Media Release: Sanlam Drakenstein School Derby Champs

In an exciting new partnership, Sanlam and Boland Rugby’s sponsors have embarked on an initiative to expand and extend their support, across the Boland rugby landscape, to the schoolboy rugby community. This forms part of a continued drive within Boland Rugby and its partners to develop rugby across all levels in the union. The inaugural Sanlam Drakenstein School Derby Champs sees the sponsors partnering with schools in the Drakenstein local municipality to enrich and elevate the traditional strong local school rugby derby clashes.
A Total of 8 Drakenstein Municipality schools have been identified to form part of the inaugural competition. The competition format sees four existing school derby clashes used as quarter-finals with the winners of each clash progressing to the semi-final rounds and ultimately a final between the top two schools to crown the Drakenstein School Derby Champs. Each game promises to be a celebration of skill, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of rugby. The partnership aims to provide schools with the resources and support needed to ensure a top-tier sporting experience for all participants and to help develop the rugby programs within the schools.
The Sanlam Drakenstein School Derby Champs will not take away from the existing FNB classic clashes but creates and additional platform and competition for participating schools to showcase their school’s talent in a healthy competitive environment.
The Sanlam Drakenstein School Derby Champs will kick-off with the clash between Charleston Hill and Wellington which is sure to be a fiercely contested match, followed by three more derby clashes to determine the semi-final and play-off positions.
8 Deelnemende skole: Paulus Joubert v Noorder-Paarl, New Orleans v Klein Nederberg, Bergrivier v Weltevrede, Charleston Hill v Wellington Secondary.
