He has been an investment banker in London and New York. He started and exited a health tech startup. Today he runs a health research and advisory firm. The guest on the show today is who poses a very simple question - When two people become parents, why is it that only one has to pay the price? To answer this question, he started a parental well being company called Laado. His work at Laado serves multiple stakeholders - mothers & fathers in 0-2 years journey of their parenthood, doctors (gynecologists and pediatricians) and corporates who want to create equitable workplaces for all employees. In a candid conversation with Mridvika, Aaditya shares:

💡 Less than 1% organizations in India offer paternity leave.

💡 More than 65% of men take less than 1 week paternity leave irrespective of what their employers offer.

💡 1 out of 6 dads have taken any leave at all!

💡 Post partum anxiety affects men as well.

💡 How men can share the emotional load and reduce the double bind that women are stuck in.

He often thinks why and how men are almost always left wondering about the secret lives of women. From never seeing to understanding the excruciating pain women can experience during their , from never having to fetch a glass of water for himself to now being the primary in the house - the guest on our show today, Ajit Bhaskar () is not a norm, but an exception. A research scientist by profession and an avid runner & cook by passion, he’s the primary parent to their son. He and his wife Nandini are proud adoptive parents and he wears the badge of being the softer parent on his sleeve without a moment of hesitation. In the conversation today with Mridvika, you will hear him share:

💡 What does it mean to move from conventional to conscious parenting.

💡 How important it is to put yourself in the shoes of your partner to understand why and what they must feel everyday.

💡 How critical it is for men to stand up for the rights of women's reproductive choices.

💡 How important it is for kids, both boys and girls to see their parents constantly challenge heternormative gender norms.

💡 How modern parenting stands on the shoulders of thankless chores that are picked up by many faceless heroes.

This conversation with Ajit is probably representative of stories of several men out there, who developed a sense of rationality and empathy towards the other gender much later in life. His humility to credit his wife Nandini in opening his mind and expanding his worldview is so so refreshing.

And the wait is over...tune into Just an Ordinary Mom to listen to the Episode 1 of Season 2 where we don't speak to mothers and women, instead we speak to men.

He recalls growing up in both scarcity and abundance. Scarcity of his father’s presence as a young boy and abundance of his parent’s love & care for each other. He empathized with his father’s struggles only when he was himself diagnosed with the same mental health condition that his father grappled with for most of his adult life.

The guest on the show today is Daniel Lobo, a very dear friend, an amazing father to 4 yr old Nia and an incredible life partner to his wife Shrutika. Dan talks about:

💡 what it felt to step down from being the provider in the family to letting his wife be the showrunner.

💡 designing his life to fit in the excruciatingly painful demands of his mental health condition, his own quest for finding purpose in the career he wanted to pursue, his deep desire to be the primary parent in their daughters life and his strong intent to support others who find themselves in deep dark tunnel waiting to be rescued.

💡 shares how hard pandemic parenting was for him and his wife.

💚 Hearing a man say that he completely surrenders into the wisdom of his partner was a heartening and refreshing thing to hear.

Through this conversation, he’s shown how beautiful it can be for men to be vulnerable and express themselves every so often. Tune into Just an Ordinary Mom to hear his story.

She has witnessed her grandmother and mother take reins almost overnight of a cement business that her grandfather left behind. She’s never been afraid to take the road less traveled and explore non-traditional career trajectories. The guest on our show today is Neha Inamdar, who is the Director of Data Science & Analytics at Fresh Gravity. From a successful and a high flying career in management consulting (at KPMG US, Deloitte US) to finding gratification working at non-profits (Teach For India, Teach For All), from living and working in the US to finding her home in Pune, she’s not the norm, but an exception. While these rich experiences were fuelling her creativity and ambition, motherhood and marriage were pushing her to challenge societal norms.

In the conversation today,

💡 She talks about surviving engineering college in India to experiencing art, drama and theatre while pursuing post grad in the US at Kelley School of Business MS in Information Systems (MSIS)

💡 She talks about the very fine balance of reverence and "how-can-we-take-orders-from-a-woman" conundrum that her male colleagues in consulting were trying to find while working with her.

💡 She truthfully and very passionately unglorifies the pain women go through childbirth that they are expected to bear nonchalantly, all in the service of a child.

💡 She shares about her motivations and tactical tips of embarking on cross country trips with her son since the time he was 6 months old.

💡 She honestly talks about the expectations life partner's have from each other especially after having kids and how she's learning the art of letting go.

💡 Being a staunch believer of alternative education philosophy and professes exploration of ideas from a very young age, she narrates how her son learns about the concept of farm to table as a 6 yr old.

