PREMIERING THIS WEEKEND: 'The History Of Rock 'N' Roll' - Sunday at 5:00 PM Central, repeating on Friday at 7:00 PM Central! If you're not familiar with this program, here's a little info:

-----------------------------------------------
From 'All-Access'
-----------------------------------------------

The original “History of Rock 'N' Roll” was a highly ambitious 48-hour production assembled in 1969 at and for KHJ in LOS ANGELES. Hosted by ROBERT W. MORGAN, the “rockumentary” aired locally and was later syndicated around the country to stations like WLS in CHICAGO.

GARY THEROUX worked for a succession of key radio stations in LOS ANGELES, including KIIS, KDAY, KSRF and KRLA. It was during his KIIS tenure that GARY was invited by legendary programmer BILL DRAKE to bring “The History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” back to life.

GARY asked BILL for permission to completely reformat, reprogram and rewrite “The History of Rock ‘N’ Roll” from scratch – and, to his surprise, got it. He chose to break down the history into themed hour or half hour blocks – which could be broadcast in succession as a 52-hour marathon or broken out into standalone themed episodes. As much as possible, GARY had the stories behind the songs told by the hitmakers themselves – with other narration minimized to simply link elements together. He made sure every minute was compelling -- studding each script with “wow-I-didn’t-know-that”-type fun facts which illuminated both the songs and the stars.

THEROUX's 1978 iteration aired on more than 800 stations worldwide – and was named BILLBOARD’s “Top Special Program Of The Year.” GARY went on to teach music at UCLA before becoming READER'S DIGEST's Music & Entertainment Editor. Over the next 20 years, THEROUX compiled and annotated hundreds of multi-disc CD box sets, with cumulative sales topping 39 million copies.

When WINK MARTINDALE approached him to revive "The History Of Rock 'N' Roll" as a two-hour weekly series, it was launched, with WINK as host via THEROUX's RESERVE PRODUCTIONS in association with WINK MARTINDALE enterprises and engineer PETER GOULD's INTERVALE GROUP.

The all-new two-hour weekly “History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” answers key music fan questions, such as “What’s that song? Who’s the performer? How did they get that name? What inspired those words? Why does this music touch my heart ...make me smile ... make me cry ... make me want to dance, romance and fall in love? Whatever happened to the great songs I grew up with?”

Each episode of “The History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” is built round a theme spotlighting yet another aspect of rock and pop history – from “Leading Ladies Of The ‘80s” to “The ‘60s Greatest Dance Hits,” “Singer-Songwriters Of The ‘70s” to “The Best Of Folk-Rock,” “The Magic Of Motown” to “The Top 25 Hits Of 1980,” “Super Groups Of The ‘60s” to “Inside BEATLEmania,” “Goodtime Gold” to “The Super Summer Song Collection."

Hi Everyone!

The month of May is coming to a close. June is almost here. End of school. Summer. Travel. Weddings. Things are getting back to what we remember as normal. It has certainly been quite
an experience.

This hobby of ours is very busy of late. There are all sorts of transcription discs and reels being
discovered, inherited, bought, Some are transferred to digital and released publicly on Facebook and Internet Archives. For those that are not aware, an Eastern collector passed away last year, and his collection of a few hundred discs and a significantly larger amount of open reels and a literal ton of magazines and scripts were all digitized and have been put into a special collection on Internet Archives. (Click Here if you'd like to visit and download any or all of the files there. (You will find some great quality audio of some very scarce programs there.)

Many of you are (hopefully) aware of my own endeavor to acquire 600+ discs of Cecil and Sally. A Kickstarter campaign was initiated at the beginning of the week. Thanks to those of you that pledged funds. So far the project is 42% funded with over a month to go. Time will tell on that one.

Speaking of quality audio, have you guys listened to the extra 10 hours of programs that STA : Stay Tuned America has been providing this Distro? It is stunning how great these files sound. If you are technical and have not yet looked at these files in spectral view, the frequency ranges are extraordinary. I cannot say the same about my own files but I do aspire to provide that type of quality.

As a reminder....
The distributions will be over the internet only. There are no flash drives or cds being mailed.
A link will be sent to you. You will be able to download to your own devices. The distributions will be clean and raw wav files, clean and raw flac files, clean mp3 files, and hi resolution label scans.

As everyone knows "cleaning" is a very subjective action. Everyone hears differently. Everyone has their own preferences on listening.
The cleaned files are being by a member that has been providing his skills similarly for another group. His work has been appreciated by all those members and was requested to be provided for these new distribution groups. This members' work has been widely accepted and praised without complaint or criticism. It is an added value.

The 10 hours of audio provided by STA : Stay Tuned America are now being cleaned by two of the best audio guys in the hobby. The files are now being marked cleaned.

The cost per participant is $30 USD. Payment will be made in advance via paypal using the friends or family option. My paypal address is [email protected]
To make payment using an alternative method, please contact me privately.
Once your payment is received, I do my best to acknowledge that in a timely fashion. Links are sent out to participants on the first of every month or whenever payment is received (if after the first or if you have purchased a "back issue distro").

