Wollumbin trees to be saved!
Community action has won the day for the trees at Wollumbin Highschool!
The Department of Education today informed me that “ the existing trees in the Wollumbin High School car park will remain in situ and alternative measures will be explored to enable staff access to the school.”
I would like to thank the Department for listening to the community on this and respecting the value of the trees and our community’s connection to them. Bruce Chick’s legacy will live on!

Incredible to see all the teenagers out today learning how to handle their vehicles in corners. Thank you to the Murwillumbah Sporting Car Club for offering the Young Driver training program. Every teen is precious and everything that keeps them a little bit safer on the roads is a really positive thing. Youths had a chance to drive the club cars and learnt a lot about safe manouvering while having a whole heap of fun. Keep your eye out for their next event if you have a teenager in your family, my boys loved it!

TAFE NSW Kingscliff is a drop off point for PLASTIC bread tags!

Under Australian recycling guidelines, bread tags have to be thrown away as landfill as they're too small to include in recycled plastics. Help us keep bread tags OUT OF LANDFILL.

Drop your PLASTIC bread tags at TAFE NSW Kingscliff and we will send to Bread Tags for Wheelchairs who recycle tags to fund wheelchairs in South Africa.

Drop off at TAFE NSW Kingscliff Student Services in A Block.

OUR POPULAR POTTSVILLE BEACH COMMUNITY MARKET is on again this Sunday 18 September. For those who can't make it this time and want to know when they happen, they are always held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month and they typically operate from 7am to about 1pm-ish. 👍🏼
So, gather your family and friends together for a morning's outing to the market grounds at Philip Street Reserve, Pottsville where the vibe is always friendly and product choice is astonishing. Our regular stallholders are ready for you, as well as a few newbies too.👏🏼
The shopping is relaxed and the aisles are wide enough to safely accommodate many buyers, particularly if you prefer to shop arm in arm like the shelly-shoppers in the photo. 🐚😉
Furry friends are welcome too, provided they are friendly and controlled on a lead by owners. 🐕
Don't forget that most local traders downtown will be open and would love to see you too. 😃
For any first-time visitors, we are very conveniently close to our beautiful creek, beach, oval and environment park for those who look to explore all that is on offer in the great outdoors... in addition to our fabulous markets of course! 🧐😎🤠😀

🎉 Festivals, fireworks and fun! The Tweed will be coming together through a series of events from September to March aimed at reconnecting our community.

🤝 We're launching the Together Tweed: Let’s Reconnect calendar of events this month as part of the Reconnecting Regional NSW – Community Events Program. Aimed at supporting communities and businesses as they emerge and recover from the 2022 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

🎆 Each event has been chosen to invigorate and reconnect the community with a range of dynamic experiences – spanning Aboriginal culture and corroboree, to music, food, poetry and theatre – even fireworks!

🖤💛❤️ Kicking off the program is the Kinship Festival at Knox Park, Murwillumbah on 24 September, a free event designed and directed by members of the local Aboriginal community for families to connect, share and participate in culture, community and country. Here’s a wonderful for you!

🎉 Murwillumbah resident and former Tweed Shire Council shire clerk, Ron Spence, turned 100 recently and returned to the chambers to celebrate!

👉 Ron was shire clerk – the equivalent of today’s general manager – from 1978 to 1982, after working his way up from a D-grade clerk position when he first started at Council in 1955.

Current general manager Troy Green enjoyed chatting to Ron about the many changes in the Tweed and in local government since his time, followed by a tour of the building.

👍 Ron has been an active member of the community and his life memberships include the Tweed Valley Justices Association, the Murwillumbah Probus Club, Murwillumbah Bowls Club, Murwillumbah RSL sub-branch and the Tweed Valley Tourist Authority.

🙌 Happy 100th birthday to you Ron!
