Good Day Everyone,

We are excited to announce that the New Mayfield Watertower Construction process is about to begin !
At last nights Board Meeting we awarded the following bids for construction of our new Tower.

Resolution #20
Motion to approve Contract #1, General Construction for water tower project, to James H. Maloy, Inc. in the amount of $333,000.

Resolution #21
Motion to approve Contract #2, Tank Construction for water tower project, to Phoenix Fabricators & Erectors in the amount of $1,571,299

Resolution #22
Motion to approve Contract #3, Electrical Construction for water tower project, to Amaha Electrical in the amount of $184,000

The new tower will be located just off the Town Highway Department access road , just off of Route 30. Our current Watertower is turning 100 years old this year. This has been a long, difficult road and undertaking, but it was essential to get this done. We never let up and kept driving forward regardless of the many obstacles we faced !

I am proud of our team and all of their hard work especially that of my Clerk-Treasurer Terri Brubaker.
I was able to secure a total of $1 Million in grants toward the $2.4 Million expense of the new tower.

The construction of the new tower will begin immediately and we expect this project to be completed at the latest, by the Fall of 2023. The old Tower will be taken down at the latest, by the end of 2025.

A very special thank you to a true longtime friend of Mayfield, Retired Senator Hugh Farley! Thank you Senator for all that you’ve done!

Warm Regards,

Mayor Jamie Ward

Please help spread the word that I’m making a run for the MCS School Board. It only takes a minute to share this post and let people know. I believe that the best way to make an impact is to get involved and not just talk or complain about thing. Most people will tell you that if you meet me once you will not like me! The same people will also tell you that if you get to know me that I have a good heart and will give the shirt off my back to help.

In a week from today you will do one of the most patriotic things you can do, VOTE! I pray that you will vote and take the time to do so. As a Marine I am honored by the power of the VOTE and what it can accomplish. We are in some amazing times and it is not going to be easy. I don’t claim to have all the answers! I do however pledge to listen and work hard to make the difference! I will make myself available to the families of Mayfield School District to help foster a positive learning and work environment.

In the week ahead if you have questions please call me, or message me so that I can answer any questions you might have.

God Bless have a great week and please VOTE!

Congratulations, Lanzi Family for winning the Centennial Business Award!

The Lanzi family are the proud owners of five local restaurants, Lanzi's On The Lake, Lakeside Tavern, Sport Island Pub and Restaurant, Partners Pub and the recently opened Lorenzo’s Southside. “When we were seven years old, we started helping out: mopping floors, peeling potatoes, washing dishes,” says Lou Lanzi. “My parents always said, “A little work will never hurt you.” That simple approach has carried four generations of Lanzi’s to success in the restaurant business; In December 2020, the Lanzi family celebrated the 100th Anniversary of their family-owned restaurant business.
Lorenzo’s Southside is located at 1 Port Jackson Square, Amsterdam, about a block away from where Luigi Lanzi opened the first Lanzi restaurant in 1920 and continued serving patrons until 1985. The Lanzis ran a second Amsterdam-based restaurant, Lorenzo’s, from the early 1950s until 1998. “That was the last time we were in Amsterdam, 1998, so we’re coming back,” said third-generation restauranteur Joe Lanzi, owner of Lorenzo’s Southside.
The new eatery will specialize in Neapolitan pizza and homemade pasta. In preparation for this endeavor, family members traveled to Italy to research popular restaurant dishes. Joe’s three sons, Giuseppe, Giacomo, and Gaetano, went to New York City to learn Neapolitan pizza-making techniques from famed pizza maker Roberto Caporuscio. They also studied under award-winning Neapolitan pizza maker Michele D’ Amelio. “The focus on Neapolitan pizza will set Lorenzo’s Southside apart”, said Gaetano Lanzi. Certified by the Associazione Pizzaioli Napoletani, the restaurant will make 12-inch personal pizzas crafted in a 300-year-old tradition that starts with dough that’s fermented for two days. “Good dough is like fine wine. It takes time,” he explained.

Congratulations, Fuel-n-Food for winning the Barbara V. Spraker Tourism Partner Award!

Fuel-n- Food is a convenience store with gasoline, diesel, and a full-service deli. They sell propane, propane supplies and have a full room dedicated to fishing and ice fishing supplies, depending on the season. Like other general stores, they have a lot of extras, their slogan is “a convenience store with a little more.”
Nancy and Louis Stutzke bought the store in 1996 and added diesel fuel in 1997. That same year started the Fuel-n-Food three-day ice fishing tournament. In 1998 the gasoline tanks were upgraded and, pumps were added. In 2001 new gasoline pumps were installed to include pay at the pump and a canopy above the gas pumps to keep the customers dry. In 2002, they did their biggest expansion, upgrading the store itself, adding new coolers, a walk-in freezer, a kitchen, and a full deli. Not knowing at the time, that was the best move for the business. Finally, in 2009 a major outside upgrade included new tanks, pumps, LED signs, and most important of all, a paved driveway. A few smaller, more technological changes have been made since then, but for the most part, this is how everyone knows and remembers Fuel-n-Food. They have sold Gulf, Citgo, and currently Sunoco fuel. Fuel-n-Food grew from one employee to twenty-four employees throughout this time and met a ton of great people. The store now hosts a big buck contest, a turkey contest, and of course, the three-day ice fishing tournament, which is going on its 24th year.

These are the conditions as of Tuesday night (February 8th, 2022)…
The biggest change since my last lake report is that the water level is down just a little over 4 feet. This has caused a lot of the natural features such as rocks, stumps, and islands to poke up through the ice.

You will notice this most in stump alley. It was fairly flat there, but now the ice has followed the shoreline so there is dips and dives through there. Also a couple holes, (that have dirt under them not open water) and crevasses. Anthony Lanzi has marked most of the big ones with poles and reflectors that show up great at night. Don’t forget to stop up to Sport Island have a GSL juice and thank him for that.

Basically now through stump alley your riding on land with a layer of broken ice over it, slow down through here and you will be fine.

Two other spots that have changed a lot from low water are the area around Sport Island. The Broadalbin side has it’s normal drop off, and the chain of islands that start poking through on the opposite side heading towards Mayfield. And of course the Trap islands are sticking up quite a ways now down by Beacon Island aka Yacht Island. Just slow down in these areas and you will be fine.

REMEMBER IF YOU SEE IT MARK IT on the Send it App.
On The positive side the heaves have settled down a lot.

Also the HRBRRD is only releasing about the same amount that is coming in now, so the lake level has stayed about the same for the last 7 days, and should for the rest of the season.

The least amount of ice is 15″ with some spots up to 22″.

No slush for the snowmobiles plenty of l**e, but wheeled vehicles may find some slush under the snow in spots. Not enough snow to restrict wheeler’s, side X sides, or trucks. So run whatcha brung.

From Batchlerville bridge south for about 2 miles the snow is still drifted like riding a jet-ski, the same is true for the middle of the main lake too.

Other then that, the section from Sinclair Pt. to Turner Rd. is great.

Fishing:
slow, slow, slow a few decent Northerns last week, some small walleye, and no reports of trout, or perch. This may change with lower more stable water conditions.

Tip of the week:
Keep it factory or bring lots of belts!!! The tortoise beats the hare…
