Ukrainian President to Ramaphosa on video-call: “Anyone who helps Russia with a weapon will be an accomplice with all the consequences”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday confirmed that he spoke to President Cyril Ramaphosa during a video-call about the Ukrainian 10-point peace plan and asked Ramaphosa to obey the rules of international law, which might include arresting President Vladimir Putin if he arrives in South Africa. He also warned that “anyone who helps Russia with a weapon will be an accomplice with all the consequences”.
“I spoke to the president of South Africa. I spoke about the Peace Formula, about justice, and the fact that our world should be united by the rules of international law. Anyone who helps the aggressor (Russia) with a weapon will be an accomplice with all the consequences. I called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to join together with other countries, all continents, and Africa to work to implement our Peace Formula,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a Twitter video.
Zelenskyy first announced his peace plan (Peace Formula) at a November summit of the Group of 20 (G20) key economies.
The plan calls for:
Radiation and nuclear safety, focusing on restoring security around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine, which is now Russian-occupied.
Food security, including protecting and ensuring Ukraine’s grain exports to the world’s poorest nations.
Energy security, with a focus on price restrictions on Russian energy resources, as well as aiding Ukraine with restoring its power infrastructure, half of which has been damaged by Russian attacks.
Release of all prisoners and deportees, including war prisoners and children deported to Russia.
Restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity and Russia reaffirming it according to the UN Charter, which Zelenskyy said is “not up to negotiations”.
Withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities, the restoration

Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital dirty, unsafe - Health Ombud
Expectant mothers sleeping on chairs and hospital floors, crumbling infrastructure, management deficiencies, and a paediatric and child health facility with no blood bank, laboratory facility or intensive care unit (ICU).
These are some of the damning findings contained in the report of the Health Ombudsman, Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, who was tasked with investigating allegations against Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital (RMMCH) in Johannesburg.
The investigation follows a complaint lodged by a Member of Parliament's Health Portfolio Committee on 6 April 2022 into allegations of the circumstances relating to the care of expectant mothers at RMMCH.
The probe was also prompted by a video that went viral, which was posted by Patriotic Alliance MMC [Member of the Mayoral Committee] of Health and Social Development, Ashley Sauls, of heavily pregnant women sleeping on chairs and floors in April last year.
Speaking to media in Pretoria on Tuesday, Makgoba said he spent a year investigating complaints and interviewed 34 people at the hospital.
He said “dirty, filthy and unsafe” were some of the common words used to describe the state of the hospital.
“The most striking thing is that this hospital has been neglected for years,” Makgoba said.
According to findings, the hospital’s infrastructure is in shambles, with free-flowing sewage within buildings, and a foul-smelling environment, while its ablution facilities are filthy.
In addition, leaking steam pipes lead to poor heating inside the wards.
Due to overcrowding, according to the report, clinical decisions were made based on what was written on the patient file without assessing the patient thoroughly in antenatal wards.
“The hospital also has security challenges and a shortage of nursing staff,” the Professor revealed.
He said the challenges of overcrowding, lack of staff, and a dire shortage of nurses compromised the he

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is aware of the incident that occurred at Nic Diederichs High School in Krugersdorp on Tuesday, 31 January 2023, where a Grade 10 boy learner allegedly assaulted a Grade 10 girl learner. This incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral, and we vehemently condemn the behaviour that was displayed.
The perpetrator was suspended today on Wednesday, 1 February 2023, through correspondence that was served to his parents. Subsequently, a disciplinary hearing by the school’s Disciplinary Committee is scheduled for 12 February 2023.
Our officials visited the school today to verify circumstances surrounding the incident. Our psycho-social support team has also been deployed to provide counselling and trauma support for the victim.
We strongly condemn any acts of misconduct by learners that dehumanises, demeans and potentially endangers other learners, and ultimately undermines the dignity of our learning institutions. Learner ill-discipline will not be tolerated in our schools.
The Department continues to appeal to parents in assisting to enforce discipline upon their children in and outside the school environment.
“We condemn, in the strongest sense, this despicable behaviour. No one can be allowed to assault anyone in our schools, and we especially condemn any form of gender-based violence in our schools. We are pleased that the perpetrator is suspended and will not be allowed back to our school before necessary rehabilitation,” said Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane.
We will continue to monitor the situation and apply further interventions accordingly.
Alexandra High School pupils suspended over food ruckus
Alexandra High School pupils involved in a lunch time food ruckus at the school, have been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.
This comes after a video went viral on social media displaying the unacceptable behaviour by the pupils at the school on Monday, 26 January 2023.
According to an official report, learners had to queue in the order of their grades to receive lunch.
“The lunch that was being served was uPhuthu and milk, which is the learner’s favourite meal. Given the excitement for the meal of the day, some learners became impatient in the queues. They allegedly began pushing and shoving other learners, causing a ruckus in the queues and disturbing those who were being served.
“Amid this commotion, senior learners reportedly grabbed the pot of food and dragged it away to dish up for themselves. In the process, the food that was meant to benefit other learners was spilled out, and further commotion was incited,” the Gauteng Department of Education said in a statement.
The department said that the main culprits were identified in the morning of Friday, 27 January 2023, using surveillance footage at the school.
These learners have since been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing that is scheduled for today.
Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, said that he is disappointed by the behaviour displayed by the learners who destroyed food meant for learners.
“The School Nutrition Programme plays a vital role in the wellbeing of our learners. As such, it must be treated with respect and remembered as an initiative that is meant to benefit all learners equally,” Chiloane said.
