CALL OUT FOR PARTICIPANTS

We are delighted to announce that we will be taking part in Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival later this year. As part of our project we are looking for people who lived on the island through the 1950s-70s to recount their experiences in a video interview. We are seeking people of all communities and all views in order to paint a complete picture of the island at that time.

We are particularly interested in speaking to older individuals who haven’t had a chance to have their story told before. For example, you could help us to interview your parent, grandparent, uncle or aunt. Interviews can take place in English, Greek or Turkish.

For more information or if you would like to to take part, please contact us here or via our email address, [email protected]

24th April 2021 Nicosia, Cyprus: the only divided capital city in the world.

In the lead up to informal talks in Geneva, thousands of Cypriots demonstrated to show their support for a United Federal Cyprus

Checkpoints have been closed for over a year due to COVID-19 concerns, preventing people crossing between the two parts of the island. Despite this, thousands of Cypriots living on both sides of Nicosia met in each of their halves of the city to show their support for a United Federal Cyprus amidst upcoming talks in Geneva. We filmed the demonstrations taking place on both sides of Nicosia and spoke to Cypriots living in the north of the island about what these demonstrations meant to them.

Cyprus crossings have been stopped for over a year due to Coronavirus concerns and Kıbrıs Havaları Derneği / Σύνδεσμος Κυπριακού Τραγουδιού / Cyprus Songs haven't been able sing their songs for 14 months. Even with barbed wires in between, they sang their songs between Yigitler Bastion and the Paphos Gate.
