ALIA COMMENCES REFORMS IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS IN BENUE

…ENTRUST SECURITY OF COMMUNITIES IN THE HANDS OF TRADITIONAL RULERS

Wednesday, October 11th, 2023

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA), to immediately restore some of the statutory obligations meant for the local government areas in the state.

The move is part of the governor’s steps towards reforming the Local Government system, giving the third tier of government in the state a new lease of life.

The Governor who gave the directive at a meeting with traditional rulers in the state on Tuesday, also said the state government was entrusting the security of communities into the hands of the traditional rulers.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting with the traditional rulers on Wednesday, the Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA) in the state, Dr. Dennis Akura, said the Governor also directed that all monies allocated for imprest and other running costs be released directly to the administrators at the local government levels.

The Special Adviser also disclosed that as part of plans to give the LG system a new lease of life, the DGSAs, who are currently the Acting Chairmen of the LGAs, are to come up with a needs assessment to address issues that need urgent attention at that level of government.

The needs assessments According to Hon. Akura, are to address issues such as office maintenance as well as fixing of drainages and culverts at the different local government areas.

Akura who spoke with newsmen in his office on Wednesday said, "I resumed duty just a few days back and in our first JAC (Joint Account) meeting we introduced certain reforms that were not implemented in the last administrations.”

"We directed DGSAs who are the Acting Chairmen of our various local government councils to revert to the old methods, old policies, old ways of paying and the required imprest and other administrative running costs to staff of LGAs, the HODs, the DCSAs and all other relevant staff of LGs so that they have what is required for them; so that we can hold them accountable for their actions.

"So as it is for now, in the LG system, the HODs are going to collect their correct imprest, not the one that was being paid by past administrations and that will boost their morale so that we will get the best out of them.

"We were able to release some money for administrative running costs so that some other things that are very necessary for the smooth running of the government can be done at that level."

He disclosed further that payment of salaries on the 25th of every month is among the reforms that have been introduced at the local government areas, expressing confidence that things at that level would change for the better under the Alia led administration.

On the security of the state and the outcome of the security meeting between the governor and the traditional rulers, Hon. Akura explained that the governor had implored traditional rulers to up their ante by ensuring that the security situation in their various domains improved for the better, urging them to also serve as promoters of the policies and programmes of the government.

The governor had equally charged the traditional rulers to always be in their domain for their subjects, instead of going around, a situation he said may demean their status before their subjects.

ALIA IS SERIOUS ABOUT SECURING THE STATE UNLIKE THE PDP PROPAGANDA ERA

Saturday, October 7th, 2023

It has to be made abundantly clear that Governor Hyacinth Alia is serious about securing the state and ridding it of criminal elements.

This is also the basis for which he gave marching orders to both security operatives and traditional rulers to ensure that the criminals who attacked and murdered two Katsina-Ala based cattle traders are hounded down and brought to justice.

The allegation by the PDP that it was Fulani herders that were attacked and killed is patently false and a figment of its blurry imagination which is obviously a decoy to mislead the unsuspecting public.

The public is hereby urged to disregard such bland and blanket falsehood as the usual antics of the PDP drawn from its familiar tone.

It bears stating abundantly for the avoidance of doubt that no Fulani herders was among the two traders that were unfortunately killed by criminals.

This is where it behooves the public to ask the PDP to not only stop their Nazi-style propaganda but to always seek to verify facts before setting out to mislead the public with their known fact-free and concocted fiction primarily aimed at stoking the embers of hate and sparking ethnic tensions.

Even during the PDP led administration that was only known for propaganda and eye service, a similar ultimatum was issued by their leader, Samuel Ortom, on the traditional rulers in Ado LGA, after a delegation from Ebonyi State were attacked on their way back from Benue after a peace meeting.

If the party can recall, Ortom had given a seven-day-ultimatum to Traditional rulers in the area, including the District Head of Agila Chiefdom of Ado Local Government Area to within seven days, fish out the killers.

Was the governor at the time biased for issuing such an ultimatum on the traditional rulers? Was the state more secured at the time as it is now?

Governor Alia has opted to lead from the front with a proactive governance approach to the menace of insecurity in the state and as such, the PDP should have some sense of shame and stop gloating over the spectre of insecurity in the state as it was right on its watch that insecurity was mishandled thereby making it to metastasize and spiral into the hydra-headed problem it is at the moment.

It has to be clearly stated that what happened at Nyihemba was purely a criminal act and the perpetrators must be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

It is therefore mischievous for the PDP to conflate issues and cast the incident as though it was an assault targeted at cattle traders.

Does the PDP therefore imply that since Benue people are being killed on their farms and villages, reprisal attacks are now okay and anybody including travellers and innocent citizens be indiscriminately attacked and killed just for passing through or doing business in the state?

There should be a limit to propaganda, and Alia's government will not play politics with the lives of Benue people.

The state cannot be allowed to descend into a state of anarchy where impunity and lawlessness reign supreme. The recent past where everything goes in Benue is over, and over for good.

Let it be known to all that Governor Alia will not surrender the state to criminal gangs, and he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Benue enjoys maximum security.

