Congratulations are in order for PVC Board Member and sponsor of the PVC Audience Favorite award, Gino Gaudio. Gaudio’s documentary film, The Lost Legacy of Tony Gaudio received its red-carpet premiere at the Laemmle Theater in Glendale on December 15 to great success! Pasadena Vocal Competition is thrilled to announce The Courtney B. Vance Award for Outstanding Performance of an Opera Aria by a Composer from the African Diaspora, with a prize of $2000. The Emmy and Tony Award winning actor has made a generous commitment to sponsor this award for the next five years. This prize will be given to the best performance of an aria from an opera written by a composer of the African Diaspora. Our goal is to educate the operatic masses in all operas by Black composers. We at PVC are so grateful to Mr. Vance for providing this unique opportunity to showcase the art of Black composers for all to enjoy.

PVC is thrilled to have one of our Career Grant recipients, baritone Thandolwethu Mamba join Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in Reno this summer! We are accomplishing our mission of supporting young talent on every level and are grateful to PVC ‘24 judge Dolora Zajick for including Thando in this wonderful training program. We also want to congratulate Thando on being a part of Opera Orlando’s Young Artist Program starting this September!

Congratulations to past PVC Prizewinners Robert Stahley and Alaysha Fox, who will open Opera Santa Barbara’s 24/25 season together in Pagliacci! PVC 2023 winner Jana McIntyre will also close OSB’s season as Marie in The Daughter of the Regiment! 🤩🤩🤩