I release the lists for distributions in advance (like this one) so that you can then decide to participate each month or not. Please forward this letter to anyone you think might be interested in joining this new expanded distro.
If the user base expands enough, I can lower the monthly cost. (If you think I would not follow through on such a statement, you don't know me.) update: evaluation will be taken in July 2021

Here is the list for June 2021!!!

June 2021 Distro

Bob Elson on the Twentieth Century Limited
======================================================
Bob Elson conducts the interviews on board the famous New York to Chicago express train.
Each week Bob would interview several interesting commuters he encounters at the train station in Chicago.
Bob always has one standout guest each week. This month the broadcast is originally from March 11, 1948.
Bob's stand out guest is Gertrude Lawrence. If you don't know who she is, you are in for a treat. Google her!

Calling All Detectives (Audition)
==================================================================
Calling all Detectives was another 1940's detective show. Not the best detective show, not the worst. This audition disc
is definitely made after the program had already had a successful run for a couple years. Every program needs sponsors and sometimes it became necessary to find a new one. This disc is just such a case. One side has a sample program titled 'Treasure Hunt',and the other side is a sales message, giving information and statistics about the program to prospective sponsors.

Fibber McGee and Molly AFRS
======================================================
Jim and Marian Jordan were the consumate couple of radio for many years. There was a reason for that.
This month the Fibber Mcgee and Molly episode comes from an AFRS disc #320.
Fibber McGee and Molly. February 05, 1952. NBC Net / AFRS rebroadcast - Fibber is determined to pay a bill. Jim Jordan, Marian Jordan, Harlow Wilcox, Richard LeGrand, Arthur Q. Bryan, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon, Ed Begley, Phil Leslie (writer), Keith Fowler (writer0, Billy Mills and His Orchestra, The King's Men, Max Hutto (director). 29:16. Audio Condition: Very good to excellent. Complete.

The Adventures of Frank Farrell
=============================================================
Our teen hero returns this month with program #10.
Frank uses his martial arts skills to get the gun from Tony. Tony tells Frank that if he throws in with Big Tim things will go much better for him. Frank tells him no. Noel comes in and verifies that it was Garfield High students that threw the brick. Frank questions him and Tony about their stories. He tells them they are both liars. Mrs Harrington intervenes and insists Frank apologize to the two hoodlums. Frank steadfastly refuses and says he is leaving.

The Grantland Rice Story
==============================================================
As is customary, there are 2 episodes of the GRS in the distro this month.
Program #48, titled 'What Makes a Competitor', is pretty self-explanatory. Program #49, Famous Football Coaches, is also fairly self explanatory. Don't expect to hear any modern day names that you'll easily recognize.

Guest Star
==================================================================
This US Treasury sponsored program is not rare by any means. The 15 minute program went on for quite a while. The latest ones to come out were on 12" micro-groove discs that had 2 complete programs on each side. This month there will be a pair of these broadcasts. The first of our Guest Star programs is a super low episode number. Episode 31 dating back to October 23, 1947, The Andrews Sisters! Our second helping is program #193 dating to December 3, 1950. Our guest star is the beautiful red-tressed actress, Maureen O'Hara as she performs a skit titled 'The Tree in the Garden'.

Heartbeat Theatre
====================================================
Heartbeat Theatre was produced by CP MacGregor for The Salvation Army. Program #875 was originally broadcast December 3, 1972 and was titled 'The Gesture' and starred Ben Wright, Mary Lansing, Ben Cooper and Byron Kane. Marvin Miller - annonuncer, Director Don Hill, Producer CP MacGregor. Based on a story by Henry Olech. A story of WWII in occupied Belgium. The fight against the Gestapo and the N***s and how and where the Salvation Army helps.

Home Sweet Home
===============================================
Home Sweet Home is a 1930's Transco radio program. Each show was 5 minutes long. These broadcasts were short domestic comedies.
All the discs I have are centered on the Parker Family. Jim, his wife Mary, and their son Dick. Some old fashioned family
fun. This month features episode numbers 40,41, and 42. This disc had an edge chip leaving #42 a little short but only the closing
theme seems to be missing. #40 Dick Gets a Dog, #41 Stubborn Donkey #42 Uncle Elmer Knows Taffy

Information Please AFRS
========================================================
Information Please was a high brow quiz program featuring some highly intellectual and often entertaining celebrity panel members.
The program ran quite successfully for well over a decade and more for the laughs it produced from the listening audience. The laughs were caused by the verbal actions and interactions of the intellectual panelists. The appeal is in the academic questions, the wide variance of personalities and the way they played off each other, their large vocabularies, their combined span of knowledge, and how damn funny they could be. The creator of the program, Dan Golenpaul, sounds like he had some ego issues. John Dunning has an excellent write-up on Information Please in his Encyclopedia beginning on page 341. AFRS program #45 is from the original network broadcast of November 6, 1944.