The PDP should not encourage and cheer up some bad eggs to resort to the same criminal activities the Alia led administration is fighting to put a stop to in the state. The State government will not shield them because they are indigenes of the state. Every form of crime committed in the state will be treated with the same tenacity

A warning is hereby sounded to all criminal gangs to leave the shores of the state before it is too late as they will be mopped up soon.

Controversies Surrounding A Tiv Man Offering His Wive to His Guest 😭😭😭
Absolutely NO. If an Agama lizard use to prevents other males from mating with the female within its territory.
Imagine what a Tiv man can do.......hospitality has limit, Hospitality, Not Weakness.

By Lubem Terkula d Dragon
The Tiv people of Benue state have one of the best cultural beliefs in the world. They are so hospitable that regard strangers as gods, and in some cases, protect their visitors with their lives. Their kindness to strangers is exceptional. But unfortunately, this kindness was seen as weakness and taken for granted by many.

The primary occupation of the Tiv people is farming and the strength with which they farm is mysterious. A typical Tiv man will cultivate 100hectares of farmland with the help of his family, using primitive farm tools. That’s why in the olden days, a Tiv man will marry up to Six wives, and in order to produce children that would give him a helping hand in the farm. A Tiv man cherishes his family dearly, and could protect them with his life because his life and wealth depends on them. Gbango yams gained lot of popularity and drew attention of traders who came to buy and transport the yams to other places in Nigeria.

The headquarters of production which has the highest concentration of the Tiv people, before the eventual raid, was Zaki Biam. Notable traders such as Alh Musa, Sako and Okafor were among the first to come to Zaki-Biam.
Alh Musa was a magician and a trader who came from the north, he had a bird which goes before him during journeys to see whether the area was less dangerous. It was a “gossip bird”. What became the greatest ever fallacy in Benue, started when Umoru came to Zaki-Biam to buy gbango yams.

Alh Musa was received by Terkaa, the man regarded as the “king of yams” in Zaki-Biam.
Terkaa had five wives and 11 children. The fifth wife, Torkwase, was newly married and had no child. Alh Musa was to spend the night in Terkaa’s home and then go to buy yams in the market square the following day. Being a Tiv man, Terkaa built houses for each of his wives. It was in form of round huts of thatch houses.
Alh Musa was given pounded yam and smoked fish that night. Terkaa instructed Torkwase to make the wooden bed for Alh Musa to sleep as strangers were allowed to sleep in the beds while the home owners sleep either outside the room or on the floor.

Terkaa told Alh Musa to sleep in Torkwase’s round house since Torkwase has space as she’s got no child. When Terkaa and his children left to farm”, Alh Musa went to Torkwase’s room and slept with her.
Alh Musa thought Terkaa offered his wife to him. For weeks, during his stay in Zaki-Biam, Alh Musa was having s*x with Torkwase who never told her husband since she never got such attention from her husband. She was enjoying s*x with Alh Musa, because he might have used “burantshi” during s*x with her.

Alh Musa told Sako and Okafor, the other traders, about his free gift from Terkaa and told them to try their luck. Sako and Okafor were successful, undermining the Tiv man’s kindness. Alh Musa got back to the North and told his people the news of the Tiv man’s kind gesture with Sako and Okafor doing the same. As a result, lots of traders flock to their lands to do business in order to experience the “kind gesture”. This was unknown to the Tiv people.

One way or the other, the king of the Tiv (Tor Tiv) stumbled on this development. The Tiv people are believed to have migrated from Congo to Nigeria, and they are scattered within the North of Nigeria, from Benue to Plateau to Adamawa to Taraba state. So the Tor Tiv’s assignment was to identify them and incorporate them under one “umbrella”. It was on his journey to one of the local governments in plateau state that the Tor Tiv learnt that traders coming into his land were sleeping with his women.

The king came home and summoned a meeting. Wives were called and they confessed to have been sleeping with the traders. The men were furious. After much deliberation, resolutions were reached. No man should sit close or touch another man’s wife without permission, and the husband is allowed to kill the defaulter. They feel killing the traders who perpetrated those shameful acts would send strong warnings to other visitors who planned to come to their land- a decision that would come to haunt them. Alh Musa “gossip bird’’ had already told him the plan on ground and he never went back to TIV land again.

His friends, Sako and Okafor were already victims of the new law, they were killed. Terkaa went about killing people and claiming their lands which the Tiv people valued very much. Terkaa killed Terkimbi, a graduate that was sponsored by the villagers to read medicine in American. Torkwase got pregnant and was having problems delivering her baby. Terkimbi who just returned from overseas was called upon to salvage the situation. Terkaa came from the farm and saw Terkimbi assisting his wife in labour and without asking questions, he struck Terkimbi with his cutlass.

Also, the Tor Tiv found out that many women were not receiving adequate attention from their husbands. So he gave directive that if any man can’t satisfy all his wives that man should marry few wives. Also, the Tor Tiv ordered every Tiv man to build extra houses for their visitors.

