December 7, 1941—a day that remains indelibly etched in history by the harrowing announcement that shook our nation to its core and reverberated across the globe, "Air raid on Pearl Harbor. This is no drill."

Within two hours, thousands were killed or wounded, 21 U.S. Pacific Fleet ships lay sunk or damaged, and 188 aircrafts were destroyed. On this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we pay tribute to the 2,403 service members and civilians who lost their lives, the 1,178 wounded, and the countless families changed forever.

Despite the devastation, Americans rallied.

From this wreckage emerged an unyielding spirit—a commitment not just to defend American values but to champion democracy universally. Pearl Harbor wasn't just a turning point; it sparked a resolute determination, unifying Americans for a common goal: safeguarding the essence of freedom and democracy worldwide.

It wasn't solely an attack on a fleet or a country—it assaulted the very essence of freedom and democracy everywhere. Out of this tragedy came triumph—a victory against fascism and the birth of global alliances rooted in liberty and cooperation. Their resolve epitomizes our nation's unwavering resilience, our innate ability to rise stronger from adversity.

Today, history tests our resolve once more. Faced with challenges, it's incumbent upon ALL of us to ensure their legacy endures. Let's honor their legacy by actively defending democracy—safeguarding free and fair elections, rejecting right-wing populism, engaging in our civic duties, ensuring no one is above the law, and demanding freedom and justice for ALL (and not just for some).
