With the film’s 20th anniversary coming up in 2025, Robin reflects on how they created a dreamlike, hopeful score for such a dark and poignant story.

Robin talks about how he and Harold composed the music together, splitting up scenes and creating a dreamlike atmosphere for the film. We also talk about the music written for the film that features in the trailer too that has received clamour for him to work it into a fully formed song.

We talk about the challenges and plus points of scoring films that are adaptations of novels and how it can provide additional source material.

Robin also talks about Gregg's work and how as a film director with a clear vision in mind for both shooting and the music and soundscapes it's like he is turning mixtapes into films.

Anyone that knows me will know how much I have love Robin's work, both solo and in Cocteau Twins so was a real joy to talk to him about his music.

Next, we’re joined by the brilliant to dive into her powerful score for .folieadeux

While the film has sparked some debate, Hildur’s score is undeniably mesmerizing, intensifying its dark, complex atmosphere.

Hildur shares how she drew on classic Hollywood music, adapting iconic songs into haunting overtures that flow through the film (it’s not a musical—but it’s close!). Picking up from the tone of the first Joker, her music deepens the bleak, claustrophobic energy, perfectly complementing the narrative’s intensity.

One fascinating insight? Hildur often composes alongside the script, with her music actively used during filming to help set moods and guide actors through scenes. It’s a unique process that highlights the essential role of music in shaping a film’s emotional depth.

We also have something spooky for the post Halloween season with score to the new adaptation of Junji Ito's manga Uzumaki. AND to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Alexander Payne's Sideways we revisit Rolfe Kent's score.

First up, we’re thrilled to welcome composer  to chat about the haunting soundtrack he created with  for The Outrun,  powerful new drama starring Saoirse Ronan.

Adapted from acclaimed book, the film captures the raw beauty of Scotland’s Orkney Islands, a landscape that deeply inspired John and Jan as they crafted the score.

John shares the creative journey of composing for this “unfilmable” novel, much of which unfolds within the protagonist’s mind as she grapples with alcoholism. From the atmosphere of the Orkney Islands to the echoes of London’s club scene, each sound in the score reflects both place and psyche.

Without giving too much away, we discuss how John and Jan approached the film’s emotional climax with great care, creating a soundscape that resonates powerfully and sensitively.

We also touch on their past collaborations, including work with British artist Shackleton, and celebrate iconic experimental scores, from Klute to Requiem for a Dream.

PLUS, We've also got some time to play some music from new productions as well - there's music from the fantastic from their soundtrack to the adaptation of Mr Loverman.