She’s not afraid to recall one of the most painful memories from her childhood of being bullied as a kindergartner. She has seen male allyship in action way before the term was even coined, watching her dad support her mom’s entrepreneurial pursuit. As a pre-teen she made trips to newspaper mandi’s at 4 am to negotiate pamphlet prices with the vendors. The guest on our show today is Nischala Agnihotri (Product Marketer at Insightly Analytics) who loves to call herself a Story Scientist. She’s a product marketer by profession and a content writer by passion. In the conversation today with Mridvika Raisinghani, she talks about:

💡 The highs and the lows of being a freelancer. She started her content career when freelancing was not a cool thing to do, when work from home was unheard of, when side hustles were not the fad, and when content was not considered the king. She shares the struggles of explaining about the seriousness of her job to her own family before she had to do it for anyone else. A strong believer in the gig economy, she does not hesitate in calling out the not so fun parts of being a gig worker.

💡 She found strength to create her own unique motherhood journey because of the comforting words from her mother in law who reminded her that as much as everyone around will keep reminding you of your first born, you have to remind yourself that you’ve become a mother for the first time too.

💡 She talks about how giving up a job has never been an option for her because she believes in sharing the financial responsibility equally - from paying the loan EMIs to providing for her children's needs.

💡 She shares an incident from her last company, where the CEO of the company did not hesitate to give her the job despite knowing that she was pregnant with her second child. Kudos to such leadership, we need more CEOs like that.

Born to a punjabi mother and a Tamilian dad, it was both fun and challenging to dabble between two cultures that could not be more different from each other. She fit in neither but she was both, she spoke neither languages, but people assumed she spoke both. In 7th grade she knew that she wanted to be a clinical psychologist. She defied norms in the decade when neither did she have any role models to look up to nor did she know what career path she would be on.

The guest on the show today is Veena Hari, who talks about her career as a practitioner of Clinical Psychology. She’s worked across a breadth of issues like child sexual abuse, to maternal reproductive & mental health to postpartum anxiety & depression to running a support group for adults debating to remain childfree or not. She is the CEO and Founder of Bhavati Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides accessible mental health services including awareness sessions, training, one-on-one counseling and sharing circles on the issues around reproductive mental health. In the episode today Veena:

💡 challenges the most commonly spread or misunderstood sentiment around motherhood, which is that women are biologically wired with maternal instincts.

💡 explains the type of mental health challenges that can show up postpartum and how one can be aware of the triggers.

💡 shares how Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) respond to same universe around them differently

💡 Her simple and yet very powerful advice is that if you are experiencing more bad days than good, you need to get help!

“My career has been a series of "foolishly brave moves' and when I look back, I wouldn't have it any other way”. These are the words of our guest today, Arundhati Kumar who is the founder and the creative force behind her sustainable accessories brand StudioBeej

Born to a punjabi father and a bengali mother, she’s taken the calm of her dad and the grit & go-getter spirit of her mum. She is a dreamer, a dancer, a designer but more importantly, an achiever. Arundhati has spent 18 years working across industries as a senior HR professional with various Indian and Global organizations including Taj Hotels, Cerebrus Consultants Pvt. ltd, India, Etisalat UAE, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Deutsche Bank, Condé Nast, before she decided to make a career pivot by launching her own brand.

She lives by the theory of and has created a life she wanted for herself. She candidly shares how she had to fight the inner demons first as she decided to end her marriage before she could get her family to see her point of view.

💡 Her advice of separating the ‘parent’ from the ‘spouse’ in order to successfully raise children in a arrangement is raw, vulnerable and comes straight from heart. Without really saying anything, she is raising a daughter who believes that she can achieve anything and everything. You cannot miss this brutally candid conversation with Arundhati on the latest episode of Just an Ordinary Mom:

Despite growing up in a progressive household where her parents, especially her mother did everything to make sure she received the best in class education & became financially independent, the awareness that “I am a girl” didn’t escape her. She seethed with anger when she was told she can’t do a certain thing because of her gender. Thankfully, her response was not compliance, but defiance. She did things because she was told it was hard for girls to do them. The guest on our show today is Ranganathan , Director of Product Marketing at LinkedIn. In our conversation today, she recalls times when every Indian girl was told what to do and what not to do when they got their . She cringes at the instances of how public spaces for her meant she needed to wear her backpack as an armor on her chest to avoid getting violated. She remembers the times when she saw her mother as a person first beyond the role she played which helped her humanize her parents as people, something she hopes her 7 year old son does too. She talks about how strategically she has invested time and effort to find her tribe and community as she has moved continents and countries. She ponders over the identity crisis people suffer from when they train their minds with the narrative of “I am because of what I do”. If you are looking to find a career coach or a life coach, you cannot miss the part where she talks about the differences between the two and the process of finding meaning & purpose. She dispenses perspective (not advice) on how fence sitters can think about parenthood. She challenges all conventional wisdom that boxes us into what we should be instead of what we want to be. We only realize it much later that our parents were human beings too who were merely playing the role of a mother or a father, struggling to give us their very best. In the conversation today, Aarthi Muralidharan talks fondly about her mother, who was the force beneath her wings, fiercely prodding her to become financially independent. Aarthi’s career of over 18 years at Dell and now at Educational Initiatives would not have been possible without the many contributions of silent heroes who made it all possible for her. Aarthi’s husband shows up in ways that she had not imagined - from taking their daughter to extra curricular classes, to cooking their daughter's favorite meal to managing his calendar when Aarthi’s traveling for work to asking her to take a break when she returns exhausted from work. We definitely need more men like him. Tune into the latest episode of Just an Ordinary Mom to listen to the story of how coming from a humble middle class background, Aarthi has been able to achieve great success in her career, while raising a 9 year old daughter.

