The Tasso Time Line Up!

Now that we're getting close, we can announce some off the artisans/demonstrations/activities that will be at the Tasso Time - Houma Spring Gathering.
Janie Luster will be demonstrating palmetto basket weaving, jewelry making with garfish scale, and how our ancestors would boil down water from the Gulf of Mexico for salt. Ann Robichaux and Zoe Verret will also be demonstrating basket weaving.
Our 3 weavers will even offer basket weaving workshops (keep an eye out for the upcoming registration form). Ann will also be demonstrating moss doll making.
Roy Parfait, Doug Fazzio, and (potentially) Mr. Iby Billiot will demonstrate traditional carving.
All of the above demonstrators will also be selling some of their pieces.
Corine Paulk will be speaking/demonstrating Houma French.
Several members of the Houma Language Project present to discuss Uma' Anũpa, our reclaimed indigenous language. And the
HLP will also provide coloring sheets and crayons for younger attendees. (as well as collecting family stories as people want to share)
Ida Aronson will be discussing plant knowledge and pointing our plants in the Medicine Wheel garden.
Tammy Greer will be cooking traditional dishes: grape dumplings and hominy. Aside from the grape dumplings and hominy, we will also be serving chicken and sausage gumbo made the traditional way without a roux. Tammy is also bringing the materials to play several traditional games for our younger attendees.
*On Saturday Only *- Jason Brightstar Lewis will demonstrate Chunkey, a traditional sport/game. We're not certain if we'll have stickball demonstrations but stickball gear will be available for those interested to learn the basics.
Nathan, better known as DJ Karo, will be playing some background music for the event.
And of course, we're asking all the Houma attendees to bring copies of photos of their family members to create our family forest.
