According to a report by LiveMint[1], Pakistan is ready to sell a property connected to its embassy in Washington in order to raise money. The report states that Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves can only cover the next three weeks' worth of import expenses.
ThePrint[2] reported that in August 2020, Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau filed a reference in court against Major General (Retd) Syed Mustafa Anwar, the country’s former ambassador to Indonesia, for illegally selling the embassy building in Jakarta at a ‘throwaway price’.
IBTimes[3] reported that Pakistan has been forced to put a section of its embassy in the US up for sale due to a deepening economic crisis in the country.
News18[4] reported that the Shehbaz Sharif government is exploring the option of selling one such building on R Street NW in Washington DC. The report states that Pakistan has received three bids for a building which once housed the defence section of the country’s embassy in the US capital, with the highest bid being worth $6.8 million.
