Hoshigaki (dried persimmon) are the most delicious dried fruits I’ve ever had and are certainly worth the effort. Thank you to and for another great workshop preparing hachiya persimmons for hoshigaki and using the juice to dye fabric and make vinegar WOW HOW COOL 🤯 We have lots of these trees in California mainly because Japanese and Asian Americans planted them. I’ll be massaging these tenderly over the next month or so and then they will be ready to devour 😈

I finished my sustainability certificate at 🍾 I had a great time, learned so much from amazing teachers, and met so many people passionate about sustainability. I learned a lot over the years interviewing and making videos with experts for BuzzFeed, but it feels great to have some formal education around sustainability, as I went to film school for my undergrad (still in debt from lol). I started this program in 2019 and took my time with it because I was working full time, but I was able to finish it up this year since I was laid off from BuzzFeed 💫 I’m freelance now, directing and producing videos with .nyc for environmental and climate non-profits and brands, and consulting on digital video strategy 😍 And I’ve soft launched 🔥👀

A big thanks to Brian Kateman, the co-founder and president of Reducetarian, for this interview explaining the reducetarian concept and sharing this amazing footage of his parents trying avocado for the first time from his documentary Meat Me Halfway. I love this measured and reasonable approach to getting people to eat less meat. Also, I finally have a word for what I am– a reducetarian!

I got to make this video with Stef and Chris of Lovin Off The Land during the pandemic and was so impressed with their commitment to this challenge and how they were able to pull this off. Very cool!

Wish we had more coffee shops like Nossa Familia Coffee! I feel like I have been seeing so many cafés offer to-go cups as the default even when people are staying for here. Or even if I ask for-here I get a to-go cup. Has anyone else noticed this since the pandemic? I love the cup upcharge concept as it seems much more effective than the BYO cup discount according to their data.
