Venus and the Triply Ultraviolet Sun

Explanation: This was a very unusual type of solar eclipse. Typically, it is the Earth's Moon that eclipses the Sun. In 2012, though, the planet Venus took a turn. Like a solar eclipse by the Moon, the phase of Venus became a continually thinner crescent as Venus became increasingly better aligned with the Sun. Eventually the alignment became perfect and the phase of Venus dropped to zero. The dark spot of Venus crossed our parent star. The situation could technically be labeled a Venusian annular eclipse with an extraordinarily large ring of fire. Pictured here during the occultation, the Sun was imaged in three colors of ultraviolet light by the Earth-orbiting Solar Dynamics Observatory, with the dark region toward the right corresponding to a coronal hole. Hours later, as Venus continued in its orbit, a slight crescent phase appeared again. The next Venusian transit across the Sun will occur in 2117.

We spy with our little eyes… landing gear!

During the 's 26th flight, it captured images of the entry, descent, and landing (EDL) gear the rover used to safely land on the surface of the . Engineers working on the program asked whether could provide a closer look.

This image of Perseverance rover backshell (left of center), supersonic parachute (far right), and associated debris was collected from an altitude of 26 feet (8 meters) by the agency's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter during its 26th flight on Mars on April 19, 2022.

During the Feb. 18, 2021, landing of Perseverance, the parachute and backshell were jettisoned at about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) altitude. The parachute and backshell continued to descend and impacted the ground at approximately 78 mph (126 kph). Engineers working on the Mars Sample Return program requested images be taken from an aerial perspective of the components because they may provide insight into the components' performance during the rover's entry, descent, and landing.

Amazing pictures of earth and the nightsky from the ISS! Which one is your favorite 1-7?🌎🌌

The ISS orbits Earth every 90 minutes. So, instead of receiving 12 hours of light followed by 12 hours of dark, astronauts experience 45 minutes of light followed by 45 minutes of dark. That's 16 sunrises and sunsets each day!

Storms in different Solar System's Planets.

1. Our Earth.

2. On Mars dust storms occur, they are of three types, local, regional and even global (they envelop the whole planet) that last even days or weeks reaching heights of up to 80 km ... but they are not powerful, the winds blow no longer of 100 km/h.

3. On Jupiter colossal hurricanes and storms are commonplace !!! The largest and famous is the" Great Red Spot"an anticyclonic storm that has lasted for at least 300 years and is 300 km deep, (not so much since the Jupiter clouds reach up to 3,000 km) and with winds up to 400km/h. During the observations we have seen that it has reduced in size from 41,000 km to just over 16,100, it is however as large as the entire Planet Earth.

4. And now let's move on to Neptune... it is undoubtedly the windiest and most turbulent of all the Solar System with winds blowing up to 2100km/h. There are huge hurricanes up to 6,000 km in diameter (one is the Large Dark Spot).

An alien invasion? Season five of Stranger Things? A portal to the timespace continuum?

Residents in the Australian town of Mildura in northern Victoria were left pleasantly dumbfounded when the night sky was set ablaze with an eerie pink glow.

"It was very bizarre," said Tammy Szumowski.

"I was on the phone to my mum, and my dad was saying the world was
ending.'

But the explanation was far more mundane. Pharmaceutical company Cann Group confirmed the lights were coming from its local medicinal cannabis facility, where the blackout blinds had been left open.

A Whale of an Aurora over Swedish Forest

Image Credit & Copyright: Göran Strand

Explanation: What's that in the sky? An aurora. A large coronal mass ejection occurred on our Sun earlier this month, throwing a cloud of fast-moving electrons, protons, and ions toward the Earth. Part of this cloud impacted our Earth's magnetosphere and, bolstered by a sudden gap, resulted in spectacular auroras being seen at some high northern latitudes. Featured here is a particularly photogenic auroral corona captured above a forest in Sweden from a scenic perch overlooking the city of Östersund. To some, this shimmering green glow of recombining atmospheric oxygen might appear like a large whale, but feel free to share what it looks like to you. The unusually quiet Sun of the past few years has now passed. As our Sun now approaches a solar maximum in its 11-year solar magnetic cycle, dramatic auroras like this are sure to continue.

Moonset! 🌙 Caption this Image 😍

A crescent Moon is about to sink under the western horizon in this sea and night skyscape. So close to moonset, the moonlight is reddened and dimmed by the low, long line-of-sight across the Atlantic. But near the center of the frame Venus still shines brightly, its light reflected in calm ocean waters. The celestial beacon above the brilliant evening star is bright planet Jupiter.

Saturn's north polar vortex compared to the USA!🪐

The image of Saturn's north polar hexagon is taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft on November 27, 2012

Saturn is about 75 thousand miles (120,000 km) in diameter and is almost ten times the diameter of Earth. About 764 Earths could fit inside Saturn.

China, South and North Korea at Night! Who knows the capitals of these countries?🌏👀

North Korea is almost completely dark compared to neighbouring South Korea and China when looked at from the International Space Station at night. The darkened land appears as if it were a patch of water joining the Yellow Sea to the Sea of Japan.

While the surrounding countries of South Korea and China shine brightly at night, North Korea shuts down. The effect happens because North Korea's supply of electricity is too small to keep shining through the night. In the mid-1990s, the Soviet Union cut off the country's energy supply entirely.

An artist's impression of unstoppable monster galaxy, COSMOS-AzTEC-1. Rate this from 1-10!🤩

A gigantic galaxy 12.4 billion light years from Earth is forming stars at 1000 times the rate of the Milky Way and is, astronomers say, an unstoppable monster. Called, with appropriate flair, COSMOS-AzTEC-1, the galaxy is of a type thought to be ancestors of the massive elliptical galaxies that dot the universe.

It was first recorded in 2007 by the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii.
Now, however, a team of scientists led by Ken-ichi Tadaki of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan has used the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA) in Chile to construct a highly detailed “molecular map” of the monster.

The Moon compared to earth! Who can identify the island's and countries on the 2nd picture?🌎🌔

By - “Using some of my own pictures with satellite imagery, I created a few images to hopefully help you visualize the scale.

1st, here's how the moon would look resting on Brazil. Hopefully this never happens in real life, I have a feeling it would be catastrophic.

2nd, various island countries placed on the surface to scale, and my own country in the night side. Can you identify them all?

3rd, the tallest manmade structure if it were built next to the central peak of Tycho Crater. These craters are mind-bogglingly huge, and would swallow entire cities, states, or even some countries. When I was a kid I visualized them as being something I could easily walk across. Not quite.”

Comment 🙌 if you read the caption!
