Day's 1 & 2 of The 15th #TCMFF (Turner Classic Movies: TCM Film Fest)
It is such an awe inspiring thing to walk through what many would rightly assume to be Golden Age Shangri-La. The amount to see, share, and experience is inspiring to witness.
Its overwhelming nature extends not just to the many props, panels, and personalities you can see and experience (if you had told me I would get to meet @benmankiewicz and get to thank @leonardmaltin in person for his donated time in Benny land, I would have said you were crazy).
The truly amazing part was and remains watching these treasures with an audience. The thrill of watching White Heat with a crowd kicked off this whole bonanza on my end and it was literally and figuratively the most explosive way to begin this festival journey. In that first two days i found myself opening to the new experiences of Three Godfathers from 1936 (leaps better to me than Fords '48 outing) & The Big House from 1930 (not the greatest prison film, but filled with zest & punch courtesy of a solid script & Wallace Beery). And of course, I couldnt miss a chance to witness Rear Window in 35mm with my pals Hallie, Cris, Marcy, & James.
But the most memorable part of the festival in those opening days had to be along side pal @home2hollywood , Marcy, and Hallie watching THE RETURN OF VITAPHONE. Getting to watch a slew of Vitaphone shorts on film prints accompanied by THE ACTUAL VITAPHONE SOUND DISCS. If there is the definition of getting to witness an amazing magic trick up close, it is watching machines nearly a century old delivering better fidelity & quality than much we can see & hear today.
More on Days 3 & 4 tomorrow, but stay tuned for more stories and photos from this fine weekend dedicated to the flicker of the projector and the stuff that dreams are made of! @tcm @tcmfilmfest #tcmfilmfestival #GoldenAgeOfHollywood #FilmGoing
