During my reunion at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico with 5 of my childhood friends that I haven't seen in over 30 years, we decided to go on a couple of excursions. I have to say that this is one of the best experiences of my life.
Not being a 'water' person at all, swimming in a cenote in the middle of a jungle - a natural underground water resevoir - most definitely got me out of my comfort zone.
Even with (or because of) a life jacket, I struggled to keep my body straight. I tried to grab a hold of anything I could to keep myself up. The problem was that we were not allowed to touch anything unless it was underwater, so as not to damage the natural environment. It was quite a workout, but I absolutely loved every minute of it.
I highly recommend RUTA MAYA ECOTOURS if you're looking to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Alex, our tour guide, is highly knowledgable in everything natural within his home country.

What's Hiding in the Jungle? - Tulum, Mexico
We couldn't have picked a better destination for our reunion. I was so happy to be included with five of my childhood friends, some of which I haven't seen in over 30 years.
Staying at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort, we choose to partake in two separate excursions during our stay, with one being a visit to the Mayan Ruins, followed by a swim in a cenote.
What a surprise it was to discover that the excursion took us deep into the jungle. It was an even bigger shock to learn that we wouldn't be provided a boxed lunch, but one from an actual authentic Mexican restaurant... right in the middle of the jungle.
I have to say this all-day excursion is now in my Top 5 list of my all-time coolest experiences.

Anybody who knows me will know that I'm not a water person at all. Boy, did I ever get out of my comfort zone during my girls trip to Mexico.
We went on an excursion that took us into the jungle and into what they call a cenote, which is Spanish for a natural underground reservoir of water in a cave.
Somehow I mustered up the courage to not only walk into this cave, but to be the first one to get in the water and swim.
It was both scary and exhilarating at the same time. What an awesome day we had on this excursion.

During our walk around the ruins, the guide lead us to the highest point, which is where you experience the best views in Tulum.
Standing high above the ocean, this view was stunning... a photographer's or videographer's dream location.
