Life of a Disney historian. I had a wonderful time visiting the new Met exhibit in NYC today! The special exhibit combines Walt Disney Animation for the first time with it's French Decorative Arts inspiration.

✨ The highlight of the exhibit? For the first time ever, the original drawing of Disneyland from the Lost Weekend done by Herb Ryman was displayed to the public. I couldn't steal myself away, I almost cried. If you want to learn more about The Lost Weekend, check out my book Fastpass to the Past, Chapter 2-3.

💕 Favorite Quote: "Is it Disney, or is it art?" A question asked when the first animation cell was hung in the met during the 30's.

🖌️ Glaring omission? Nothing about frequent Disney collaborator, Ub Iwerks.

💭 Idea for expansion: Walt Disney's Tiki bird's french origins.

Gangsters, Speakeasies, and Jazz, oh my!

This week on , I head back into the archives to look at the original designs for Disneyland Paris.

Instead of the Victorian facades that harkened back to Walt Disney’s Minnesota hometown, Imagineer Eddie Sotto’s original concept for Main Street USA in Disneyland Paris resembled something different - something exciting. In the place of horse-drawn carriages, he designed an entry sequence filled with the gangsters, policemen, and great American cities that flourished during the jazz age.
