Git'luuhl'um'hetxwit Response to Enbridge requesting an Emergency Permit Extension from the B.C. Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, George Hayman.
We were notified by the province of this application on February 27, 2023. We were told the window for Indigenous consultation and input ends on March 3, 2023. We issued this response today, on March 1, 2023.
This project would cross Gitxsan land, including the Babine, Skeena, and Kispiox rivers.
Enbridge names the following huwilp as being directly affected: "Geel, Nii Kyap, Gitludahl, Tsa Buk, Gwii Yeehl, Wii Gyet, xGwoimtxw, Wii Mugulsw, Haiwaas, Miluulak, and Delgamuukw."
Enbridge names the following huwilp as having lax'yip in close proximity to the project: "Antgililbix, Wii Gaak, Wii Minosik, Luutkudziiwus, Kliiyem Lax Haa, Gyologyet, Djogaslee, Lelt, Mauus, Yal, Tenim Gyet, Wii Eelast, Giist, Baskyasinhlikit, and Gwininitxw."
Aside from the huwilp listed, there is no doubt that a project of this scale would impact all wilp up and down stream. Everyone has a say in the well-being of our salmon and the many other important species that could be impacted by this decision.
For more details listen to the video, or read the response itself posted in the comments section. If any Gitxsan want to reach out and/or receive a copy and/or template of this response, message this account.

🎥FULL VIDEO. Please check Yinka Dene Apparels #GoFundMe ( https://gofund.me/9af142e2 ) to see if this is something you support. I want to get back into production as I press my original commissioned designs myself and open a store online.
Looking to get some fun designs out to the public and also release some informative street wear shedding light to issues we face as Indigenous peoples. Yinka has fundraisers lined up for two Wet’suwet’en families that had their loved ones taken away due to police violence/neglect. With the success of this go fund me, I’ll be able to release those memorial tees to the public.
I’d like to do this without government grants, investments from the people that will go back to the people through fundraisers makes this so much more meaningful. Thank you for your time. Feel free to share. Thank you to Delee for all the hard work in helping me get this out.

An update and message of gratitude from Hoox'k'i'y of the Git'luuhl'um'hetxwit. A great Hamiyaa for all of your continued support of land back related efforts. Our crew is working hard on many projects, and kind folks chipping in, whether it's through funds or effort, is what makes it all possible. Stay tuned!
Speeches by Don Ryan (Maas Gaak, now holding the name of Hanaamukw) and Herb George (Satsan), in the feast hall following the 1997 Delgamuukw-Gisday'wa decision.
"I look at all the house groups of the Gitxsan. How are we going to take this victory now, how are we going to use it? The court came really close to saying to you - you have absolute victory, you have absolute title, and you have absolute government, your law has prevailed. The court stopped short of that, and we can force that issue, but it doesn't really make sense unless we see all of the house groups take on the responsibility of the laws, and take it forward. You can't sit and wait for the office that we've got in town, you can't sit and wait for the litigation team, you can't sit and wait for the legal team to do that. It has to come from all the house groups that are here today." - Don Ryan

Gitxsan All-Clans Railfest Update - February 3, 2022
An update from Spookw regarding the ongoing legal battle between the Gitxsan and CN Rail.
The recent statement from CN not proceeding with criminal charges may prove to be misleading, and as a result, the Gitxsan prepare to bring the full weight of our unextinguished title and Ayookw (Gitxsan Law) into play.
Delgamuukw, 1993, BC Court of Appeals Victory
We pay our respects to Simoigyet Delgamuukw and Wilps' Delgamuukw of Anspayaxw. Earl's dedication to our culture and way of life has paved the way for many generations of Gitxsan. If not for such giants, we would not be here today. As the younger generations, we will do our best to keep the fire burning and honor the memory of those who showed us the way.
This is a speech by Delgamuukw from June 25th, 1993, following a victory at the BC Court of Appeals. "Our rights still flow, and they will flow forever".
An update regarding the ongoing legal battles with CN Rail and Canada. The Gitxsan position is firm, these are unceded lands and we will continue to push for title. The Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en have never surrendered a single inch of our territories.
Posted @withregram • @bmorinstories Met w Gitxsan Hereditary Chief Spookw, Wolf Clan. Was arrested in 2020 on his own unceded territories (has never been arrested prior) for blocking CN rail w others in solidarity with Wet’suewet’en land defenders. Now a judge wants to press criminal charges & have CN prosecute! Insane
Amidst word that the RCMP C-IRG are gearing up to raid the retaken Coyote Camp on unceded Wet'suwet'en Yintah, new out of town officers wearing thin blue line patches are refusing to disclose their names or home detachments, while arbitrarily pulling over, questioning, and harassing Gitxsan peoples.
These are the poster children of the #bcndp, demonstrating what reconciliation and nation-to-nation dialogue really means.
According to reports received, the RCMP will be devoting resources to "manage" the Gitxsan response while they invade our ally and ancient neighbor.
Gitxsan law, like Wet'suwet'en law, makes it clear, you need the permission of the house to do anything on house territory. The RCMP and CGL have not received the consent of the proper authorities to work and be present on the house territories.

