Hereā€™s some history and relevance for Labor Day!

Labor Day, is celebrated on the first Monday of September, and has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s (19th century). It was born out of the struggles of the Industrial Revolution, when workers were exploited, overworked, and underpaid.

In 1882, the first Labor Day was observed in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. The movement gained momentum, and by 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law making Labor Day a national holiday.

The holiday was created to:

1. Honor the contributions and achievements of American workers.
2. Recognize the struggles and sacrifices made to improve working conditions.
3. Advocate for fair labor practices and workersā€™ rights.

Fast-forward to today in 2024, and Labor Day remains a vital celebration. Its relevance connects to our current society in many ways:

1. Ongoing fight for workersā€™ rights: The struggle for fair wages, safe working conditions, and equal opportunities continues.
2. Shifting workforce dynamics: The gig economy, remote work, and AI raise new questions about labor rights and protections.
3. Income inequality: Labor Day highlights the persistent issue of income disparity and the need for economic justice.
4. Work-life balance: As burnout and mental health concerns grow, Labor Day reminds us of the importance of rest and leisure time.

As we try to enjoy the long weekend, letā€™s remember the significance of Labor Day:

- Honor the past struggles and triumphs of workers.
- Acknowledge the ongoing fight for workersā€™ rights.
- Support fair labor practices and advocate for a more equitable society.

Happy Labor Day!

Youā€™re not too old to start over...
Youā€™re too old to keep doing what isnā€™t working for you.

Sometimes I think we all kind of feel stuck or stagnant then magically weā€™ve been transported to fresh water, and we donā€™t even realize it. Sometimes that happens a lot slower than weā€™d like it to and we rush, and we worry, and we get depressed, and anxious, but if we just slow down a little bit and observe, thatā€™s when we start to learn, we connect, we relax (a least a little), and sometimes we transform. Weā€™re busy absorbing too much of the information from the busy world around us and Iā€™ve found that slowing down allows for all that information or extra stuff to either melt away or find a nook or cranny somewhere in the filing system of my brain. Ive been doing something called nature/history and/or art journaling and it has helped tremendously with honing my focus and observational abilities (Iā€™m good at being observant but art requires patience and practice as does observing finer details), a creative outlet, connection, and relaxation. Doodling, sketching, journaling, and being creative has been a huge boost to my mental health.

Art journaling has allowed me the space to get back into nature where I can feel connected and present. Itā€™s done wonders for my mental health and overall outlook on life, my disabilities, healing from burnout, and connecting to the world around me. The historian in me loves teaching people about the past but then making those connections to the world around us. Journaling allows me to observe and then record it right now in the present, 2024. Iā€™m making historical, scientific, and personal observations that will hopefully live on after I do. Even if itā€™s a doodle! I think thatā€™s pretty cool.

As a fellow neurodivergent and mostly-introvert, I encourage you to get outside. Itā€™s good for you!

Just here trying to do my best. It is what it is. Being disabled and being younger is a mind fek like no other. You want to do all the things and in your mind you still CAN DO ALL the things, but then you try or it comes time to do it and simply you canā€™t or you end up really hurting yourself. Not only do you feel like a failure, youā€™re hurting, youā€™re beating yourself up, and youā€™re dealing with other people saying things like ā€œyouā€™re too young to have that or feel that wayā€ or ā€œyou donā€™t look disabledā€. Dude, Iā€™ve had it with that horse crap. Like for real. People need to just mind their own business because I donā€™t even care if they ā€œunderstandā€ what Iā€™m going through, or if they even ā€œunderstandā€ my disability anymoreā€¦because itā€™s none of their business. Iā€™m not taking the time to explain myself to strangers or even those close to me that will not listen or attempt to understand or care. Iā€™m not angry, Iā€™m just over it. Ya know? It gets old, I know Iā€™m ONLY 43 and shouldnā€™t have back and spine and all the other issues I have, but I do and donā€™t you think I deal with that VERY fact every day? My life has completely changed because of thisā€¦I used to be active AF and could spend 2 hours at the gym. Thatā€™s a fantasy world currently. So, yeah, itā€™s hard to deal with s**t, and weā€™re ALL dealing with something so be a little more conscious of what you say when attempting to ā€œcomfortā€ someone. Telling them ā€œthat shouldnā€™t be happening to youā€ or ā€œyouā€™re too youngā€ or whatever is just adding to their guilt and depression. Try ā€œIā€™m sorry youā€™re going through that, it must be hard to deal with all of thatā€ or ā€œThat sucks, Iā€™m sorry. Is there anything I can do to support you?ā€ or even ā€œI care about you and Iā€™m sorry youā€™re having to go through thisā€ works. Just a friendly reminder; words matter. Weā€™re all just doing our best, or trying to at least.

I havenā€™t posted anything other than AuDHD, some memes, and/or maybe atheist/political content latelyā€¦but mostly I just havenā€™t posted.

Anyway, Iā€™m tired of being confined to a ā€œnicheā€ Iā€™m much more complex than that and it starts to get at me. I hate algorithm anxiety and feeling like Iā€™m performing in fear of my content not doing well. Iā€™m so over it. Iā€™m a person. Iā€™m multifaceted. I get having a niche, but dudes, Iā€™m sorry, I literally have AuDHD and canā€™t just hang with talking about or doing the same type of content all day everyday. This is me. Iā€™m a historian. Iā€™m a mom. Iā€™m a partner. Iā€™m a friend. Iā€™m funny. Iā€™m political. I care. I journal. I draw. I doodle. Iā€™m a photographer and memory collector. Iā€™m an artist. Im snarky. Iā€™m creative. Iā€™m kind but I have a spine. Iā€™m disabled. I have AuDHD. Iā€™m neurodivergent. A mental health warrior. I love. I dislike. Iā€™m a birder. I love flowers and plants, butterflies, and critters. Iā€™m a nature lover. I am part of the world, and I have an opinion. Soā€¦Iā€™m going to share my thoughts, opinions, likes, dislikes, whines, wins, victories, and more. Not just a niche. This is all of me.

5 Reminders for the chronically ill or in painā€¦

1.) Itā€™s easy to feel like a burden or failure some days. Youā€™re not.
2.) Being chronically ill or in pain doesnā€™t make you lazy. It makes you a warrior.
3.) Just because it fluctuates doesnā€™t mean youā€™re making it up or it isnā€™t real.
4.) You can do everything ā€œrightā€ and still have symptoms & flare ups.
5.) Remember this is happening to you and your body - you are more than your current symptoms or situation.

I hope this helped you feel a little better today. Be sure to save this post so you can come back to it when you need a little encouragement.