"To whom much is given, much is expected", Merlia Shaukath, Founder and CEO of Madhi Foundation lives by this life value that her father instilled in her early on in life. She has never ever been guilt tripped by a man, it’s almost always been the women. In the episode today, Merlia shares that the key to successful parenting for her has been all about figuring out the duller and mundane details of life - the doctor appointments, the play dates, the school pickups and how each day has to be a fresh start for the impending negotiations. Despite the meticulous planning of embracing parenthood, nothing went as per the plan for Merlia and her husband. She used “entrepreneurship” as a respite to deal with perils of a premature delivery, she used “humor” to ward off judgmental stares, she used “assertion” to draw boundaries and used “self-love” to be kind to herself. Listen to the show at Just an Ordinary Mom to learn what according to Merlia is the best investment any woman can make in herself...

In today's episode, Mridvika talks to Mansi Agarwal, Vice President at BYJU'S where she leads their Education For All initiative. In the conversation today she shares her professional journey as the first few sustainability architects in the country to starting her own upskilling company to then working towards the mission of providing access to quality education to all. She shares how a few months of downtime, pre and post pregnancy was enough to make her realize that her happiness lies in being continuously challenged with meaningful work and how giving up work to assume the role of being a full time mother would have been a disastrous choice for not just herself but for everyone around her. We discuss gender roles in the house and how she has to sometimes catch herself to cite a better and more equal example for her daughter. In today's episode, Mridvika () speaks with Rhea Mehta () who is growing the India business for Navya Care, a cancer informatics company incorporated in the US. In the conversation she touches upon a wide variety of topics that range from the career choices she made before and after having kids, to being utterly surprised with how gender distinction plays out in her completely progressive and liberal family. She talks about how she had to define her own unique measure of success and how centering her career around her "why" allows her to show up for work everyday. Despite the place of privilege Rhea comes from where it would be easier to quit work if she ever chose to, she continues to fight for the balance between her own aspirations as a professional, her responsibilities as a mother while being a supportive and available partner to her husband. In today's episode, Mridvika speaks with Neha Madan, who talks about her insecurities and struggles that she had to overcome to make a comeback for the second innings of her career. After a 7 year sabbatical, the come back was far from being easy - her competence & commitment was judged, she was lowballed on salary conversations and was made to feel that she had a lot of catching up to do on her career. She also talks about how she shut out the noise of feeling left behind to prioritize what was important to her in the moment and how she leaned in on her family to get the support that she needed. She candidly shares the journey she traversed from being on the fence about to then using assisted fertility treatment like IVF to have her twin girls. In today's episode, Mridvika speaks with Priyanka Gothi, who is using her decade long marketing experience at Nestlé to now build a human-centric, digital marketing agency for purpose-driven organizations called Taleworthy. In the episode today, she shares how she fought "age-ism" at work places through her social impact enterprise called Wise At Work and helped employers build multigenerational teams. She then talks about how becoming a mother didn't result in her taking a step back, but instead pushed her to lean in and tumble over. She challenges the double standards for mothers and fathers the society has and questions why all the "leaning-in" is expected of mothers? She shares how preserving her identity as a woman has helped her to be a good mother and how it’s super important to raise the bar for what the definition of “good” men in the society looks like. In today's episode Mridvika talks to Shrutika Jadhav who has spent a decade working at the intersection of philanthropy and impact. Shrutika’s vulnerability is the only reason you should listen to this episode. She has shared about her struggles of managing work as a new mother, admitted that not being able to find time for herself and being constantly consumed in the responsibility of child care during lockdown left her feeling inadequate and caused her to burn out completely. Shrutika reflects on how women in business school were expected to take up HR instead of Marketing or Sales and how life would have been different if she hadn't followed the norm. She touches upon the feeling of missing out while being on maternity leave and the constant urge to prove herself to others. She also talks about how her husband’s mental health condition changed her role in their marriage and how she chose to look beyond the illness to help her partner manage his condition. Shrutika is unapologetically ambitious but also knows what to prioritize to build the life she wants for herself.