Because “mad farmer’’ still lives among us… and you may loose your life. Any man that does not satisfy his wife is an offender and will be banished. Immediately the villagers agreed to these terms, heavy rains fell. Everything came to normal, crops and animals began to multiply. The Tiv man’s pride was restored. The divine kindness shown by TIV people to strangers was reduced. However, Tiv people still worship strangers till today. This is the reason why most TIV men marry one wife so that they could satisfy them s*xually. Also, most Tiv homes have extra rooms for visitors/strangers.

Happy weekend, weekend a doo 🙏

04/09/2023

FOR YOUR INFORMATION, Russia has now put its most powerful and dreadful Sarmat Intercontinental Ballistic missiles on standby, ready for combat.

SARMAT Intercontinental ballistic missile popularly known and referred to as “Satan 2” in the west, is capable of carrying at least 10 nuclear warheads. This is the much talked about missile that can reach virtually any state in the U.S. and is said to have the capacity to almost sink all of New York City or Texas in minutes. It is currently the most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile in the world. This is verifiable. And now, Russia has been provoked enough to actually activate and put these destroyers on standby. So what happened?

The truth is, they’re losing big in AFRICA, they don’t see any serious respite in the nearest future and they know Russia is largely to blame for their losses on the continent, especially in the Sahel region…and to make matters worse, the much talked about Ukrainian counteroffensive isn’t going as planned. Even Ukrainians themselves have admitted this fact. That’s why Ukrainians are starting to almost solely rely on Drone attacks on sensitive Russian locations inside Russia/Moscow.

In the last few days alone, drone attacks in Russia have become so daring that if care is not taken, more sensitive, unbearable red lines could be crossed. In fact, in one of the recent drone attacks, Russians even believe the drone attacks may have originated from Estonia, a former soviet country now a NATO member state. And as it stands, if a NATO member state is confirmed to have allowed drone strikes on Russia from its territory, that’s a declaration of war on Russia by all of NATO and the U.S. and Russia has made it clear that it’s response to a NATO/western attack on its territory will be nuclear. Period! They know this, but they keep crossing the so called Russian “red lines.” Don’t forget the F-16 jets that Russia forbade them to send to Ukraine. Today, F-16s are heading to Ukraine. So, whatever makes Russia mad and brings it into a direct conflict with NATO/the west is welcomed. This is the plan.

At least, if ECOWAS isn’t acting in AFRICA, if their military is caged and can’t do anything at the moment on the continent, the delays and inactivity will wear them out and eventually weaken their resolve, implying their loss on the continent is cast on the stone. So, the best thing is to start something on the Russian axis so a nuclear war is activated, which ripple effect eventually trickles down to AFRICA and pretty much everywhere on earth - and then they can easily seize the opportunity to descend on AFRICA and attempt a military recolonization exercise. Sadly, they can’t read the handwriting on the wall - whether a nuclear war breaks out or not, Africa’s freedom in this season is not negotiable. The people are more ready than the colonial west is willing to admit. For mother AFRICA, it’s truly “Freedom-O-Clock!” And I don’t see anything or anyone changing this.

PRESIDENT TINUBU SET TO ATTEND G-20 SUMMIT IN INDIA WITH INVESTMENT ATTRACTION TOPPING NIGERIA'S AGENDA

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday to attend the G-20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, India, on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President will participate in and deliver keynote addresses at both the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference.

The CEO Roundtable will be attended by leading industrialists in the Indian private sector, Nigerian industrialists, as well as senior government officials from both countries.

The President aims to leverage this platform to attract global capital and promote increased foreign direct investments in key labour-intensive sectors of Nigeria's economy for job creation and revenue expansion.

Moreover, he will use this opportunity to highlight Nigeria's attractiveness as an investment destination, specifically outlining his cross-sectoral reform plan as encapsulated by the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Given the President's renowned experience in attracting investment to Lagos State, leading industrialists have sought separate private engagements with him at the summit.

The President's itinerary will also feature bilateral meetings with a cross-section of world leaders from four different continents, representing both G-20 and non–G20 countries.

These engagements are geared towards strengthening bilateral economic, trade, and investment partnerships for mutual benefit.

At the G20 Summit, the Nigerian leader is expected to share Nigeria's perspective on the theme, "One Earth-One Family-One Future," which speaks to the global unity required to address the challenges facing humanity and the planet.

With its collective contribution of up to 80% of global GDP, 75% of international trade, and housing 60% of the world's population, the G-20 constitutes a significant economic power bloc of socio-economic opportunity and geo-political stability.

While Nigeria’s membership of the G-20 is desirable, the government has embarked on wide-ranging consultations with a view to ascertaining the benefits and risks of membership.

This is consistent with the desire of the President to democratize foreign policy and articulate policy formulation and implementation through a Whole-of-Society and a Whole-of-Government approach that achieves the nation’s long-term strategic objectives.

Once consultations are concluded, the government will decide whether or not to apply to join as appropriate. The participation of President Tinubu at the G-20 Summit in India is, in part, in furtherance of this objective.

Accompanying President Tinubu on the mission are the following members of his cabinet: Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy; and Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

President Tinubu will return to Nigeria immediately following the conclusion of the Summit.
