Humanity Is Ready To Bow Down To This Patriarchy-Smashing Monkey Queen

A Japanese macaque, also known as a snow monkey, Yakei is the first female leader of a troop of 677 monkeys who live in the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden.
This female macaque overthrew her own mother to become the leader among the troop’s females and then fought multiple high-ranking males and won.
The New York Times follows the drama behind this new ranking and how it might affect mating season.

B.C. Doctors Can Now Prescribe National Park Pass to Patients Who Need Nature Time

Canada’s national nature prescription program (PaRx) has teamed up with Parks Canada to allow registered heath care professionals to provide a free annual Parks Canada Discovery Pass to patients.
“There’s this huge body of research showing that nature time can improve all kinds of different physical and mental health conditions, from diabetes and heart disease to ADHD and depression” said Dr. Melissa Lem, family physician and PaRx director.
Since beginning the program in November 2020, there have been over 1,000 qualified prescribers registered.

Italian coffee company using solar energy to roast beans

The Italian tech company PuroSole has developed an innovative way to roast coffee beans with renewable energy. Daniele Tommei is one of the cofounders of PuroSole. “It’s the coffee, not the rotating basket or the air in it that we are heating,” he says. “It’s the coffee itself being heated, the sun’s rays hitting coffee beans, heating them and causing the heating of the air surrounding it. “But, essentially, the warmest part of all of this is the bean itself.”

E-mail spam was named after canned meat.

E-mail spam is an unfortunate byproduct of the digital age. It’s the modern equivalent of junk mail that gets delivered to your physical mail box, and nobody – except the people that profit from it – like it. What many people may not know, however, is that spam e-mail is named after canned meat.

Spam, as you may know, is a brand of canned pork that has been in production by the Hormel Foods Corporation since 1937. During World War II, it became a key part of soldiers’ diets due to its versatility and shelf life. After the war, the canned meat product surged in popularity around the world.

Fast-forward to 1970 when a Monty Python sketch famously featured Spam as its focus. In the bit, the word “spam” was repeated time and again, no doubt in reference to its perceived ubiquity. In the early 90s, when the first unsolicited messages started going out in bulk, it reminded one Usenet newsgroup user of the spam skit from Monty Python.

The name stuck, and now, the word “spam” is commonly used to refer to unsolicited communications or performing an action repeatedly.

Google rolls out 6 new features to Android

Google has recently rolled out several new features for Android such as auto-generated narrators for eBooks, Emoji Kitchen on Gboard, labels, and more. However, not all these features will be available to users as some are in Beta and for selected markets only. Here is a list of the six new features available for Android smartphones.

1. Password checkup tool
This tool can prove helpful to users as it checks login credentials saved by the user against compromised passwords that have been in use before. This feature was available to desktop users earlier and now it is coming to Android devices.

2. Message scheduling
Android users can schedule messages by just opening the messaging app. Once the message is typed, the scheduling option can be accessed by long-pressing the send button. Some users spotted this new feature around September last year but it is now officially confirmed by Google. The messaging app also shows suggested timings, however, users have the option to set the date and time as per their preference.

3. Google Maps Dark Mode
The dark mode is available on apps of Google and it is now available to Google Maps. Users can enable Dark Mode by going from Settings to Theme and then selecting the Always in Dark Theme from the options.

4. Hands-free Google Assistant
Well, this feature is not new as hands-free commands for Google Assistant have been around for some time. However, Google has introduced a few new commands to make it more user-friendly. Users can now play music, set alarms, send messages without the need to unlock the phone.

5. Intuitive gestures for TalkBack
TalkBack is a screen reader available on Android developed for users who are blind or have low vision. The reader is now getting a facelift with the introduction of more intuitive gestures, a new menu, and more. Several easy-to-learn multi-finger gestures have been added by Google that will work seamlessly on devices such as Pixel, making it easier for users to interact with the app. Google has also introduced new voice commands along with support for two new languages on the braille keyboard.

6. Custom wallpapers for Android Auto
Google is rolling out a new feature in the form of custom wallpapers. Users can now do away with non-appealing backgrounds on the Android Auto. Google is planning to offer shortcuts on the home screen for tasks such as checking the weather or adjusting the thermostat with the help of Google Assistant.

Hotel Mahali Mzuri, Masai Mara, Kenya

Part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection, Sir Richard Branson's majestic safari camp in the Masai Mara is "just perfect," according to one voter. The seemingly space-age tents somehow rise up out of the landscape and blend in with it simultaneously. Wildlife remains abundant in the surrounding bush — ideal for the twice-daily game drives — and the guides are extremely knowledgeable. One respondent raved about the "excellent service," adding that "the hospitality provided at Mahali Mzuri resembles the name," which means beautiful place in Swahili. Another reader says simply that it's "the best luxurious camp to visit on the African continent."

Audi Preparing A More Focused R8 To Say Farewell To The Iconic V10

The Audi R8 was first released into the wild in 2006, and in that time, it’s grown to become a mature, semi-affordable supercar that continues to offer plenty of thrills.

The current second-generation R8 is a solid piece of machinery, combining performance with useability brilliantly. But one thing that continues to be noticeably absent from its CV is the fact there hasn’t been a hardcore track-focused version.

YouTube was created to be a dating site.

YouTube.com was registered on February 14th, 2005 (Valentine’s day) with the purpose of being a video-dating site. It was designed as a way for people to upload videos of themselves talking about the partner of their dreams.

But after some time when no one was uploading their videos, YouTube changed to allow uploading of any kind of video.

A new method for studying ions around comets in space has been developed.

On November 26, 2021, Sofia Bergman of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) and Ume University successfully defended her doctoral thesis on low-energy ions around comet 67PChuryumov-Gerasimenko. Low-energy ions are notoriously difficult to monitor because their properties are heavily influenced by the spacecraft that observes them. Sofia has devised innovative strategies for accomplishing this. Scientists can examine low-energy ions near comets and in a number of other areas in the Solar System because to her research.

Comets live in an environment that comprises a significant amount of low-energy ions. To comprehend the physical processes occurring around the comet, it is crucial to comprehend the properties of these low-energy ions.

Light Could Have Exploded From A Black Hole Collision.

Astronomers may have seen light from the merger of two black holes for the first time, providing new insights into these enigmatic dark objects.

A supermassive black hole is surrounded by a disk of gas in this artist’s concept.

Two smaller black holes are embedded in this disk, and they may have merged to form a new black hole.

When two black holes spiral around each other and eventually collide, ripples in space and time are created that can be detected by extremely sensitive instruments on Earth.

Because black holes and black hole mergers are completely dark, astronomers cannot see them with telescopes or other light-detecting instruments.

However, theorists have proposed a method for producing a light signal from a black hole merger by causing nearby material to radiate.
