These are some of the steps I go through before starting a mixing session. 📕 ⚙️ Doublecheck sample rates to avoid mistakes! Audio files, project settings and interface settings have to match! ☑️☑️ ⬇️ Import audio tracks to the mix template. This changes often as I get more efficient and smarterer 👨🏻‍💻over time. 📋The template has busses prepared to be able to export stems and stereo mix at the same time, without having to set it up every time.⏰ Apart from this, there’s some reverb and delay busses set up and ready to use and tweak.😎 There’s no channel processing whatsoever.🙅 Maybe next version will include an automatic Karaoke version in there, who knows! 🎤 Quickly run through all the tracks to check if the names match, rename where needed. 📋 L and R mono tracks get consolidated to stereo where it makes sense. 🔊 Every element gets a colour that makes sense to me and they are put in separate folders and routed to the busses from the template. 🌈 I add 2 cue send in cubase control room, 1 for a reference track and 1 for a rough mix, to quickly A/B/C between them later on. 🎧 I clip gain all clips to get a rough balance without touching any fader.🎚️ Gain staging is less critical in the digital world than it was in analog, we’re not aiming for “the sweet spot” here and we’re not losing data integrity by gaining it up or down! That’s it, save as... 💾
