It is such an honor to have recognition in all 3 of these categories! It truly takes a village to make a film, and to make a good one it takes many different creative pieces coming together in just the right way.

This is Lauren and Deja’s FIRST nominations for directing and acting, respectively. This project is Lauren’s directorial debut, and Deja’s first time as the leading role in a feature! They were such a beautiful creative pairing (shoutout to for casting!), and hopefully this is the start of more collaborations and more recognition for these stellar !!

WOW. Our Athens Film Festival Southern Premiere was SOLD OUT at Ciné Athens with an amazingly invested and responsive crowd. A dream come true to experience our film and Ruby’s journey with such a warm embrace. And what an honor to have Mayor Kelly Girtz introduce us! THANK YOU ATHENS! ❤️

And thanks to all of our fabulous collaborators and supporters that made it out for this screening and the ensuing camraderie! It’s going to be a good weekend!

What an adventure it has been! From TAing together at the University of Alabama to traveling the world and making movies; how we have grown! Now you are an Assistant Professor, who is hiring your own TAs at the University of Georgia!

There are so many things to love about you, but I think my favorites are: the fact you are good at math (lol), you are a free-spirit, you have genuine curiosity, and you have immense amount of creativity.

The dream of Purple Magnet is rooted in reality because of you. Thank you for your hard-work, dedication, and s***k. Thank you for never giving up on our dream. Most importantly, thank you for your loyalty.

When we started Purple Magnet, I was adamant about hiring “the smartest collaborators we could find.” You countered me saying, “We can teach them. Instead, let’s strive to find the most loyal collaborators.”

Since then we have built team after team, based on the principles of not only talent and growth, but kindness and friendship.

I would not want to be on this journey with anyone else. Time after time we have been told that entrepreneurship is full of highs and lows. The highs are SO HIGH. Thank you for braving the lows.

You are such a blessing to Purple Magnet and everyone who has built it with us. We all adore you. You are a fantastic leader and teacher. Thank you for always being open to learn.

Congrats to UGLY SWEATER on their AWARD WIN #3!!! 🏆🪐🚀
WorldFest Houston’s Gold Remi “Lift Off” Award for Best Use of NASA Footage in a Feature Film. 🌎✨

This one is very special - a full circle moment from when director Lauren discovered this award existed almost 2 years ago, and intentionally and passionately incorporated NASA footage into UGLY SWEATER in the hopes of receiving it. Both of her parents had careers at NASA, and that surely contributed to her love of the cosmos, the unknown, and her ambition that can be seen reflected in the character of Ruby. 💫

(They juried the films but did not screen them this year, so stay tuned for our Texas Premiere). 🤠
