Thank you Blount Pride and Flamy Grant and ACLU of Tennessee for a safe, fun, and BEAUTIFUL event yesterday. I was struck by how kind and helpful EVERYONE was—and as a former Director of Operations for a large ‘Renaissance Faire’, I was also struck by how stunningly discriminatory this attempted drag legislation really is. In a day at most any ‘Renaissance Faire’ one will encounter more innuendo, more cleavage, more make-up, more ALCOHOL, more weaponry, more ‘adult’ shows (with age warnings for parents to make choices) than anything I witnessed yesterday. Protecting ‘children’ is such a false premise for all the hate and bigotry behind these laws—WTF??? No…no….no…we cannot stand by silently and let the rights of our fellow Americans be infringed upon. If they wanted to protect children…start with feeding the hungry…protecting from domestic violence (and corporal punishment), supporting free lunch programs. But do you know who will do this kind of real work for the children? Those in THIS community—who understand oppression and rejection and neglect…and who have found their voices and will speak out for those who can’t.

Tracey is in TN—Heading out to support this event today…and HORRIFIED that this is even a battle. I (Tracey) used to do the ‘Fairy Festival’ circuit—and there were always fringe protesters from some Baptist churches…but NEVER was there a layer of potential LAW ENFORCEMENT as a threat. This is not acceptable in our country…so wherever you are…keep voicing support—posting—writing letters—showing up—we will not stand by silently.
