark the return of two scene-stealers: Fennec Shand and Asajj Ventress. They’re busy making their own way through the galaxy—and dancing around the truth about Omega.

But while we’re stewing in the oppressive soup of the Galactic Empire again—at least we get a family reunion out of it.

“A Different Approach” and “The Return” (The Bad Batch Season 3, Ep. 4–5) ask Crosshair, at gunpoint, if he’s willing to accept the new Bad Batch. (Spoiler alert: He is, and everybody cries.)

Our review of The Acolyte’s final episodes is now live 🥹

In The Acolyte’s season finale, a convergence around a vergence leads each of our faves back to Brendok for a final showdown. In “The Acolyte” (The Acolyte S1, Ep. 8), we see circles closing, mirrors breaking, and themes resolving…and not always for the better.

Our discussion centers on justice and whether it was achieved. We also break down that GORGEOUS final lightsaber duel, talk through the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, and speculate wildly on who’s apprenticing whom, and how long it’ll last.

One thing is for sure—this show is begging for an Osha/Qimir messaround via a Season 2. And we want it too!!
