Shiva and his daughter Dammi have lived in London from 1983, having arrived as asylum seekers after the riot in the Capital City of Sri Lanka where Shiva lost his only son to the rioting mobs. Shiva adopts his little niece Luckshi in his home who is a great companion to Dammi. Synopsis. The movie begins with the Tamils protesting in London against the Civil War and it ends on the day the war ends when the “Tamil rebel Leader” is finally killed. However, the Civil war is not the theme of the movie but the love story is. Danny and Dammi meet each other at the University while Danny visits to Lecturer on “ Conflict Resolution”. Danny’s father arrives in the UK on a mission to seek support from the United kingdom for the Government's war against Tamil rebels in Sri Lanka. However, his only dream in his life is to see his son Danny return home after his PHD to start his political career in Sri Lanka. But, Danny being a pacifist, flatly refuses his dad’s request to return home because
(A) He has no interest in Governmental Politics in Sri Lanka. (B) He is in love with Dammi and he wants to marry her and live in London. This infuriates his father Sarath. Sarath feels himself being betrayed by his son Danny. Tamils are intensifying their protests in thousands on the streets of London and camping in Parliament square. Shiva is spear-heading the organisations. Protest marches against the war are taking place worldwide. Shiva is having several meetings with his colleagues about their strategies on protest marches. Police have meetings with the organisers, insisting that the protest marches must progress adhering to British Law. Sarath, having failed to convince Danny to break up with Dammi, requests his cousins Joy and Raj to find out the details of Dammi and her family and he leaves London. Upon knowing that Dammi’s dad Shiva too is not in favour of Dammi’s relationship with Danny, he requests Joy and Raj to arrange a meeting with Dammi’s dad Shiva. Consequently Sarath , Joy, and Raj meet Shiva. Most shockingly, during the meeting Shiva recognises Sarath with whom he had many bad and serious memories from his past life in Sri Lanka. Shiva recalls the events and abuses Sarath for what he had done to him and storms out of the meeting. Both Danny and Dammi continue their relationship. Dummy and Danny get attacked by the Tamil vigilantes at the protest march and Dammi receives multiple injuries. Her kidneys are damaged and need a transplant. Since the NHS has a shortage of donors, the specialists suggest that it can be done legally in Apollo in Madras. The cost is estimated to be £75k. Shiva is not rich enough to fund the cost. Additionally, he knows he wouldn’t receive his Indian Visa to accompany his daughter. Danny has no money either to fly Dammi to India for transplantation. The news is flashing nationwide on Radios, TVs and newspapers that the NHS is postponing all serious operations for lack of funds and because of this some patients of serious illnesses are at risk of dying. Danni applies for a bank loan but the Bank rejects his applications for lack of collateral and credit rating. Joy volunteers to unlock money from his house to pay the cost. Shiva swallows his pride and meets Sarath for help to get his Visa because Sarath knows higher places at the Indian Embassy. Sarath agrees to help Shiva on condition that Shiva tells his daughter to leave Danny. Shiva agrees to it. Danny too approaches Sarath for money and Sarath holds the situation to ransom for a deal that he will fund the cost of operation only if Danny returns home to enter politics after the operation. As Danny is in desperation for money to save Dammi, he agrees to it. Sarath now celebrates within himself that he has finally got his son to do what he always wanted. However, new events are beginning to unfold. That becomes the reality in life. One has to watch the movie to the end to enjoy the twists and turns.