La Rosa - Hollywood Theatre of Stars
=======================================================
Another CP MacGregor production, La Rosa Hollywood Theatre of Stars was a solid 30 minutes of dramatic radio.
This month, program -315, is a 30 minute production of 'A Christmas Carol', starring Ted Osbourne as Ebeneezer Scrooge. Originally broadcast December 22nd, 1950. Hosted by CP MacGregor with Wendell Niles as announcer.

Personal Album AFRS
================================================================================================================
Personal Album was an AFRS program much akin to the Treasury Department's Guest Star. Each week a celebrity is featured in a 15 minute performance. For May, I have AFRS program #670 featuring a very under-appreciated Dick Haymes. He was very popular in the 1940's and 50's. Fun fact, he was born Richard Benjamin Haymes in Beunos Aires, Argentina. Dick sang with only the 3 best orchestras, (Harry James, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey) before he landed his own radio program in 1944 (we have one this month!). Here he is on Personal Album, AFRS program #670. Dick's first song is Always.

Philco Radio Time
============================================================
This month's Philco Radio Time is program #5 of the 1947-1948 season. Oct 29, 1947. Bing's special guests are Boris Karloff and Victor Moore. A very entertaining Halloween program.

Information Please AFRS
============================================================
Also returning on a monthly basis is our favorite quiz program for intellectuals, Information Please. The audio is from an AFRS disc, program #45. The original network broadcast date was November 6, 1944. The panel that day was Franklin P Adams, John Kieran, Christopher Morley, and Will Durant.

Marine Story
===============================================================
Program #2 of this USMC Recruiting Program radio production features Robert Young portraying a Marine captain in a dramatization of another Marine Story. The stories of men of skill and courage. Men who believed in democracy and fought to preserve it. This is the story of Captain Gillespie in Old California.

Serenade in Blue
=============================================================
Serenade in Blue is a US Air Force recruiting sponsored radio program. It features US Air Force Band playing popular music.
Program #239 opens with Blue Skies.

Sleepy Joe
========================================================
There is not enough space here to tell the story of Jimmy Scribner. Jimmy was a caucasian man blessed with the ability to mimic voices and dialects. He had this Sleepy Joe character that told stories to children. Another example of a black character being portrayed by a white actor. Very similar to Uncle Remus. There are 4 of these 10 minute broadcasts this month, programs 1429-1432. 1429 - Br'er Fox's Friendship, 1430 - Br'er Snake Misses a Trick, 1431 - Br'er Fox and Br'er Bat, 1432 - The Whale and the Swordfish.

Smokey Visits the Stars
==========================================================
Back again for June we have three 5 minute broadcasts of Smokey Visits the Stars. A radio program sponsored by the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention Campaign of 1959. Programs 4,5, and 6 of the second series.
#4 features actor Michael Ansara (once husband to Barbara Eden), #5 features actor Robert Cummings, and #6 features Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Sounds of Freedom
=====================================================================
This month will have the penultimate episode of Sounds of Freedom, the US Airforce Reserve sponsored program that highlights the many sounds we enjoy because of our FREEDOM, which is very important to us. Program #12
of this series is probably the best one because two comic greats appear on it. Carl Reiner, and Mel Brooks.
I don't need to say anything else.

Stars on Parade
===================================================================
Stars on Parade was sponsored by the US Army and the US Airforce. This is program #590 and dates to December 2 of 1951. John Ericson stars in a short skit titled 'The Return of Joe'.

The Dick Haymes Show AFRS
====================================================================
This heartthrob of the forties, got his own show and with good reason That boy could sing.
The audio for this program came from an AFRS disc. The original broadcast date is unknown. Dick opens with 'On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe'.

Treasury Star Parade
=============================================================
Treasury Star Parade was a 15 minute, Treasury Department sponsored, radio program. This month an early number in the series is offerred up. Program #63 featuring Rudy Vallee AHO. Also appearing on this broadcast are The Sportsmen. A very talented quartet who attained fame via Jack Benny's radio and television programs where they appeared numerous times to the end of Jack's run on radio and television. This particular broadcast is most likely from around 1942.

Victory Parade of Spotlight Bands AFRS
=================================================================
Coca Cola sponsored this network program. Network discs exist but are considered endangered. The AFRS versions are what is mostly in circulation. This month we have AFRS program #

The Hollywood Radio Theatre - Zero Hour
==================================================================

The Hollywood Radio Theatre. November 12, 1973. Program #1. Mutual net, syndicated, WRVR-FM, New York aircheck. "Face Of The Foe". Participating sponsors. A mad strangler on the loose in Montreal. Elliott Lewis, Ferrante and Teicher, Jessica Walter, Joseph Campanella, Judy Carne, Lurene Tuttle, Rod Serling (host), Vic Perrin. 1/2 hour. Audio Condition: Excellent. Complete.

I hope you guys appreciate this!!!! :)

The Clyde Beatty Show. Program #3. Commodore syndication. "Danger Unrehearsed". Commercials added locally. Vic Perrin, Shirley Thomas (producer), Albert Glaser (composer, conductor), Robert T. Smith (writer). 26:33. Audio Condition: Very good to excellent. Otherwise complete.
