I am conflicted about this post. Because my heart, my mind, my soul have been consumed since yesterday by the horrific slaughter of 19 children and their 2 teachers in , Texas. I have strong views on the gun and violence epidemic in this country and the indifference our leaders - mostly GOP, but also so-called Democrat leaders - show toward enacting actual legislation to deal with this nation‘d gun lust.

However, my own anger, sadness, and helplessness shouldn’t mitigate the celebration and acknowledgement of the hard work of so many who contributed so much to our win last night at the in nyc for Best Documentary Series for . The project itself was a 2+ year undertaking that endured endless twists and turns - including our subject changing teams (and his life) amidst our production, his extending our production by earning his 10th Super Bowl appearance, his retiring, unretiring, and oh by the way a Pandemic we maneuvered through to boot.

We were able to do it all because “the team, the team, the team” - a coalition of the willing made up of grinders from , , .tv ,and . I am so grateful for your relentless creativity and hard work, your commitment to pushing boundaries, challenging me, and Tom and everyone associated with this project. This is a group award and everyone involved from the biggest to the smallest gets to call themselves an Emmy winner today.

If you’ve made it this far, then I just ask you to reflect on what you can do, what we can do to enact radical transformation in this country. To our leadership, but also to ourselves. I am so angry and hurt and I know that from that place I can’t contribute my best. But I also don’t want those feelings to subside and to slowly get lulled back into the false reality that things will get better. Our children deserve better. 🙏🏽

IT’S LAUNCH DAY FOR GREATNESS CODE SEASON 2!!! I’ve already said everything I can about this series and why it’s so special to me - and I plan on saying more around each of the individual episodes and athletes that will be coming out! For today though, I just want to celebrate GREATNESS. But what I have learned about Greatness from working on this series and with so many amazing talents is that Greatness isn’t just about elite performance and flow state and being in the zone and God given talents. On the contrary, Greatness is about dealing with failure, having resilience, being accountable, sacrificing for the sake of others, being mentally tough, ignoring the noise, and believing in yourself to the ends of the earth. What I love about these lessons are that they don’t just apply to great athletes - winning championships, breaking records, and stacking up victories - they apply to us all in our daily lives and the many challenges we all need to navigate personally and professionally. That’s why GREATNESS CODE is great. Thanks to all the amazing and talented creators that are a part of the series - at , , , and . Today we celebrate season 2. Tomorrow we get on to season 3!

is and always will be amongst the most special projects this company () will ever produce because it originated out of my shared basketball obsession with my friend, the late . I found it fascinating that as a fan I had a list of what I thought might have been his best performances but when I asked him, he had one I would have never predicted. Because it was deeply personal to him and was less about the acrobatics he did on the court and more about what was going on in his head and his heart. So I started floating that question by others - and - and they said the same thing. Hence the series was born with the notable help of and our friends at . Now we’re in our second season at with another incredible collection of talent. My fave part of this series has always been working with the gifted . We get to collaborate with some of the most talented athletes in the world…but it’s pretty obvious to me who the real 🐐 is. So…coming soon on !

It’s here. Episode 10 of is now available on +. We weren’t holding out and you. And the protracted release wasn’t a ploy to break news around Tom’s retirement. Or his unretirement. We just needed some time and space to make sense of that epilogue-like hangover that happened in Tampa after the prolific run in NE. Because the series if you’ve watched has always been about perspective - about Tom’s ability to mine wisdom from his amazing 20+ years on the field, but also for us to find its relevancy in life off the field. Things like resilience, accountability, sacrifice, discipline - when unpacked through the storytelling played out on the football field, the wins, the losses, the triumphs and quasi-tragedies, those anecdotes transformed from flimsy self-help adages to real life, battle tested life lessons. In my house, with my 14 yo son, we talk about , or at least the principles mined from it, pretty much everyday. How they can help in his quest to become a better human no matter what life he chooses on or off an athletic field. That for me will be the real legacy of the series. The other one will be the TEAM. I share that in common with Tom as well - I get way too much credit for our success, which really is the result of a cumulative and collective process. Holy s**t - what an incredible team I am surrounded by, led by the core of , .cirillo, and and the rest of the gang at . How about those elite artists at .tv ? And of course, our friends at and . Where do we go from here? I’m told Tom is working on an Episode 11. We’re on it.

We actually started our newest doc series with well over a year ago now. As with our prior series w/ and , the intention was to follow an elite athlete in the lead up to a big event. In Simone’s case, the narrative was pretty intuitive - one of the most accomplished Olympians in the history of the Games was training for the 2020 Games where she would presumably cement her status as the . Along the way, we’d unpack her complex backstory and come to understand that her most significant impediment to that lofty goal was...herself. Because when you come to know the challenges Simone has faced in her march to glory, well, holy s**t - she’s sort of in a class of her own. Guys - I don’t know what to say, we’ve never quite seems someone like this woman. Full stop. And then…the Pandemic. After almost 6 months of filming with Simone, just as the Tokyo games seemed to be within view, as infections numbers for climbed all around the planet, the games were postponed. Just like that. We scrambled like everyone else, shut down production, sheltered at home, zoomed to all holy hell and waited. Now….here we are almost a year later. Two things I can say - Simone never really stopped training and we never stopped storytelling. Like everyone else, the Pandemic is now part of all of our stories and it will be a part of this one too. Along the way, I started to realize that there’s probably no other athlete more prepared to face the challenges that are the result of this strange stoppage in all of our lives. And if anything, the other side of this - whatever form the #2021 Games take - will likely be the most inspiring ever and largely because we’ll all get to watch the Greatest of All Time get back on the mat and do stuff that no other Human Being in our history is quite capable of. That’s pretty awesome. Special thanks on this project (really this crazy journey) to the whole team - most notably , , , , and as well as the architects of this whole thing , , and .