🚨 BREAKING: We have obtained another leaked video. Turns out the RCMP was in close communication with the President of Coastal GasLink prior to the raid on Wet'suwet'en territory.

The ongoing conflict with the Crown has persisted for centuries. Coastal GasLink is the blueprint for replacing our governments with band councils, while undermining our rights and claims to the entirety of our territories. We have witnessed the largest armed theft of land, since the Delgamuukw-Gisday'wa Court cases, over on Wet'suwet'en territory. We cannot stand idly by as Industry, BC, the RCMP, and Canada continue their campaign of extinguishment and forced assimilation. Reconciliation means nothing when our people are forced off their lands at gunpoint. Thank you for your ongoing support for Indigenous freedom and landback.

"To our Allies and Supporters,
This is an urgent fundraising appeal on behalf of the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs and supporters, who in February 2020 answered the call to the people of Canada to uphold the Aboriginal title of the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs whose unceded traditional territories were being encroached upon by the Coastal Gas Link Pipeline. Many Gitxsan felt obligated to act, as for millennia they have been allies of the Wet’suwet’en and had formed a modern alliance in defense of the traditional lands of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en in the Delgamuukw/Gisday Wa court case.
I, Chief Spookw, Norman Stephens of the Lax Gibuu (Wolf) clan and many others set up a blockade on a major highway and railway running through the town of New Hazelton, which is on my unceded traditional territory. Subsequently, we were arrested and identified in the legal case, “Canadian National Railway v. John Doe and Persons Unknown”. This is before the courts with the next appearance on December 6, 2021. The legal costs of this case are outstanding and growing.
We, the Gitxsan land defenders request your monetary support for continued defense of our unceded lands, Aboriginal title and rights.

In February of 2020, three Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs, and nearly a dozen others, were unlawfully removed from our territory on behalf of a private corperation (CN Rail) and charged with 'trespassing' on Gitxsan land.
During the most recent court hearing, it was revealed that 3 (and possibly one more) of the Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en people arrested, will be facing criminal charges, while the rest face civil charges.
We need to fight these charges and the very premise of these injunctions in the courts. Please donate and share widely.

While standing up for Wet'suwet'en relatives and our Gitxsan way of life, RCMP violently arrested a Git'luuhl'um'hetxwit house member. Following the raid on Gidimt'en, the same paramilitary pipeline cops began an occupation of the small town of New Hazelton on Gitxsan Lax'yip. CIRG is here, alongside numerous imported "Indian fighter" police. There is an ongoing standoff on both sides of the rail tracks, with CN rail stuck in the middle. Even with helicopters, assault rifles, violent arrests and overly excessive use of force, the Gitxsan intend to shut the rails until CGL is defeated. This project is a template for stripping any and all Indigenous title to unceded lands, and everything they are doing to the Wet'suwet'en, this government will do to us. CGL, BC, Canada, and the RCMP, are all colluding for the purpose of land theft. They are trying to secure investor certainty across the province, and for that to happen, indigenous laws and governance need to be erased. The fight will not end here, they will never outlast the Gitxsan on sovereign Gitxsan land.

Arrests on Gitxsan Lax'yip at New Hazelton railway
Warning: Police Violence. This is footage of Denzel's arrest and the arrest of a courageous friend who couldn't stand by while a young Gitxsan leader could not breath under a dogpile of imported pipeline mercenary cops. They have been released following a gathering at the New Hazelton detachment. Medical evaluations are underway.
RCMP and CGL invade Gitxsan Lax'yip
Heavily armed RCMP were brought by the busload into Gitxsan territory. They were accompanied by Coastal GasLink personnel and equipment in a joint raid on the Gitxsan All-Clans Railway Blockade. Helicopters and assault rifles, all in the small town of New Hazelton, while children pelted officers with marshmallows from the overpass. There were no arrests made, as our people witnessed from the overpass the absolutely unnecessary show of force by the RCMP. The demands were simple, free the political prisoners taken off the Yintah, send the army of cops back down south to help in relief efforts, and honor the eviction notice given to CGL by the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs. Afterwards, the RCMP proceeded to block CN rail for 4 hours in a standoff with the large crowd of Gitxsan on the overpass. The RCMP units wielding military grade weapons remained on site, and left only after the bulk of the officers were brought back to Houston by Coastal GasLink's buses. The campfires and gathering of Gitxsan remains by the overpass on highway 16, at the end of a very long day.
CGL transporting raid team to Gitxsan territory
Coastal GasLink personnel and equipment is being used to transport rcmp personnel to Gitxsan territory, despite our land being nowhere near the illegal Coastal GasLink right of way. Coastal GasLink and police working hand in hand to bring assault rifles and tactical teams to our home. They are not even trying to hide the collusion and corruption.
