Tonight’s show is probably one of my favorites. City Pop Edition.
What is City Pop?

City pop (シティ・ポップ, sh*tī poppu) is a loose category of Japanese pop music that emerged in the late 1970s and peaked in the 1980s. It was originally termed as an offshoot of Japan's Western-influenced "new music", but came to include a wide range of styles associated with the country's leisure class and nascent economic boom, such as AOR, soft rock, R&B, funk, and boogie. It was also identified with new technologies such as the Walkman, cars with built-in cassette decks and FM stereos, and various electronic musical instruments.

So here is a musical time machine, taking us to the 80’s Japan. Break out your Walkman, and feel the vibes of Tokyo. Stream at whupfm.org

Tonight! We are going all in for the CITY! And the rest of the of course. This music always gave me a curiosity about soccer(football to the rest of the world.). Now that I will no longer watch the due to their treatment of players and women, I decided to watch soccer, and of course the premier league. I picked Tottenham to be my team at first, but after watching All Or Nothing: Manchester City, and realized Johnny Marr and most Manchester bands are fans of . Of course it was only right that I become a city fan too. Tune 8 PM EST. On or whupfm.org

Collection A-Z: Acetone- 1992-2001
The first time I heard about the band Acetone, I was working at a record store in California. Jack, the owner of the store knew my musical tastes well and was convinced that I would love this band. Unfortunately, I...

19/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Maki Asakawa- Self Titled - I am very confused by this artist. She comes off as a jazz crooner, but yet makes some soulful pop music too. This is a great listen for fans of the japanese reissue hype or just great music in general. My...

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Ai A*o- Lone - This record is so beautiful. Minimal at most. Just her voice and a guitar. The japanese language, her soft voice, and noodling with guitar make this album so peaceful. It’s weird that it’s on Ideological Organ, but hey...

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Naim Amor And John Covertino- The Western Suite And Siesta Songs - Probably one of my favorite record of last year. Just sounds like hip desert saloon music. Covertino is from the band Calexico, and again just some more of that Tucson...

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Naim Amor- Hear The Walls - The other half of the Amor-Belhom Duo. This is just some good tucson guitar music in the vein of Giant Sand. Good background or evening music.

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: The Avalanches- Wildflower - This is their long awaited sophomore slump record. There are some duds on this, but for the most part kinda fun. Check it out at your leisure. Once again, a record great for the summer.

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: The Avalanches- Since I left You - I owned the CD, but always pined for that wax. Once upon a time I saw one in Norway for a ridiculous price. Nonetheless they reissued it last year, and one finally fell into my hands. This record is...

18/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Louis Armstrong- Hello, Dolly! - Just some more traditional Satch. I wonder why they call him that? I guess I’ll have to google it. These songs are very familiar, most popular. If you find this record, make sure it’s the mono version.

12/01/2018

Tonight and her dad will be closing up the ho**ey tonk. Blake’s coming all the way from Twisp, Washington. Tune in at 8PM EST On

11/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Louis Armstrong- Ambassador Satch - Louis Armstrong is probably the most fun jazz artist to listen to. I would like to think that he doesn’t take himself to seriously. This record is a bunch of live recordings from a european tour....

11/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Dorothy Ashby- Self Titled - Jazz harpist is something I never would have thought existed. I heard about Dorothy Ashby from a compilation that Martin Courtney of Real Estate put on spotify. Apparently she was an influence for his solo...

11/01/2018

Collection A-Z: Antena- Camino Del Sol - Krafterwerk Meets Bossanova. Plain and simple. I bought this because Fact Magazine said it was one of the top 100 hundred records of the 80′s. Fact has some solid opinions of decade collections. Antena...

11/01/2018

Collection A-Z: David Axelrod- The Edge: Capitol Years 1966-1970 - David Axelrod is the creator of every hip hop drum break known to man. This is some solid stuff here. Although I prefer to listen to his albums in entirety, this is a great...
