[是挫折、不是夭折 A defeat. Not a death.]
懸在窗邊的口紅花有兩束枝條不知何故折斷了，掉到地上。
「這叫夭折？」
「大吉利事！」
「沒用的東西，丟了吧！」
「不！」
「我從不肯妄棄一張紙⋯和枯枝🤣🤣🤣！」
「不好笑！」
「傻人才搭荒。」
葉子沒掉就有生機，插在水中讓它生根吧。日子一天天過去，它每天在窗前曬太陽，但根卻沒怎麼長出來，枝條仍是矮矮的，蜷曲在水杯中。
不生也不死，它在苟延殘喘嗎？
幾個月後的一天，一朵紅花突然在蔓枝間綻放！
原來它一直默默地努力進行我們看不見的光合作用！鮮艷的口紅花告訴你：不過是挫折，生命會回來的，而且更強大、更美麗！
Two stems of a lipstick plant by my window fell off for no reason.
“Is it a death?”
“Now they are of no use. Throw them away.”
“No!”
The stems may have fallen but the leaves had not dropped off yet: life still clung on. I placed the stems in water and put them under the sun. Day after day, no progress at all, I didn’t see the roots growing. The stems were still short and the leaves curled.
A few months passed. Then, just as I was giving up hope, a small red flower blossomed!
I hadn’t been aware of it but, behind the scenes, photosynthesis had been in action all along. This striking red lipstick flower was the lesson, the reward...
It was just a minor defeat. Life has sprouted back, only now stronger and more beautiful.
