🎶 What a wonderful week of music-making at the 2023 Northern Ontario Music Festival!

Congratulations to all participants for some really fine performances. And for those going on to MusicFest Canada 2023 in Niagara Falls, all the best in your preparation for the next challenge.

Special thanks to every member of the volunteer Northern Ontario Music Festival Committee (and every school administrator who graciously granted release time so that teachers could be part of the collegiality of the festival and this important professional development experience.)

We appreciate the many hard-working volunteers, without whom there would be no Festival. Special congratulations to the Sudbury Secondary School music students who worked so hard (along with their music director Mrs. Whitehead) to keep the festival running smoothly. They received the inaugural Shawn Tilander “Spirit of the Festival” Award for their positivity and support of their fellow musicians.

Thank you to our festival adjudicators: Lynda Burtch, Kevin Closs, Jamie Dupuis Music, Hugh Johnston, Dr. Jane Saunders, Linda Wharton, Dick Van Raadshooven and Susan Urquhart, for sharing words of wisdom and encouragement. We are all better musicians for having spent time with you!

Today the 2023 nomf got underway, with a fantastic day of instrumental and guitar ensembles on stage at the Sheridan Auditorium. The fun continues tomorrow, beginning at 10 AM to 5:30 pm. Admission for the day is just $3, so come on out and hear some wonderful developing musicians from all over northeastern Ontario! Our learning resources including numerous arrangements, sing-a-long videos, audio tracks, lyric sheets and our Learning Guide. Registered participants also get early access on Music Monday to all our programming.
What’s new this year? Two music and wellness classroom sessions, a music and coding classroom session, and two primary music sessions. All sessions available to registered participants.

Hello!
The Northern Ontario Music Festival is back “in-person” and looking forward to welcoming 26 ensembles for three fabulous days of music-making and learning, on March 29, 30 & 31, 2023.

Our impressive roster of adjudicators this year will include:

🎵“Believe in the healing power of music!”🎵

Long & McQuade (Sudbury) have always believed in the healing power of music and have made it a priority for their holiday fundraising to donate to local causes. Each store chooses the organization they wish to work with, and NEO Kids has been their number one choice since the time they opened their Sudbury store. Keeping donations local is a no-brainer for them, as they believe that seeing a quiet room with lights, music, and cozy chairs for people to relax in is what music therapy is about.

This year was their 7th year donating locally and 16th year donating nationally. As a fun way to give back, they ran a “pay a dollar, and you can squeeze a rubber chicken” campaign and partnered with local bars and theater groups, generating a total of $1075!

We know you and your musicians are working hard to rebuild their skills and your programs in the “aftermath of CoVid”. It’s the perfect time to gather with others who are facing similar challenges (and those little victories too, of course!) Whatever your stage of development and readiness, there’s always something to give you inspiration when you gather with “like-minded” people. Our expert adjudicators “know where you’re coming from” and will surely get your group going with fresh ideas and approaches.
